It's not about saving one life though, it's about saving thousands of lives."
That is the rethoric that will thrown at you if you dare frown at the present situation.
You do realise that many, many of these deaths are recorded as covid if they were positive at that time.
Remember, with covid is not 'of' covid.
You are right about the 1000s of lives though, the mental health related A&E cases have risen 300%, and what will happen when all the folk who have had their livelihoods destroyed hit rock bottom?
Sadly we will be finding out over the next couple of years.
It's a horrible choice, but the bigger picture screams get on with it."
I think it's a bit insulting actually to imply that the efforts of the Government agencies to save thousands of lives and stop the health system from crashing as "rhetoric". It's also insulting to the hard working frontline workers who have worked day and night trying to save as many lives as possible and then on top of that to insinuate whether people died "with or of covid". Even medical professionals find it difficult to immediately evaluate that, so you're certainly not qualified to make such a judgement.

Have you already forgotten the harrowing images from Italy at the early part of last year when the virus started to get a foothold in Europe, tens of thousands of dead bodies with no room left in the morgues and army trucks ferrying the dead to remote crematoriums. I'm you don't think that would have been an acceptable price to pay for the freedom to go and have a few pints and watch a game of hurling or football, and I can tell you the exact same thing would have happened in Ireland had the government not acted, and I can also tell you this, that's when you would really have a significantly higher rise in mental health issues than the 300% rise you mentioned, but the only difference is there would be nobody to help them because the whole health service in Ireland would have collapsed. That's the only big picture you need to think about.

Yes of course many businesses have been destroyed as they were in the most recent recession and every one that went before that, but this isn't unique to Ireland but again the government is doing what it can to support these businesses and individuals. Ireland is already a heavily indebted country remember, it's not some cash rich arab state.

The whole world is fed up by the virus and I can see and understand the strain in your words, but you know something, maybe it's time we should be thankful that vaccines have been developed at such rapid speed and look forward to better days ahead, instead of giving out about it constantly, because it's a futile exercise. Things are improving rapidly at the moment and long may that continue."]Insulting front line workers? Like myself you mean? Listen up, there are far more serious conditions being put on the back foot here, like cancer for instance.

Why is something so dangerous and so rife as the big C being paused for this?

Insinuation? I have access to this data.

As for the govt, give me a break, they've no idea what they're doing.

Why did Monaghan do this, why? Why? It's a terrible look, i do not like it. The players should have known about the thing better. And it's pointless because they'll win nothing anyway, Banty isn't he.

3 why's, what about 1 reason, counties fed up waiting to get the privileges soccer and rugby get. And don't come the bull about pros v amateurs. They might be pros in name but that's as far as it goes. How can you be more pro than GAA players off the field? Do they have special supermarkets, newsagents, takeaways, petrol stations they use that the rest of us can't use? Don't think so. Kick about on an open field and people coming down on them, get a grip. No harm done in Dublin or Monaghan. Love to see an open draw 32 All- Ireland and Leitrim v Monaghan .

realdub (Dublin),

Insulting front line workers? Yes, insulting.

Like myself you mean? I don't know or need to know what you do or claim to do for a living.

Listen up, there are far more serious conditions being put on the back foot here, like cancer for instance. Why is something so dangerous and so rife as the big C being paused for this? Because of Ireland's underfunded health care system.

Insinuation? I have access to this data. There is no data to distinguish who has died "of or with" covid in Ireland at the moment, but I invite you to produce this non existent data, before you dig yourself into a bigger hole. The data doesn't exist, period, so your claim is completely unsubstantiated.

I'm looking forward to reading your "data".

Think if Monaghan drew Leitrim in an open draw it would take the same energy levels as a kickabout to dispose of them.

Banty was suspended on Thursday and the County Board and Banty apologised Unequivocally for breaching the rules.

Monaghan resume training on Friday night.

What happens now?

Gardaí confirmed to Shannonside Northern Sound yesterday that they attended an 'impromptu' training session at Aughnamullen GAA Club in Monaghan.

They confirmed they spoke to a number of individuals.

Both Aughnamullen GAA Club and the Monaghan County Board said they have no comment to make.

It's less than a week since senior football manager Seamus 'Banty' McEnaney was suspended by the County Board after a training session was held in breach of restrictions.

Late to table here as I haven't been online much with no activity on the fields these days. But every player caught at one these sessions should have been banned from intercounty football for the year. Banning managers for 3 months is a disgraceful light punishment. It was against the rules to train, doing so is trying to gain an unfair advantage on the opposition who keep to the rules. If a player is on PEDs he is trying to gain an unfair advantage on the opposition and the punished meets the crime. Monaghan whole squad, The Dublin players and Cork Down should be ashamed. That said we move on but the whole thing stinks. Blatant disregard for the rules and opposition who obeyed them
