Katser seems really good at predicting and commenting on the club scene, as opposed to be totally useless about inter-county stuff! So, I take it from your comments that Turloughmore " ready…and looking to cut the legs from under them" are still the biggest crowd of butchers, hatchet men and sledgers in Galway club hurling that they always were, and that takes some bating! foreveryoung (USA) - Posts: 2118 - 15/09/2022 11:16:43 2440739 Link 1 |
Whelan & Shane Cooney both home for this weekends games... Be interesting to see how they do after their travels...

Agree with 8 of your 12 Trump but would go for Tommy Larkins, Loughrea, Leitrim Kilnadeema and Oranmore Maree in the other 4 fixtures

Yeah you could be right. Some of them are hard to pick. I picked Gort, Beagh, and Portumna so I expect to get spanked hard in some of the matches.

Tommy Larkins v Craughwell....Craughwell Mythoughts (Galway) - Posts: 5 - 17/09/2022 10:55:40 2440949 Link 0 |
Sylane will be warm favourites and rightly so. They cruised through and topped a harder group (on paper) than Kinvara scraped out of on score difference. Whelan is selected to start but has little/no hurling done in 6 weeks. I find it difficult to make a case for us winning but of course anything can happen on the day, and we will be starting stronger on paper (who knows on grass) than we were v Annaghdown. Its past time for Meelick/Eyrecourt to shit or get off the pot, they are fluting around flattering to deceive for a long time now. This should be the year they finally get the job done and go up though that's been said quite a few times before. I think the hardest part for M/E is actually getting to a final. If they manage that I expect them to win it. Stool Pigeon (Galway) - Posts: 906 - 17/09/2022 14:16:15 2440963 Link 0 |
Turlough fierce impressive. The young lads Quirke, O'Hanlon and Whelan all stood out. Thomas' has a very off day. galway19 (Galway) - Posts: 806 - 17/09/2022 16:35:17 2440970 Link 0 |
Now what does the Senior clubs 2nd Teams bring to the Intermediate Championship!! Craughwell beaten by 19pts and Turloughmore beaten by a whopping 30pts in the Quarter Finals while Castlegar are in the are in the relegation final. katser (Galway) - Posts: 2481 - 18/09/2022 15:14:56 2441034 Link 0 |
Agreed. Turlough were excellent. A defeat of that nature will sting badly for St Thomas. While the game itself wasn't do or die for them, they were defending a very impressive unbeaten record stretching back to 2019. The record was always going to come to an end at some stage, but to be beaten by such a margin will hurt their pride. St Thomas will be hoping to get another crack at them at the business end of the championship. A special mention for Portumna too, who produced a massive comeback, which was even more impressive given that they were down to 14 men early enough. Ah yes but really intermediate is junior in Galway, like be real 24 senior teams some of which are really only average. Kilbeacanty will probably make the drop and appeal it, it'll be interesting to see if the loser will actually be relegated given the soft appeals in recent years Sportsfanatic90 (Westmeath) - Posts: 226 - 18/09/2022 16:40:57 2441042 Link 1 |
Woo hoo what a brilliant draw for the Intermediate Semi Finals!!! I'm already looking forward to a epic all East Galway Co. Final!!! katser (Galway) - Posts: 2481 - 18/09/2022 17:00:19 2441044 Link 0 |
South Galway accounted for themselves fairly well too this weekend with Gort, Beagh, Ardrahan all winning. St Thomas's and Kilbeacanty dropped the ball though. Sigh.

Kilbeacanty could be dropping more than the ball....and dropping down to Junior A as there definitely is relegation from Intermediate this year. Intermediate Relegation Final Kilbeacanty v Castlegar 2nd Team. And with the way things are going it's furious hammerings Senior Clubs 2nd Teams are going to get in future Intermediate games with the likes of Tynagh Abbey-Duniry v Ahasragh-Fohenagh (most likely Senior B Relegation Final) and then Beagh, Padraig Pearses Kilconeiron dropping down to Intermediate over the next few years! katser (Galway) - Posts: 2481 - 18/09/2022 18:19:26 2441052 Link 1 |

Kilbeacnty will avoid the drop. Cashel will drop through the trapdoor . They were brutal today against a depleted spiddal in relegation semi. thecut (Galway) - Posts: 335 - 18/09/2022 20:36:42 2441082 Link 1 |
I hope you're right about Kilbeacanty surviving. They might not be great compared to the other bigger parishes but they love their hurling there.

Don't put anything you can't afford to lose on Eyrecourt winning. Ordinary enough against Abbey yesterday who were well beaten v KIllmor in last group match. John Fleming isn't fully fit and made little impact when sprung. Rahoon are sturdy enough when they get moving.
