I wonder why?

I think you asked what was great about the wars when I referenced the "Great Wars", wasn't that it ?

No of course not, why would the GAA do that? You can change punishments and state clearly this is what happens if you do from this date on, but you cannot retrospectively apply them or you will find yourself infront of the DRA. GAA to my knowledge hasn't published anything on what punishment is to be dished out, in fact no one knows what the punishment for this actually is. If they did then maybe people wouldn't do it.

Nah. I think we disagreed about WW1 being a Great War.

"The figures on deaths relating to covid are inflated" Oh yeah? Do you have a credible source for that statement? And by credible, I mean something other than a Trumpian echo chamber or some shrieking low rent viewspaper, please. In fact, globally, according to Dr Michael Ryan, the figures may have been undererestimated: https://www.cnbc.com/2020/09/28/official-coronavirus-death-toll-is-likely-an-underestimate-of-the-true-total-who-says.html But sure, what would he know lol essmac (Tyrone) - Posts: 1141 - 06/04/2021 21:46:15 2336154 Link 2 |
Correct, you said "There was nothing great about WW1". I referred to the "Great Wars", but they, and particularly WW1 were called "Great" because of their size and not because of their "quality", but you wrongly assumed the latter.

Look I don't know what the GAA will do concerning Dublin's punishment but this is a serious breach of the rules (and this twelve hours after head quarters reiterated again that nobody was to go back training early) and cheating needs to be discouraged by what ever means possible weather that means Dublin get a greater punishment than Down or Cork I think they should, a message needs to be sent out that this is not acceptable weather your a team as low as Down or Cork or a team as high as Dublin. I'd love if Galway could get a head start in both the football and the hurling but we can't because we actually obey the rules.

These players made a poor decision but once they did it was seized on and used as diversion from the facts that in spite of all the regulations the virus spreads. People trying to join the dots that some players kicking a ball around separated out in a field are spreading covid. Then Kenny okay with a good old political party of 80 as history but wants the book thrown at Dublin for this. Canuck (Waterford) - Posts: 3035 - 06/04/2021 22:46:14 2336161 Link 4 |
You said, "you wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for the people who fought and died in the great wars." I took issue with the phrase "great wars." Great wars implies WW1 was a war of liberation when it was anything but. Anyway thanks for the clarification AfricanGael. Hopefully we'll be posting about matches all over the country in the not too distant future.

Ah no, the meaning of "Great" in that sense is the scale of the war, a word often used to describe size like in Great Lakes, Great Barrier Reef, Great White etc etc. Yes indeed.

Have some people on here gone off topic ? carlovia (None) - Posts: 1536 - 07/04/2021 19:01:49 2336209 Link 3 |
This topic has really gone down the drain..what a pity it couldn't have been discussed properly or else people now realize that what the dubs did just is no longer the bloody end of the world..I've an idea that maybe all those giving out want the dubs to be thrown out to make it a slightly more even championship.. Well don't you think the dubs already have enough advantages without having to resort to cheating to gain yet another ? It's just another line on the lengthy rap sheet. You have dubs talking about never buying the Indo just because they were caught cheating, like the poor man's self pity city.

Breaking news seems footage of Monaghan players training at the end of March might take some of the heat of Dublin. Wonder how many other counties are breaking the rules? jd1963 (Dublin) - Posts: 16 - 08/04/2021 08:03:30 2336232 Link 1 |
