Oh right

So suspending flights from the UK on the 20th December kept it out then?

Sure it wasn't here..

Thousands of people travelling back and forth before the 20th for Christmas and business didn't bring it back.. sure."
Well I only go by the facts, that there were no cases in Ireland at the time which is a million miles from your speculation that "a British variant was here running amuck".

Testing recent arrivals
The HSE is making arrangements to test recent arrivals from the UK, Dr Holohan said. Dr Cillian de Gascun, director of the NVRL, said the samples tested were from last weekend, so the variant of the virus was likely acquired around December 12th-14th.

At this stage mayve we should all use a similar message of outrage? "I am totally disappointed and outraged at .............................(just enter the offending counties/clubs name) Senior Inter-County (club) Football team training in total disregard for public health and the law."

Sadly we cannot help ourselves can we? We need draconian sanctions or they will be imposed from outside and rightly so on the entire organisation if it cannot nor will not provide leadership on this. I would say the clock is ticking GAA, better wake up and smell the coffee.

Even though I don't agree with teams being hung, drawn and quartered as much as they have been or will be in the media and outdoor training should've been allowed,in my opinion, commence a lot sooner than the 3rd week of April(officially) The rules are rules and should be followed by all as annoying as they are.

I just wish the media would give as much scrutiny to other large(r) outdoor gatherings that shouldn't be happening either, ahem, funerals and the like.

I never said

"an entire championship was played while a British variant was here running amuck and community transmission of such was rampant"

Please now.. for an educator ;)

You shouldn't really be making up quotes and rearranging words to suit, you should be willing to copy and paste a quote accurately. Not wing what you thought I said as evidence to help support your inaccurate assumption and even place it in quotation marks... tut tut.

Talk about misinformation :)

I do agree though that my wording was open to being misinterpreted. Which it was by you.

The Championship was deemed safe to play under level 5 restrictions, despite proven outbreaks impacting inter County panels. We were still deemed to be elite at the time.. strange that. Even with the virus spreading amongst inter County players..

The British variant was in Ireland during full contact championship conditions, while we were deemed elite at the time, fast forward a few weeks and all of a sudden a small non contact kick around involving 9 players in open air conditions while photographed standing 2+ meters apart is front page news... bigger news than a covid impacted Sligo panel having to pull out of the championship, because they couldn't field a team.. but sure the show still went on. Full contact, inter County travel from all over the country.

It's all a bit silly now, and the hyperbole reactions while ignoring the conditions acriss the 2020 championship is rather questionable.

You're right. There's no evidence to suggest the British strain was here for the entire duration but there is proven evidence to show that regarless of strain, the virus was still impacting panels but sure wasn't it great to have something to watch...

I think anyone with average intelligence knows what's meant by "all the while".

You are now trying to weasel your way out by denying you meant that at all, instead of just being a man and admitting you were incorrect.

I'm sorry I'm not

I'm merely correcting you misquouting me and re-arranging my words to suit your argument.

Which you've clearly done.. even putting them after being rearranged in quotation marks..

You've accused me of misinformation while actively misquouting me..

In my opinion the British strain was very much here while we were playing championship football as flights were only cancelled on the 20th and the highly contagious nature of the British variant makes it highly likely to have been brought back into the country from the thousands travelling back and forth before the 19th/20th December

If you have evidence to suggest otherwise I'm all ears

But regardless of strain sure County panels were still catching Covid 19.. and yet sure on we went and still played away knowing full well of the impacts already felt by teams
