Just like pro soccer, pro rugby and any other sport.
Theyre fitter."
Thanks for that Doctor. Very enlightening post. Amazing how Dublin are always fitter than the other 31 counties for the past eight or so years!! But sure they're fitter. That explains it all so. Cheers for that insight

Exactly they do that incase 1 of them get a bad injury they have something to fall back on.

Look at some point Dublin figured out how to use their population advantage in the most effective way.

Dublin have much bigger numbers so there going to have in turn a much higher number of high caliber athletes.

So then you decide to play very high tempo football that will burn of 90% of the opposition. then you only left with a couple of teams that compete with you and you'll beat them too because they'll only have 12 lads with the required athleticism but Dublin will have 20-25 lads of that level.

The first time I noticed was the 2013 final they just ran Mayo into the ground.

Absolutely the financial imbalance will need to be addressed but there will need to be rule changes to the game to take some running out of it (no backpassing into your own half, standardised pitch sizes to 80m width etc)and possibly reduce the matches to 60 minutes. Maybe split into 3 periods like ice hockey or 4 quarters. Otherwise I can see Kerry and Dublin winning 90% of all the All ireland going forward

Get rid of the advance mark and the palmed in goals, the black card has become a problem too, that black card Dublin got in the final was ridiculous, saying that they could probably win with 14 men anyway they are that good.
I have to laugh at the people saying how great Dublins bench is that they they can bring on All Stars to finish out the game, that's the reason they are left on the bench and they start the younger less experienced lads, it's not rocket science. Have your best most experienced players on when the game is there to be won.
The Dubs will be beaten, I think Tyrone are going to have a big chance next year, also Kerry will be bursting to get back to an All Ireland final.

Wouldn't it be great though to be so confident of your own superiority that you can afford to leave good players on the bench knowing full well that you'll still be competitive (probably winning comfortably actually) with any opposition with 15 minutes to go.

If galway tried to leave our top 5 or 6 players on the bench til the closing quarter most opposition teams would be outta sight by then.

In what game has any team ever left their top 5 or 6 players on the bench?

Given the concussion issue in both Football and Rugby, surely Gaelic football, has a good future. In that heading the ball and full frontal tackles are banned.

You will always have a better chance of winning a match if you have your best players on the field playing all of the time . A goal in the first minute counts as 3 points, the same as one scored by the last kick of the game. There are all sorts of theories being posted about when your best players should be on. My only surprise is why Dublin have not started one of their best 4 players all year (Howard). Mayo's mistakes were:

a)playing your best forward man marking around the middle of the field most of the time when there was nobody to take a score inside.

b)playing a big immobile player in middle of park

c) putting on substitutes in the last 15/20mins who were mostly unable to make correct decisions and shot speculatively for points

Sometimes doing the simple thing well is better than overcomplicating. Two critical decisions were the black which should have been given and the obvious close in free which was easily scorable (and ended as score at the other end).

Nope, I do not think that football is finished. It is just that some days are good and some days are bad. Also depends on the players, coach, and even the transfers of the team. There is no denying that this season is not that really good but you cant really blame it all on the players. Well, why don't you just check this out https://betx.com/2020/12/18/premier-league-accumulator-betting-tip-sunday-20-december/

What do people think of the "back court" rule a la basketball, whereby a team in possession cannot bring the ball back into their own half? Dublin do it a lot but other teams do it too. 5 or 6 points up, keeping the ball for 3 or 4 minutes at a time, often the ball going from the half forward line all the way back to the goalkeeper. Extremely difficult for the team without the ball to win back possession. At least with the option of going back beyond the half way line removed, the pitch would be dramatically shortened and the tackling team could really blitz the team in possession, and try launch a counter attack. Could lead to some exciting football.

Actually that definately would Make the game more exciting Bally. Its no coincidence that an Irish basketball coach has been in with Dublin last few years. One of the first teams I ever saw playing that type keep ball system was Dr Crokes in Kerry over 15 yrs ago and their manager was Pat Ó Shea (an ex basketball International). I agree it's boring to watch for the neutral and the winning fans prob don't mind but the keep ball is a hard watch.

It really is,, I mentioned a few days back I never had a huge issue with blanket defences,, aesthetically speaking,, but I find keep ball almost unwatchable,, almost any other sport on earth is more exciting than watching that.
