Yup. Willie Cleary and Niall Corcoran (part of Davy's set-up this year) ratified as senior selectors. A third selector to be added at some later stage. Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 2185 - 20/10/2021 10:45:30 2386378 Link 1 |
Are Mick and Ennis from Horeswood ( his 1st name escapes me) the joint managers at u17.

It's Roger Ennis. He's one of the selectors, rather than being a joint manager. Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 2185 - 20/10/2021 14:08:00 2386438 Link 0 |
All good appointments it has to be said. Good luck to them all next year!

Interesting to see the Billy Walsh role especially if he's still based in Colorado. Looks like decent appointments overall.

I can see Wexford having a big year this year. Davy stayed 2 years too long. He's as cute as a fox in how he snaffled that last year. The way I see it Wexford do have the full forward line to be successful. You need one free scoring half forward with Chin centre or wing and one creative midfielder. The Wexford backs are capable but in my opinion haven't been coached well and have got complacent because of the extra man back there. Overall its going to be a free flowing game plan with a Tipp man in charge..It ll be a massive change really. Still not sure if Wexford will make it as a real contender but I would be nervous if it was a Limerick v Wexford All Ireland semi. bloodyban (Limerick) - Posts: 1710 - 21/10/2021 07:45:21 2386555 Link 0 |
Thanks for the vote of confidence but an All Ireland Semi again I think is a bit more that most Wexford supporters would think is possible. Then again who knows, new manager bounce, anything could happen. Hard to see us challenging Limerick at the moment or any other county for that matter. zinny (Wexford) - Posts: 1790 - 22/10/2021 12:36:00 2386802 Link 0 |
Will be interesting next year we can probably go about our business quietly as there was always a bit more media spotlight with Davy, limelight definitely on Galway with Henry in town. bostonredsox (Wexford) - Posts: 4368 - 22/10/2021 13:27:00 2386816 Link 0 |
There was no expectation or hype around our hurlers this year really Wexico. And over 70 minutes they hammered Laois, drew with Kilkenny and nearly reeled Clare back in after giving them a more than 10 point head start. I dont think being under the radar will make us any better this year. Hopefully Egan can motivate/coach the existing panel and find a couple of lads who might make the step up to the starting 15 from within it. And find some new lads to step up/commit to the intercounty panel this year and push for places on the bench. A new system might also benefit players like Mac if he can motivate him to do the chasing and covering back. Id be very surprised if there were many changes to our starting 15 or even the matchday 26 though to be honest.

Thats abit depressing because Wexfird certainly do need some new blood in that squad. I think another 5 players challenging at the minimum. The squad as it currently stands is decent but woukdnt trouble Limerick I'm my opinion. But with a new midfielder and 2 new forwards.. could make all the difference. bloodyban (Limerick) - Posts: 1710 - 26/10/2021 17:49:52 2387493 Link 0 |
Seen it was said at the end of the Peoples piece on the backroom appointments that Frank Flannery would be involved in some capacity. Is that just with the minors it was worded ambiguously?

I agree with you totally bloodyban as regards the Wexford senior panel needing new blood. I think Viking is wrong too, if we persist with the current starting 15 then I can't see us making any impact next year. And at the very least, the overall panel has to get an injection of 5/6 new players. You are spot on as regards a midfielder…Conor Hearne is the obvious candidate here. Davy Fitzgerald never gave him a proper chance. He is an excellent young hurler. And we need a few new forwards too…Paul Morris should only be used from the bench at this stage. At least Fitzgerald is gone….Let's hope Darragh Egan does the necessary and shakes things up as the last 2 years have been fairly dismal.

What other players can we see coming into the starting 15 and being up to the standard required. Conor Mahoney looked excellent for Glynn last year maybe he could be involved? Any others?

I would say that Viking would be of the view that Davey did all he could to promote new players, some would agree but a lot of others wouldn't. There was a panel there and some didn't get used very much. However hopefully it's not just nee players but also getting some of the older players back on form Mac and Jacko are two for example that have underperformed for some time now given their talent. The truth lies somewhere in between the two opposing views. This are not as bad as they seem but not so good we will be winning an all Ireland next year. zinny (Wexford) - Posts: 1790 - 28/10/2021 14:01:13 2387719 Link 0 |
I didnt say we should persist with the current starting 15. Only that I couldnt see any more than 1 or 2 lads being good enough to force their way in. Conor Hearne did ok in his 1st season and hopefully he will kick on next year. Aidan Rochford did ok in 2020 too but didnt play in 2021. A more urgent need is a more mobile centre back. Also better cover in the cornerback positions. Great to see Niall Corcoran in the management team again it was noticeable how much backs like Donohue and Shane Reck but also Flood and Bailey too. I agree that Paul Morris might be a better option off the bench. It was good to see Dunne and Dwyer improving as last year went on. Who are the 5 or 6 new lads that you think should be in the starting 15/bench and who are the 5 or 6 that they should replace?

Regards midfield listening to 1 or 2 peices from Tipp folk they don't think Egan will play a designated sweeper like Davy as such, he'll probably play a 2 man full forward line and an extra body further out like most teams these days, I think it's a given if that arises that Kevin Foley is 1 of the midfield berths with the other up for grabs, I think Hearne as mentioned certainly worthy of a run in the league, I think the 2 St Annes men still have alot to offer possibly as forwards, I think Dee starting wing forward and drifting out in a free role bit like Daniel Kearney for a few years for Cork has potential, Liam Og has had a good club campaign in both codes so wouldn't be writing him off. Also on Foley if Egan decides to switch the captaincy to freshen things up he would be my pick. bostonredsox (Wexford) - Posts: 4368 - 29/10/2021 07:30:40 2387778 Link 0 |
I have it on good authority that eight Gorey lads have been called up to the preliminary training panel (well 6 if you discount the two ever presents), including Cullen and Eoin Molloy. beano (Wexford) - Posts: 1407 - 29/10/2021 10:17:12 2387791 Link 0 |
