All Ireland Final - Who You Shouting For?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

When McEnroe played Borg in that amazing Wimbeldon final, I switched sides every other game in the final two sets. I didn't want it to end. Since then Federer, the greatest ever grass court player, has lost two classics, against Nadal and then against Djokovic.

And what has all that to do with the GAA? If we're in it, I'm for the Kingdom, especially in hurling. If we're not then I'm for our nearest neighbours: Limerick, Clare and Cork ... in that order. I particularly got a kick out of Limerick winning in hurling last year. It had been a long time in coming. A relief really. You can keep pulling your neighbour's legs about their losing repeatedly.

On Sunday, I know full well that there are plenty of people on the Limerick:Kerry border wishing us well. I have no such expectation further south- although plenty of us gave a few years in Cork city. Their stock is rising in football. We may not have it all our own way in Munster now. Good. Better for both teams, if we're honest. Better for football generally!

HAHA
As if Kerry in football and any of the other counties at the top arent spending huge money on their senior inter county sides.
Sure look at tipp and the build up to the hurling final and the list of all the backroom team for them
We are talking about an elite level of the sport. That requires extensive funding

For the good of football and because Kerry have always played proper football, even when the Ulster teams introduced this blanket defence, pulling and dragging and generally negative football, Kerry still kick passed the ball, played attacking football and are always a pleasure to watch. Dublin's main strength is their athleticism and obvious advantages in S&C, they are not as naturally gifted as the likes of Kerry or Mayo. The Kingdom are a team developed on the playing field, not in the gym. And I still remember how dirty and cynical the Dubs were in the 70's and 80's so it has to be Kerry for me.

Come on the Kingdom !"
Jesus the amount insecure Kerry posters cropping up is pathetic."
Almost as pathetic as pretending to be from another country...."]Speak of the devil!"]Still trying to convince us you're from Kildare? Or is it Antrim? Or Dublin?

They may be spending huge amounts of money, but they are raising the funds themselves. That is the amateur ethos in play. We can't all be like Limerick and Dublin.

Pike, I can assure you, next to no one I know in Newcastle West, Abbeyfeale, Glin, Templegaltine, Athea etc is wishing ye well!!
That's not to say that no one wants ye to win, but no one I have met does, that's for sure! Especially GAA people.
Ever since "flag gate" with Garvey's Centra in NCW 10 or so years back, West limerick is no friend of Kerry, I can promise you that!

Neither of them!! But i do think Dubs will more than lightly win it. Do the five in the row and then collapse like a house of cards...I say this because i believe their be their collective appetite and drive to win will dwindle, not necessarily because they will become a poorer team football wise. There will be some imminent retirements announced too i suspect.

Dublin.

One reason is that them winning it won't affect my emotions one way or the other as it's a sham.

But the main reason is because of stuff like this:

https://www.irishnews.com/sport/2017/06/08/news/john-mcentee-time-the-gaa-took-its-head-out-of-the-sand-over-drugs-issue-1048432/

To quote: "Three inter-county footballers who have been found in breach of anti-doping rules ".

And 2 of them are from the same county.

Behave. As a Dub, I say to you please do not support us if you really believe what you are implying.

Don't forget Kimmage has made pointless allegations at Dublin as well.

And is an opinion piece that offers nothing substantial, only vague insinuations hinting at the shadow of corruption "somewhere".

Looks all the world like something the writer churned out to meet a deadline, and I'd say he'd be shocked to see it getting trotted out two years later as 'proof' of anything.

And they weren't just allegations.

Joking aside I married a dub and for that reason I wouldn't mind seeing them win, on the other hand I could have a good 6 months slagging off the in-laws if Kerry were to win, hmmmm. Also as a Meath man I have a dna dislike of dubs football. But if any team deserves to win 5 in row then it is this dubs team."
Why do people think they reinforce their arguments by what would once have been considered blasphemous and vulgar expressions ? it beats me! Sports columnists ,ex players, pundits pepper their contributions with such words and phrases. I always consider it to betray a sad lack of vocabulary . Anyway let's cheer for sport on Sunday that the long traditions that exist between Kerry and Dublin going back to 1892 the days of the great
J P (champion) O Sullivan be honoured ,and thanks to all on both sides who give so much for our enjoyment

You mean Limericks dominance of hurling that saw us waiting 45 yrs to win our second all ireland since WW2.
Get a life.

the article was just one of the first ones i got on a google search.

have re-read it now and i don't think it mentions corruption or makes insinuations. while it may be an opinion piece the incidents at the heart of it are fact.

anyway, don't want to derail this thread.
