Cappataggle vs Craughwell - Cappy by 5. Craughwell have been disappointing so far and if they start like they did against Loughrea they will be beaten out the gate here. galway19 (Galway) - Posts: 893 - 31/08/2022 14:23:46 2439247 Link 0 |

To whom it may concern, please spell "Kilconieron" correctly as I have seen about 10 different spellings at this stage!

Portumna surprised me beating Pearses. Beagh ran Athenry closer than I expected.

Good call from you with the two draws, but Cappy and the Bridge should have held on

Bought Cappy match in on Saturday and a few previous to that. Thomas's really are out on their own again this year, arent they? I mean in a sense that most teams are relying on 3 or 4 lads to get it done for them, Thomas's have 1 if not 2 on each line that can win a match for them. Expected Cappy to win handily enough, maybe it was the weather, but poor standard from both, sluggish. CillTormoir (Galway) - Posts: 524 - 05/09/2022 09:04:05 2439704 Link 0 |

With new grading system for senior and intermediate coming soon,it has struck me how many second club teams have made it to intermediate q/f.These second teams are full of young lads that are in competition to get onto senior teams of already strong clubs and really want to perform strongly at intermediate, even though they can't be promoted therefore taking the place of smaller intermediate clubs that only have one team and can never dream of getting to senior .Is this fair or if you have a second adult team should the highest you can go is Junior A.Worth a discussion. There are very few teams who are able to achieve this on a consistent basis. Some clubs just go through a time of having a big number of senior players at one time. If you drop them to junior A the same thing will apply but to Junior only teams. Look at Turlough, they were in constant senior relegation fear for years and barely staying in junior A, where now they have senior and intermediate teams. Also have two juniors teams too I think. Also probably down to demographics these days. It's unfortunate that some of the more rural clubs are having difficulty with numbers. There will just have to be more amalgamations down the line

Craughwells 2nd team got beaten by a whopping 27pts by the mighty Meelick-Eyrecourt but they still made it to Quarter Finals where they will most likely get another hammering by Rahoon-Newcastle. Killimor will absolutely hammer Turloughmores 2nd team in the Quarter Final katser (Galway) - Posts: 2567 - 05/09/2022 18:03:20 2439785 Link 0 |
If a senior second team can only get to junior A and are strong enough for intermediate then is it fair for the junior A first teams and what happens to a intermediate team that gets relegated then they will meet the second senior teams. Personally i think the intermediate is competitive too. There are 4 senior second teams. 2 are in relegation and 2 are in the quater finals. Also there hasn't been a senior second team in a final yet(could be wrong). plentyofstick (Galway) - Posts: 88 - 05/09/2022 19:07:52 2439788 Link 0 |
Some parishes are bigger than others, some parishes have a far bigger population than others, some parishes have far more interest in Gaelic Games than others, etc. What can you do? Not much. Its luck of the draw in a way.

Some parishes are in Kilkenny, Limerick, Tipperary and Cork. It's their luck of the draw. Not much you can do, really!

Very true. When I was growing up in Galway Castlegar was the team to beat because of the Connollys and others they had all came together and so they had a Golden Era whereas Portumna were no good until years later when the Cannings and others came in one big wave. It's the way it goes. I envy any parish that can support a Senior and Intermediate team while my parish can barely compete in Intermediate.

In fairness, even at county level, success often depends on Golden Generations.
