Leaves a lot for an individual ref to have to interpret!"]Viking66 that is the problem one size fits all. You know how I advocate for a tackle but the game should be non contact until at least 14. Let them hone their other skill until then and when it is time to tackle specific training how to execute. There are coaches now for every thing. Is there one for this, I honestly don't know ?

Great! Try using that definition to explain precisely what a fair tackle is is to an under-12 team."]The tackle is aimed at the ball, not the player. Whatever about other bits, that is clear enough. If a player is striking the ball, you have the option to dispossess at this point through hooking or blocking. The really skilful players can execute this. If a player is soloing, a skillful player can flick the ball away. There's no need to use the spare hand to grab a hand or a Hurley. Not even for 'less than a second '.. bennybunny (Cork) - Posts: 3917 - 12/06/2021 19:52:56 2349919 Link 1 |

What an absolutely disastrous NHL campaign for Laois. 5 games and 5 defeats and never remotely looked like doing anything in any of the games. The GAA in Laois is in a desperate state at the moment. The improvement and interest that Eddie Brennan instilled is a distant memory. Not blaming cheddar he's a good hurling man but he's yesterday's man and when he left the job a few years back the team were getting destroyed. Something has to be done it's just terrible what's going on in the county they don't give a toss in the county board. Every dog and his mother knew cheddar was a dreadful mistake to reappoint. Its more of the same heavy defeats, low morale and empty stadiums. Laois is a county that is poisonous from within the only improvement in the last 30 years was when mick ó Dwyer and Eddie Brennan rolled into town men who know what it takes and all the met was roadblocks. The championship will be short and sweet yet again. Richardkimble (Laois) - Posts: 39 - 12/06/2021 23:16:38 2350025 Link 3 |
Sorry to see this. I'd love to see Hurling go up a few notches in that county as well as others. What a shame.

Very happy about Galway's road win today and finishing top of the group without some key players playing. I hope they do meet Kilkenny in the Championship to put some closure to the League. Galway Abu! Trump2020 (Galway) - Posts: 2520 - 13/06/2021 15:35:02 2350215 Link 1 |
Our injury total is worrying. Gleeson, Prunty, Fives and possibly Fagan. Hopefully some are not too serious. The team is built to score goals and could have 6 or 7 today. Tipp look vulnerable if ran out. However the championship is a different story. One thing was noticeable the last two weeks. Very few rucks. Also the fast ball accurately hit in with the stick once you cross the half way. Waterford created havoc today with that and also winning aerial puck outs from the long ball. The hand pass more suitable in defence to maintain possession and not get turned over. More optimistic now that we see a varied game but while liking scores the same as everyone else the amount is reducing play time considerable. The new rule now allow us enjoy the skills of Hutchison, Shane Bennett and players on other teams. Hacking has decreased but a tough time to be a defender. Everyone in the country likes cheddar but it is hard to fathom what the expectation was going back to him. It looks like no expectation. Laois are a good hurling county with good players. They remind me of us in the 70's and 80's. Could muster up 9 or 10 good players but could not fill it out. How hard it is to get results even when you fill it out. This rot in Laois needs to be investigated first and then eradicated.

Aren't you getting a bit ahead yourself? Plus being disrespectful to Dublin, Wexford, Antrim and Laois. Both Galway and Kilkenny have to play, and win, Leinster semi-finals before thinking about the final.

eddie brennan was only thinking of his own career at the end of the day, speaks volumes running off to probably the wealthiest hurling club in the country

I know next to nothing about Laois GAA. But isn't the county board determined by the clubs? Or is there more to it?

Yeah, what a cur. In two years he raises the form and profile of a smaller hurling county, but finds the county board won't, or are unwilling, to back his plans for further improvement; so he leaves.

Not sure it's just as simple as Eddie Brennan running off. Eddie Brennan was there to do a job and he didn't get the backing of the county board or a couple of the clubs either for that matter. He was a hard tast master and a few of the players who weren't prepared to put the hard work in opted out the next year. They are now back for the easy ride under cheddar and if the reports are correct the after match drinking culture is back on board.

Speaks volumes about what? He was offered the Cuala job and he was 100% right to take it. Cuala are an unbelievably well run top class hurling club with serious ambitions having won the All Ireland senior club title twice. Laois as a GAA county seem to have no ambition. If ye think LAOIS got to the 2019 all ireland qtr final was all about Brennan you are wrong, at the end of the day they were building for 6 years to get an all important result in the championship with the foundations laid by chedder plunkett plus with a certain amount of luck along the way getting the easier draw with dublin compared to getting limerick. Brennan is a good coach im not saying hes not but the whole thing what laois did that year was all down to him according to media sources. Last year against dublin they played with one or two sweepers and could have beaten clare but didnt, and then just to drop bombshells and walk out like that and expect chedder to come back and pick up the pieces has done no one any good.

There's nobody here doubting what cheddar has done for laois he's a good man and a great hurling man. Eddie Brennans position was untenable because that pup against Eddie's wishes made that interview that Eddie asked to be completely off the record public he's a no good troublemaker. I'm sure if Eddie got the buy in from everyone he would have drove it on but the usual roadblocks were put in place. Cheddar should not have come back that's my opinion and the opinion of many other people. When he finished his time in laois they were getting very bad defeats regularly and going down hill. Also if rumours are correct and they are just rumors lots of players are losing interest and reports of the few pints are doing the rounds. What preddan ? Eddie Brennan played a sweeper. You must be mistaken. Derek McGrath was the devil for playing like that.
