I have never been to Puc , but it is a fantastic stadium on tv. galwayford (Galway) - Posts: 2614 - 08/01/2019 21:07:19 2156183 Link 0 |
last post on this. one other thing he forgot to mention, was that the match was on a saturday at 2pm. now it is easy to say 'sure why would that matter, you are a supporter or not' but lets be realistic, you would need to have left most of wexford before 9am to make sure you got to the match.9am on a saturday morning?and people working, other commitments, and then people wonder why people didnt go? this was as much a protest vote by wexford people as anything. as a worker in the bar trade,i know the value of big matches to the local economy (and to my own pocket),i am not advocating the building of stadia in the middle of nowhere a la nfl stadiums in america with 30k car parking stadia but at least build a stadium of that magnitude where it suits many counties. the gaa badly dropped the ball here and unfortunately,we are all going to pay for it. perfect10 (Wexford) - Posts: 3929 - 09/01/2019 09:14:47 2156214 Link 0 |
Has Tom Ryan the former GAA director of finance a case to answer here ? this happened on his watch ! Likewise when the Galway county board came to him in 2017 about financial irregularities why did he do nothing ? devrandom (Galway) - Posts: 77 - 09/01/2019 10:02:44 2156219 Link 2 |
Good point, only something he can answer, I wouldn't hold my breath. When two leading officials, one from Croke Park & one from Cork go public on national media quoting two completely different figures, a discrepancy of just €24 Million Euro & nobody comes out for weeks afterwards to clarify the issue, I think we can take it that it is all being swept under the carpet in the hope that it will all be forgotten about. Transparency, accountability, credibility & leadership non existent.

Tottenham Hotspurs new stadium is being further delayed. Shock shock what will be done- an enquiry? Anyway Cork city needs a good stadium and they have one now. It is growing and it has a bright future. galwayford (Galway) - Posts: 2614 - 09/01/2019 22:51:23 2156325 Link 0 |
There are some fantastic posts on here, cuchulainn35 (Armagh) - Posts: 1688 - 10/01/2019 09:22:30 2156342 Link 0 |
I can assure you Daniel Levy in Tottenham will be ordering an enquiry, even though it is their own money. Mind you, that is the money that is generally spent the most carefully which is part of the problem in Irish society in general.

How do you know that there will be an enquiry into Spurs stadium?
galwayford (Galway) - Posts: 2614 - 10/01/2019 22:19:07 2156497 Link 0 |
Well how do I know? I don't. But I know 1 thing for sure, Daniel Levy doesn't just hand out money willy nilly to anybody, and if there is wrong-doing on the part of a contractor, whoever priced the job, etc it won't come out of his pocket.

you dont need to know daniel levy or anybody to know, when money is coming out of your own business, wallet, etc you spend it more carefully, ask more questions, try to get better value, and above all dont like seeing it squandered. but when it is somebody elses money,be it gaa,tax payer, etc it is a different story. perfect10 (Wexford) - Posts: 3929 - 11/01/2019 10:35:51 2156549 Link 0 |
You are wrong on this as Spurs didn't agree a fixed price with the main contractor, they felt they could do it cheaper managing it themselves but it's now looking like it will cost 50% more than originally planned and with massive delays.

What is Mr Storey's response to this revelation? Look I am not condoning overspend, I just am saying it happens in all sports. Proper auditing will help deal with it in the GAA. In Ireland though, there is lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of moaners- especially in relation ot Gaelic football and the Irish language and culture. "The grass is always greener on the other side" type of thing. Slán

I think you're the moaner trying to force Irish down our necks when we've been speaking Hiberno English for 400 years+ in most parts of Ireland. Keep sport and the Irish language separate. Look how it's been used in the North by certain people pushing a Republican agenda

To my previous poster from Limerick, the Irish language should be respected by all, we don't have that respect. cuchulainn35 (Armagh) - Posts: 1688 - 14/01/2019 13:14:20 2157049 Link 2 |
Cork airport was the same. Shannon & Cork airports were to be made independent and debt free so when Cork were doing their upgrade/expansion they went to town on it running up a huge debt then pointing to the small print of the agreement with the DAA saying they would be left debt free. the DAA eventually took over the debt. Gold plating I believe is the expression........if it costs enough then they have to use it! I wonder was the same logic at play????

So the question is who is paying for it? cuchulainn35 (Armagh) - Posts: 1688 - 15/01/2019 10:13:54 2157220 Link 0 |
The GAA should follow proper financial guidelines and audits. So should TG4. But look at RTE and the massive salaries they pay the likes of Joe Duffy, Ryan Tubridy and Marion Finucane. Is this justified. Níl sé. galwayford (Galway) - Posts: 2614 - 15/01/2019 12:31:01 2157266 Link 2 |
I'm from a small county, we have to budget just like all other counties, Cork have the big stadium ( white elephant) and the rest have to pick up the bill cuchulainn35 (Armagh) - Posts: 1688 - 15/01/2019 13:04:57 2157285 Link 1 |
Shhh......nobody club is going to be out of pocket for PUC......shhhh......just like all good things in Ireland, sweep it under the carpet and say nothing.
