Replying To anotheralias:  "Here's a question. Does ( or should) club performances be a consideration for All Star selection. I honestly dont know.
Paudie Clifford , for example, did not do enough for Kerry in 2023 to deserve one, but when you add in his performances for Fossa and East Kerry he did.
Similarly if you were to make a solid case for Sean Kelly you would have to consider his Moycullen performances , as to be honest, he just didnt do quite enough for Galway to justify solely on that basis."
How could performances for Fossa in junior and intermediate club competitions have any bearing on an All-Star? Corofin players have won senior club All-Irelands and it hasn't had any impact on their eligibility for an All-Star.

Replying To TheBishop:  "Dublin is the only county who don't complain about their forwards, in Walsh, Comer & Finnerty Galway have the forwards to win the All Ireland. I think Galway's best 15 is every bit as good as Dublin's & Kerry's in term of talent, issue in 2022 was the lack of impact from the bench which I'd like to think has now improved.

Galway should and have to do well in this years championship if injuries don't take its toll like last year so there's pressure on Joyce. This is a very gifted Galway panel which is full of All Stars and those who have the quality to win them ."
Walsh didn't show up for Galway in 2023. That's not harsh, just a fair hurler on the ditch reading of it. Couldn't even muster a show v Sligo in Castlebar. What he brings, at his best, is irreplaceable in that attack too, so he was sorely missed by Galway all season of 2023. There could be many differences between Walsh and Finnerty in footballing terms, but the most significant one for me is that Finnerty won't scare intercounty defenders for pace, the way Walsh can when in the mood.

Shane had a poor season in 2023 no doubt.
Kilmacud going on another run won't help him rediscover his best form either.
I've watched a few Kilmacud games & he has been up and down for them.
Really hope he can get back to his best for next season.

I don't think I'd have Finnerty in that bracket. Comer and Walsh are the two clear stand out forwards for Galway but keeping them fit and in form is troublesome and how often has both played well in the same game? Kerry have three All Ireland winning forwards in the Cliffords and O'Shea and the Dubs have many forwards including Colm Basquel who stepped up big time this year. That's the difference and the best hope for Galway to reach All Ireland final in 2024 is to avoid Kerry,Dublin in Quarter and semi final.

Ive almost no interest in the all stars, id personally take a junior c winners medal over one of them, but it'd be worth checking out the criteria assuming there is any.
I would have imagined that it specifies intercounty performances.

Sure he could be an all star wing back either. Gleeson Silke Kelly Molloy McDaid, Daly, McHugh, Heaney, Tierney, Cooke, Walsh, Sweeney, Finnerty, Comer, Conroy

Anyone who hasn't got Dylan McHugh in their Galway team needs their head testing, a serious footballer capable of winning All Stars.

I forgot them to be honest but not sure where both would fit in. Hernon was one of our best this season, Daly has to play, McGrath again was one of our best this year and I think Kelly and Silke get on every team in Ireland

Hernon was in the top 3 against Armagh, Westmeath and Mayo last summer

I agree. I forgot him. I'm a big fan. There is serious competition among the defenders to start.
I don't think Glynn will start which sounds mad given he was last years young footballer of the year. L Silie, Kelly, McGrath, Hernon and Daly have to start on recent form county and club

If everybody makes themselves available and we are injury free we will have a serious set of players for 2024.

That will be Joyce preferred starting 15 when all are available for selection and I have Conroy/Maher because Conroy was first choice and will turn 35 next year, Maher looks to be his replacement.

Anyone planning London trip?

Last time out there was a big Galway gig at the Claddagh Ring pub. GBFM there etc. Great craic.

Is there anything planned this year? Hoping to tie down the logistics and book it as a Christmas present.

Yes, planning to head over to Ruislip for 6th April. It should be great craic. It'd be great to get a big Galway following heading over there and show the lads some real support. I think Galway are going to have a serious crack at the AI this year. The time is now and despite what some detractors will say, I've little doubt we've the squad to go after it like dogs. London is where it starts, let's get them out of the Championship blocks with a wave of support over there. It's easy to get to!

Strong team. I think McGrath may get in ahead of Glynn. But great to have that headache - we were so weak in the full back line for a long time.
Cathal Sweeney has been in brilliant form for the past 12 months though and - he may well get in somewhere.
We have depth now.
