Flaherty could be key to solving our ongoing goalkeeping and associated kickout / restart issues - our coaches just can't seem to rectify this with our current choices. It always looks iffy, almost every single kickout looks unconvincing and challengeable. Go into championship that way and we can forget everything else we've worked on. Galway categorically have to solve it. Conor Flaherty has to be convinced to come back in, imo. He could miss out on a massive personal opportunity if he elects not to. Don't pass it up Conor!! The years don't be long flying by - hard for young fellas to realise this.

Peter Cullen from Clifden is back in training with them. Would definitely expect him to get some game time in Castlebar in two weeks time after the championship he had this year. Could be a serious addition.

Plenty of options up front now with Burke and McHugh back and Culhane emerging. First two unavailable last year while Culhane got very few minutes. Should have plenty of options in midfield with Cooke and McLaughlin both back available. Again neither were available last year.

Prospects might hinge on how they manage to replace Silke and Molloy. If both were available I'd give us a very good chance of getting back to an All-Ireland semi final and even final. Still conflicting reports on whether Silke will be back in April or not. But Molloy is definitely gone. That's potentially one third of last year's defence that management will have to find replacements for. Hard to see them moving Sean Kelly from 3 now given the other positions in defence that will need sorting out.

And obviously the old problem position of goalkeeper.

Replying To ahsure.:  "Lads let's focus on ourselves and not worry too much about Mayo. New manager bounce will help them and they clearly have a lot of work done. The proof will be in the pudding come April.

Coincidently was talking to a lad from Mayo yesterday who was raving about Orme and I think Towey inside - they are apparently now spoilt for choice in the forward division - but we all know an FBD indoor in the dome 2nd week of Jan has no real correlation to reality. We must bare that in mind from a Galway perspective also"
How teams should be producing high scores in the Airdome environment. Alarm bells was ringing for Mayo with their lack of scoring power when they only scored 0-13 against Galway in the Airdome last year.

Their 2-18 scoring total a lot better last Friday and done without Tommy Conroy, Ryan O'Donoghue and the O'Connor brothers however how much of that scoring was down to poor defending by a Galway defence that included few first choice defenders?

I have heard at least 12 gone from the panel all got a call from Joyce some players to note Barry mchugh and James foley, Dylan Canney, Grainger, jack kirrane, mannion from tuam, some decent players there in that lot, thought they would have been kept for a development squad

A number of players were released yesterday.
Don't be asking me who as I'm not naming them here but no shocks in reality.

Has anyone heard any updates on Michael Daly's return from injury? Would be a huge asset for Galway if was in the position to make a return this year

Where do you get your info from? It is very inaccurate, there was only one first choice defender that started last weekend, Galway were missing Silke, Kelly, Glynn, Molloy and Daly from the All Ireland Final. We can also add in Mulkerrins who was the preferred first choice full back prior to injury. As stated above by a good few posters the FBD is a development league.

We definitely will. We mean it this time.
But, if you want a safe investment, put a few quid on us to finish second.

No surprising that a bunch of players have been cut from the squad. With all the returning players and players coming back from club duty the squad was always likely going to be trimmed.

Think PJ himself said after the Mayo game it helped them find out who was up to it and who wasn't.

Accurate enough.

Galway/Mayo price reflects Connacht draw and one or other will not be seeded for the round robin and also there is every chance Roscommon will take one (or both) out of Connacht Championship. If either win Connacht that price will reduce to 6/1.

Roscommon price is a bit long considering how much trouble they generally cause for Galway/Mayo.

Regarding the bookies not getting it wrong and always making money ......... generally they make their money because the favourites lose more often than their price suggest they should..... so i wouldn't worry too much about that.

Squad depth will be more important this year with all the extra games. I think Galway are well covered to a certain extent in that regard however our spine is irreplaceable i.e. Kelly, Daly, McDaid, Walsh, Comer. If those 5 stay fit all year I think we have a great chance and if they don't we will win certain games but I couldn't see us contending to win AI.

Jarlaths lost today and are out of the championship on scoring difference. Semi finals are Colmans vs Claregalway and Summerhill Sligo vs Ballinrobe CS. Claregalway should win it from here which would be massive for them.
