I think he deserves it, jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20763 - 20/02/2021 17:21:51 2332149 Link 6 |
Doesn't bother me if he gets it. He was brilliant this year. Also superb in the final despite spending most of the second half chasing back when we lost our shape. A great player who people love to hate and many think he has a poor scoring record in big games. He doesn't. People just don't like him. He had a superb season and is deserving of the POTY award. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13803 - 20/02/2021 19:03:02 2332167 Link 6 |
Yeah and listen I don't mind them disliking him for reasons such as off the ball challenges or whatever their claims are but the same people try and claim he is a tap over merchant who doesn't show up on the biggest day. It's bizarre.

Congrats to Cillian had a fine year! TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4517 - 20/02/2021 19:46:45 2332180 Link 2 |
Fenton deservedly wins POTY. I could only imagine the online abuse if Cillian won it. Well done to all the all star winners especially our own Cillian and Oisin on his double All Star and YPOTY yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11589 - 20/02/2021 19:59:23 2332185 Link 11 |
He had a remarkable season truth be told. Fitzsimons is arguably the stickiest marker out there. You don't see him beaten like that, it doesnt happen. When you consider coc was on a downward trajectory the last few years, it is hard not to give him the upmost credit for the season he had. However, kilkenny had a really great season also, and Id be slightly leaning to him for the award, but i agree with the sentiment regarding oconnors season, like him or loath him, you have to admire his grit. People always do that though, they don't like the player therfore they'll run down their ability. Being completely honest, I don't like O'Connor as a player. He's the type of player in any sport that I just don't like. However he's a serious footballer and one of the best finishers I've ever seen. He doesn't get the credit his ability deserves but that's due to his on field behaviour unfortunately. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13803 - 20/02/2021 20:12:42 2332188 Link 4 |
Cillian would be a popular player in this neck of the woods. Shame to think that he doesn't have an all Ireland but he is still young enough.

Fair play to Brian, super player. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4517 - 20/02/2021 20:21:35 2332193 Link 2 |
Really? I dont see why personally. He is a hard working forward, who can score heavily and is ultra cool in front of goal. He is also able to give the defender plenty of what defenders are supposed to give to forwards and is a better tackler than a lot of them. In interviews he doesnt talk in the usual tired old platitudes and just keeps it short. I find him quite refreshing as a player to be honest.

I'm all confused reading these posts. I though Cillian won poty by the posts but I hearFenton won. Congrats to Brian and commiserations to Cillian and Ciarán. CiarraiMick (Dublin) - Posts: 3936 - 20/02/2021 20:33:36 2332197 Link 1 |
Nail on the head there.

That's what I don't like about the way games are played. Great forwards like Cillian shouldn't be in the back line chasing. I'm sure they would rather stay at the business end of pitch.

Had Kilkenny to win it before the final, but he wasnt having a good final until Durcan went off then came into the game.. tommy132 (Mayo) - Posts: 640 - 20/02/2021 23:31:59 2332226 Link 1 |
O'Connor would been an acceptable winner in fairness, hard luck and well done to Brian. Cillian performed brilliantly for a player who could have easily thrown his hat at it at this stage. Says something positive about him for a change. realdub (Dublin) - Posts: 8758 - 21/02/2021 02:23:26 2332237 Link 7 |
I would actually had had CON as my POTY and he wasn't even nominated. From a Mayo point of view he was the difference in the final and was a constant threat. TheFlaker (Mayo) - Posts: 8401 - 21/02/2021 04:11:12 2332238 Link 11 |
Does fenton winning it disprove the ol 'splitting the Dublin vote' excuse that was peddled in the past? HardCase (USA) - Posts: 64 - 21/02/2021 09:51:32 2332247 Link 2 |
No, it stands to reason that if there are two candidates from one county, not just Dublin it will adversely affect their indiividual votes, it seems this time C O'C, for whatever reason was not strong enough to take advantage.
