Ballygunner have a lower level county level panel and winning every division/age group in Waterford and didn't use a sub till extra time. Tbh I don't think anyone on either side was playing too poorly either, was a great game. If anything Thomas's seemed to use their panel better than Ballygunner. O'Loughlins have a tight enough squad too but so did Ballyhale. If you can avoid injuries at club level its as good as having a big panel...probably Thomas's first time to have a full hand to pick from over the last 6 years. Ballyhale had injuries this year and it caught them too. If Daithi wasn't around, Shane and Fintan would pretty easily be 3 and 6 for Galway. They will both be starting for the county regardless next year. If that centre line along with Sherry, John Headd and Cian Mahoney doesn't stop that O'Loughlin Gaels forward line I'll eat my hat. Conor Cooney, Regan, David Burke and Eanna will do enough to drive the rest of them. They should be 4/9 to lift the cup not 4/6. End of. More players need to start pushing the others though the likes of Donal O'Shea, Martin Mcmanus, Greg Thomas, Alex Connaire, Eoin Lawless etc. I really hope that Eamon O'Shea coaching can benefit players like Jason Flynn and Kevin Cooney. They missed at least 6 goal scoring chances against Cushendall but it was no fluke that they made those chances. Also some of their halfbacks like Deegan and Fogarty can take scores at key times making them very dangerous opponents. Much the same team as last year, except that players like Fintan and Shane Cooney are riding 'high in the market' just now, despite having 'difficulties' at intercounty level in the past, the recent past even. If Killeen is a better midfielder than David Burke in 2024, that will be a notable milestone for the young man. All in all, no reason in the world to think that side would lay a glove on Limerick. Lawlor, Butler and Deegans experience in defence will huge in Croke Park for OLG. All 6 of their backs are very good if truth be told especially young Jordan Molloy number 7. All Kilkennys teams are very hard to beat in a final in Croker. I still think it's their for St Thomas, the way they hurled against Ballygunanr was exceptional especially at winning the rucks. Still not convinced about Murphy in goal, Grealish, Glennon, Fahy and Niland as they have not been consistent enough or in the crunch games. To take on Limerick's strength / physicality the likes of J, Cooney, C. Cooney, C. Mannion and Flynn are still required.
