After trying to watch Dublin V Cavan, the word "turn over" word used yet and yet again, showing that Dublin may as well go and play rugby such is the fear of loosing posession, People will come on here and say they are great and professional and all that, and they are at the game they play, but they have football destroyed, I think even with a crowd in Croke Park this evening (where the game should not be played by the way as far as I am concerned) that game was as shocking to look at as any other Dublin game...rather than loose posession, they would kick the ball the whole way back down the field, again, fair dues its within the rules, but they are as boring as hell at this stage, the referee in the main "walking" around the field such was the time he had on his hands...I hope, for the sake of football, Mayo or Tipperary win, and if this crap Dublin are offering up continues and they continue to dominate as a result, the rules need looking at, as teams are genuinely going out to try and play against them (as Cavan did) but Dublin were more interested in just getting the ball, hang onto it for the 3/4 minutes it took to get into a shooting position (hoping to be fouled if possible)...if that is football, good luck, because I and I think may more are fed up with it..fair enough Dublin have it down to an "art" as people say, but the art is as boring, and over played now..thank God no other team has mastered it or we would be finished (Cork managed luckily to beat Kerry with it this year, and tried again unsucessfully against Tipp)....hopefully soon we might get two teams who will go out and decide to play football for the first time in years, because this is finishing football...Dublin winning 6 All Irelands possibly playing that type of "football"...let them off....hopefully football will be back in the years to come...

Yes I agree. Plus why do teams "tire" so much against Dublin?? Genuine question. Why or how can they be so much fitter?? There's old clips of AI finals on youtube from the 1930s and what strikes you are the low skill levels and how much kicking the ball on the ground was done, it was of its time though, but we aren't far off that type of skill level again. I think it's good enough for the GAA though. They better hope that Dublin fans still attend games because no one from other counties will be going to watch.

And they are not doing the same training over a long period. They have years of the highest quality training GAA money can buy in them. Look at the big Cavan men. They made no physical impression on Dublin. Dublin brushed by them. The genetic make up is the same around the country. The Dubs aren't polynesians. Obviously their conditioning is superior.
Cavan would hold their own with most teams 15-20 years ago. Not now.

I know county teams are in the gym now so they're obviously putting in as much effort if not more. So why are the results so different? What is the missing ingredient??

Dublin are involved in very negative play, consistent fouling too that goes unpunished, 15 men in their own half of the field time and time again, passing the ball backwards all the time too, but they play the game the right way if you listen to the expert pundits.

Agree with you, Dublin play the possession game and not kicking until 90% sure of scoring. They live of mistakes and their system makes it look easy. You don't have to be a brilliant footballer to play the game when players can actually walk with the ball. Numbers on jerseys now mean nothing.

The GAA were talking about splitting Dublin in two 20 years ago so maybe this is part of the overall plan. I think Melbourne has 8 AFL teams if they just had 1 you would get the same results Dublin are getting. If Dublin win the final by more then 11 westmeath will win the second best team in the land

Fairplayalways (Offaly) - Posts: 396 - 05/12/2020 21:33:42 What other word would you use instead of turnover to describe the changing of possession from one side to another. Well possession is 9/10ths of the way to win a game. Dublin dont at all have gaelic destroyed. And yes im a pedant and may (probably) have some mistake in here somewhere but its lose not loose... What would you do to change the rules anyway. Dublins brand is far better than most of the teams that cant get near beating them.

Gaelic football is clearly broken beyond fix and yes, it's as good as finished, one of the root causes to the problem is beyond doubt the Back Door system and the window dressing exercises that came with it, by coincidence or otherwise another root cause of the problem is the on demand / availability of finance to cover all eventualities, (but not to all counties) professionalism at the highest level in all walks of Dublin gaelic games that only the likes of Man. United or Barcelona etc, etc can equate to.
It can be argued that Dublin never needed the Back Door then so be it, but psychologically it was there should they ever need it.
It's now left to Mayo and Tipperary to save all our blushes especially if Tipp win's the game, if that's the case then it's all an illusion there really is no problem with gaelic football.
Another root cause is the print media in how they can convince some counties that they are stronger than most and it will all come good if they apply themselves a bit better, or to the weaker counties, stick with it and one day all this might be yours, bla, bla, bla.
As for our national broadcaster, well that's different argument for another day.
NB. It took covid 19 to suspend the Back Door system and reintroduce the straight knock out game, it may not have solved the problem but it surely showed us where most of the problems are.

We were the last team to beat Dublin in Championship, Mayo took them to replays and and had narrow defeats against them, also Kerry probably should have won the first game last year, This Dublin team are now the GOAT I think that is beyond doubt, the personnel may have changed but the ethos is the same, but the chasing bunch aren't that far behind, if Kerry hadn't slipped up in Munster we'd be in for a great semi final with Mayo and likely another cracking Dublin Kerry final, there's no need to get carried away, there are 3 or 4 teams who can give Dublin a good test, the way this awful year panned out that didn't happen, it's up to other teams to try and reach Dublins level, no good on here crying about it. Admire this great team they won't be around forever.

No fans from other countries will attend games? Stop with hyperbole please. Why wouldn't they? Games with Dublin v Mayo and Dublin v Kerry sell out or close to sell out in big games and that won't change when crowds are allowed back in.

Reminds me of the Harlem Globetrotters superb skill but..... but, you think if they played in a bog with Dubs wearing concrete shoes the game would be better? Some of us who love hurling have warned of this day. Take total sublime superior skill, athletism add it to brain dead simple game like Garlic football, throw in all the idiotic media driven rule changes, like black cards, the mark and the game is goosed.
