You know how I felt about that performance by him. Look all refs have rules they are supposed to follow. No matter what rule there is always going to be grey area and subjectivity. There are also going to be mistakes and things missed in the world's fastest field sport. However as long as the referee is consistent how he is applying the rules, interrupting the rules and even using his style there should be no complaint. How often do we see a ref get caught up in euphoria of a team coming back in a game and seem to put his shoulder to the wheel to help. I hope this time that his style will not favour or hurt either team.

Horgan was the Ref for '17 Final Galway v Waterford and he let the game flow but he will have to watch out for those sly slaps LK are tutored to do. katser (Galway) - Posts: 2554 - 04/12/2020 19:23:00 2318300 Link 0 |
Have a feeling Waterford will do it. By a point or two. CC2020 (Kilkenny) - Posts: 173 - 04/12/2020 20:02:08 2318319 Link 0 |

Of all people Fergal Horgan will not be dictated to on how to referee a big game, as we saw on the TV Programme which dealt with his very capable handling of the 2017 Final.

Actually let me tell you about 2017. I was sitting close to the end line among some very decent Galway supports. Before the throw with Horgan in the centre of the field two Waterford backs had their thighs redden with slaps from the same player in the old softening up process. The two umpires were watching and took no action. It emerged afterwards that Connors was seriously handicapped for the game. These Galway supporters were as surprised as we were. No one made a big deal about it because it would appear like sour grapes. Galway were the best team and deserved to win and we were never going to begrudge them. There supporters around me were a pleasure, were glad to win but did not take pleasure that it was us. Canuck (Waterford) - Posts: 3026 - 04/12/2020 22:36:54 2318368 Link 1 |
Ah I see. Hed be like an extra midfielder. Would probably work well the way the game is developing. Hed have the energy to play the role anyway and it would fit in with your forward set up as it is.

The idea that a team is tutored to do what you say is nothing short of pure paranoia. Why would anyone tutor a team to put themselves in danger of being put off, when there are cameras and video analysis all over the place. That a ludicrous statement. Anyway when a team are as good as those boys they don't need to do that. Who tutored Aussie to hit people so' How often has he been put off? BTW were you in Nowlan Park for the League Semi Finals in '19 and what you did you of the tackle that put Joe out of the game for months. You are also surprised that Waterford are back in a final- I am not. That day they went most of the second half of a hotly contested game with fourteen men and beat a Galway team that were 'bulling' for another cut off Limerick

You could be dead with the 'over analysis' Tipp have three All Irelands in the last ten years to our one and yet last when they were the reigning All Ireland Champions last Spring the night Lk played both Galway and Cork in the League a vast section of the GAA Programme was spent talking about Limerick and how to stop them and Tipp were hardly mentioned at all. Two very ordinary pick ups by Cian Lynch were analysed to the point of paralysis.

Few interesting selection decisions, for Waterford I suspect Neil Montgomery might the start ahead of Jake Dillon and will the fit again Shane Fives regain his spot? bostonredsox (Wexford) - Posts: 4368 - 06/12/2020 10:25:06 2319039 Link 0 |
Could be a great game, Waterford will have to bring their semi final second half display to have a chance. moc.dna (Galway) - Posts: 1212 - 06/12/2020 10:52:05 2319050 Link 0 |
After watching football yesterday can't wait to see a hurling game. I use to love watching football but my God it is so boring today. I think Limerick will win fairly comfortably in the end. Waterford have improved in every game this year. However they did get a favorable draw throughout the Munster and All Ireland championships. Limerick beat both Galway and Tipp who were considered with Limerick the favorites this year. Waterford had Cork, an injury rattled Clare and a rebuilding Kilkenny. Cahill has done a great job in his 1st year and Waterford will be better again next year. I think Limerick learned their lesson last year against Kilkenny to never look past an opponent and have their eyes firmly on the prize. Expecting a good game for 55-60 minutes with Limerick running out a winners. gatha (Kilkenny) - Posts: 318 - 06/12/2020 14:23:54 2319173 Link 0 |
Correct. But could also argue that Limerick's three missed goal chances well before Quaid's brilliance should have had Limerick well out of sight at that stage. Annoys me when people suggest that a missed chance in the last minute or a refs decision lost a game! Take our game against KK last year. It was our performance in the first 20 min that damaged us. Not Darragh O'Donovan's "missed" sideline in the last minute. That was never mentioned again by Limerick management or players. Oldtourman. I love when you smother BS with facts!! Darragh O Donovans sideline cut was not missed, it was deflected by a Kilkenny player over the end line and should have been a free or 65. It was a poor reflection on the sideline official and the referee. fainleog (Limerick) - Posts: 602 - 06/12/2020 19:34:53 2319431 Link 1 |
Shouldn't have been a sideline in the 1st place as Paul Murphy was fouled in the build up, yes 65 was missed but Limerick got the rub of the green over the 70 mins regards officiating including a very soft penalty.

Of course it was a 65 or a free, LOL in regard to rub of the green, Kilkenny should have been playing with fourteen players as a result of the neck tackle on Barry Nash. fainleog (Limerick) - Posts: 602 - 06/12/2020 20:53:11 2319486 Link 0 |
The fine tradition of Limerick posters blaming referees for there short comings lives on it seems. What do mean it was a 65 or a free, shouldn't have been a sideline in the 1st place as Paul Murphy was fouled in the phase of play that proceeded it. bostonredsox (Wexford) - Posts: 4368 - 06/12/2020 20:59:24 2319491 Link 0 |
What ever happened before is irrelevant, frees or who should have been sent off or not. If a ball is deflected over the end line it is a 65 meter shot. Or do we want now to decide which deflection's are 65 meter shots ? It was missed and we do know that it influenced the result. What way we will never know but different from what occurred for sure. The line's man was the one that missed it. He calls these and should over see the placing, the taking by standing behind the taker following the projectory of the ball. The referee looking at the play were the ball is going and the umpire the posts relative to the ball. There is no possible way if the lines man was doing his job that he could miss the ball getting deflected. Canuck (Waterford) - Posts: 3026 - 06/12/2020 21:15:21 2319505 Link 5 |

Disgraceful how LIT Gaelic Grounds and those in charge of the Limerick Hurlers treated the Galway Ladies Football team. baire (Galway) - Posts: 1849 - 07/12/2020 09:17:20 2319625 Link 0 |
