Big congratulations to Offaly and upsetting the odds yesterday (Cork were 2/7 so the bookies were in agreement with me rather than the after timers here or 'oh I meant to' brigade). I was happy to be wrong in this instance. Young Egan is a great bit of stuff. Cork were incredibly flat and like alot of underage teams didn't handle the pressure. Anyways my bank account is a bit lighter but those are the risks. Just a shame my fan club didn't warn me or tell me I was writing nonsense before the game.....great lads!!!

Offaly vs Down pairing would be reminiscent of all Ireland from early sixties. Hope this Under 20 team will be a prelude to a successful Offaly in the future. This great football county has been out of contention for too long!

Read what i said after the Leinster final.

By the way, it was people like you who didn't do your research who made Cork 2/7 not the bookies :-)

Congratulations to Offaly. Super team. Great to see them back. With Derry winning a minor last year (a few weeks ago) and with either Offaly, Roscommon or Down guaranteed to win this trophy it is very healthy for football that counties that are not Division 1 (Rossies were relegated this year) are going to win.

Disappointing that we didn't win but still thought we did well and we have good young players on that team. We still showed a lot of character to get back into that game and could have leveled it. Our lads can hold their heads high. No shame in losing to that superb Offaly side.

I always say 'take no notice of bookies odds' in relation to the possible results of GAA Games.

No research? Ya sure. Didn't say anything in relation to my posts till after the event bit like you and your 'oh I was gonna' but didn't.....says it all. I had a strong opinion and I was wrong such is the unpredictable nature of underage football. At least I was strong enough in my opinion to share rather than being the brave lad after the event.

If I'd been after timing I would have claimed to have had the bet!

It was one of several bets I thought about and in the end chose Tyrone.

Who, if you look at the Ulster final thread i say I fancied.

Also you obviously haven't done much research on how bookies reach their odds. They don't get their odds from people like me they actually employ people called odds compilers to do that. In years gone by you could get value from going to games as often compilers compiled odds based on a county's reputation. However with covid and the popularity of streaming this no longer the case.

You call out me by tagging replies to my posts for basically having the conviction to share my opinion after the event yet you didn't have the conviction to do so before. Surely you had issue with my apparent lack of research before the game so why didn't you tag a reply then? Real small man bully boy stuff. Next time don't be the after timer and we might have an enjoyable discussion. Plus I'll be able to remind you to go to the bookies if you have the conviction that is good man.

Really Barney what you said in the past doesn't interest me now. The mentality of people trying to shame or make someone look stupid after the event is cowardly and a toxic practice. You tagged a reply to my post after the event but didn't before says it all. I had conviction in sharing an opinion hoping to entice further opinion and discussion. You and a couple of others apparently had an opinion but didn't have the conviction to share until afterwards reminding me of my failings. So ya I really wouldn't have much interest in your opinion not that it lacks substance. I just chose to not associate myself with people who display weak minded toxic behaviours.

Don't see Down being beaten. Sean Boylan finger prints all over them.....and lots of talent also.

Apologies if i offended you. I hadn't intended to shame or make you look stupid.

Neither offended, felt shamed or stupid for that matter. I am way above any keyboard warriors wise after the event. Next time tag my post before and hopefully we'll have a good discussion Barney. I can guarantee there are few if any on this thread who have watched more minutes of U-20 football this year than I have. That is the type of research I do and on this occasion I got it wrong. Leinster was much stronger than what it looked and I probably over valued the Munster form given it contained Kerry who have been dominant at minor. Plus given the age bracket it can often come down to mentality on the day. Anyways looking forward to the next semi final which should be a cracker.

Can't wait for this. Any Roscommon men to look out for in particular?

The Down goalie doesn't fill me with confidence.

Some lovely scores in this, including both goals. Handling letting Rossies down a bit 1st half and Down wasteful at times up front.

Good game on a dirty day
