They are done by seeding. The 4 semi finalists get seeded. Turloughmore lost to kilnademna last year so definitely don't deserve seeding. No bad year can lead to getting an awful group the following year. Craughwell and Gort being seeded teams probably caused a lop sided groups quality wise but like it rewards performance so can't say much about it.

Mellows have been on the wane since their last county final appearance. They were very consistent and definitely the second best team in Galway for those 3 years with a county title won along the way. Probably disappointed with the other finals, the 2019 one especially, and the all Ireland semi final against Cuala but other than that they beat everyone else galway had to offer. Probably don't have the players coming through to replace the lads they've lost. Against Ardrahan They looked very poor and short of any game plan that they were very good at under Mulqueen. Will still have enough to get out of the senior B group.

Yeah they were nice for a few years there. Could Ardrahan be better than people thought? Maybe they're this years dark horse. There's always that one team that goes further than expected.

Turlough v clarinbridge match is probably the game of the weekend Turlough had a great win over castlegar. Castlegar were very poor against Turlough so dunno was it that Turlough was very good or castlegar so poor. Clarinbridge were very sluggish against killimordaly but once they got going they got the scores alot easier. plentyofstick (Galway) - Posts: 88 - 16/08/2022 08:47:48 2437589 Link 0 |
Turloughmore and Clarinbridge is a mighty battle on paper. I'd give Clarinbridge the slight edge because i think the pitch in Athenry suits them and Turlough might struggle to get their running game going on a tighter pitch than Salthill. Will be interesting whether Turlough send someone to follow Niland or just let Holland or Daithi hold the centre. The way he floats around from 11 for Clarinbridge can hurt teams. galway19 (Galway) - Posts: 893 - 16/08/2022 10:20:04 2437601 Link 0 |
Sarsfields v Castlegar….Sarsfields by 5 Trump2020 (Galway) - Posts: 2502 - 16/08/2022 12:58:13 2437631 Link 0 |
Rather surprising, given the amount of players available to them. The year they won the county final, they mentioned how much work they were doing at underage level, how many players they were bringing in from all over the east of the city to training on Saturday / Sunday mornings on a weekly basis.

They very well could be. They had a very good run underage there and were probably one of the few small rural teams getting to later stages in minor A and u21a most years for a 4/5 year stage there, a lot of those lads would be between 20-25 now and have usually been good to have a couple on underage galway teams. Well capable of making jump to be a good solid senior A team. Probably underachieving last year or two but maybe could be team to make a big step up. If they got Johnny Glynn back in a year or two could bring them along even more. Wait to see how they get on, could be proven wrong on all that. Portumna game is a big one for them.

I think we should keep our powder dry for before putting O Donoghue on such a lofty pedestal. A very personable man but I don't feel he got the most out of the Galway squad. He did well in 2017 without ever really having a style of play that you could attribute to him. 2018 they were terrible in the final v Limerick and 2019 they were average again. He's got a lot less talent to work with in Dublin. It's a scandal how poor they are with the money that's been put into hurling there bloodyban (Limerick) - Posts: 1710 - 22/08/2022 16:37:24 2438299 Link 1 |
Good pick in the Clarenbridge match but I'm surprised you took Castegar over Sarsfields.

There are those who would disagree with you on the amount of money spent by Dublin on Hurling. About 17 years ago, I was told by a prominent Limerick County Board Official that the money spent on Dublin Hurling was very considerably higher than what was spent on the promotion of the game in Limerick at the time - and JP was sponsoring Limerick at the time.

I think it's a disaster of a move....MOD would be better suited with Offaly. Closer to home and under no pressure to deliver. There must be a nice few Euro involved for the Dublin gig because let's face it they will never win anything decent or be real contenders!
