Replying To Pope_Benedict:  "So Cunningham picked bigger fellas than McIntyre did......eh? History shows that Joe Cannong and Tannian were 'smaller' in 2012 than in 2011. Smaller, but more aerodynamic, and stronger with it, I've no doubt."
A quick look at the teams from first round 2011 and Leinster final 2012 (couldnt find first round team) shows the poster you replied to is right - of they were the years he was referring to. 2012 Niall Burke, Glynn and Joseph Cooney played a part among other bigger players. Comparing the two teams to me showed an obvious change but maybe they were the best players for the job and no one can say they brought the rewards to Galway.
It'll be interesting what Shefflin does this year. Kk themselves have a history under Cody for a long time of picking tall players especially forwards...

Glynn and Joe Cooney didn't feature a whole lot in 2012. Niall Burke was 'promoted' quickly alright, and was no11 a good bit that season. Cooney and Burke were central players on Galway's 2009 minor winning side. Glynn the no11 on the 2011 winning side. Those three were never going to be ignored for senior caps, regardless of who was the senior manager 2012-2015.

Ya thats fair enough. As I said theyre contribution def cant be questioned. I'll be interested to see if likes of Niland can play a bigger role this year. Also interested to see if O'Shea can bring into the panel and contribute...

It was great to see Eamonn O shea involved with the Junior hurling team in the Connacht League, was very impressed with a couple of players ,and one has to be commend the hurling board , a great idea and gives lads from the smaller clubs a chance to wear maroon. It shows the standard of club hurler in the county that they won it handy enough at the end.

Saturday will be another chance for lads to show something in Parnell Park, no harm getting a win up there as we dont have the greatest record. Id imagine we will see 5/6 changes , and great that we have David Burke for this season again

Whatever team does line out would want to be more tuned in than when we played them in this competition last year. Took a bad beating that day and we never seem to hurl well in Parnell Park. Would like to see Ian McGlynn and Alex Connaire involved if they are available and keep giving Donal O'Shea and John Cooney some experience.

O'Shea unlikely to have the physique for it, truth be told.

Unfortunately O'Shea nowhere near strong enough physically if Galway are to go far in the championship. McManus on the other hand could have big potential. Would like to see more of him in these games for sure. John Cooney also, 2 big men and have buckets of hurling ability in them.

OShea might struggle physically but he's a very clever hurler, very aware of what's going on around him, and can put it over the bar.

Agree re McManus and Cooney, we're going to need them to come thru to balance the forwards with lads like Niland, Kennedy, Lee, Collins (in the future) all very talented but small.

O'Shea of the last couple of years for sure. But I've heard it said that he has bulked up quite a bit now? Haven't seen him play recently so not sure how true that is.

He has changed his game a bit in the last year or so. He's not really just an inside forward. All game against Westmeath he spent his time between the two 65s as a working half forward. Would like to see him in the same role against Dublin on Saturday. He isn't really going to be grabbing puck outs out of the sky but he isn't going to be pushed around either. Took his scores nicely as well.

I dont agree with you there but time will tell. I think hes exactly the type of forward Galway needs.

Although he's a back, Mickey Butler 5' 6" (Young Hurler of the Year 2022), seems to be OK with marking forwards bigger than him.

Solid win but Dublin played no better than an average club team. Tiernan Killeen excellent, classy hurler. Donal O'Shea another good game with his scoring but also definitely won at least four turnovers by hooking Dublin players. Fahy made an unreal save in the first half.

Maybe they will bring it out next year.I think the 1923 final was actually played in 1924!
