Anyone think it is ridiculous that Monaghan championship is only starting this weekend and if you are to get to a final it doesn't finish up well into October? Dublin senior championship has started before Monaghans and they won the All-Ireland. I think more should be done for trying to get most of the matches played during the summer and not in September/October time when many players now are starting college or new jobs and have to sort out lifts and other things. Anyone else feel like this or have a solution for what could be done to change this?

Blayney v Doohamlet in Doohamlet is the game of the weekend in Intermediate and Scotstown v Inniskeen in Senior. Both mouthwatering ties.
Junior games:
Currin v Blackhill Aghabog Emmet v Eire Óg Oram v Scotstown Tyholland v Rockcorry
Aghabog Emmet v Eire Óg probably the hardest to call.

Pretty sure the competition being played now and into October is to help the championship winners carry their momentum into the ulster club championships at each level.
As a player I agree, it's a pain that it's dragged out this far but I guess if you win the championship it's nice not to have a 5 week gap before the ulster club starts.

Think Corduff and Aughnamullen might do ok...Corduff will fancy their chances more. Intermediate is going to be very tight to call - Clones and Doohamlet both playing catch up now and whoever gets the 3rd spot might come down to who wins that game in the final round. Cremartin carrying their league form through by the looks of it - they could be hard to stop.

Going back to above msg I totally agree with it being a wide open championship in senior ,Inniskeen answered alot of critics in the county tonight with their performance, they showed scotstown no respect just stood up and attacked them ,there fitness and pace up front and direct running is great to watch and must come from fresh new management on board, on scotstowns showing apart from rory beggan he was only county player stood up ,when Darren Hughes doesn't perform scotstown doesn't either and all the talk of scotstown and their 3 and 4 teams it's only the old established player that's carrying the can ,standard of referee and officials very poor, as for respect shown to fellow countymen very disappointing the way some Inniskeen players where hit and targeted, but Inniskeen stood up ,the question is can they carry it on,come the fontenoys.

And we are off!!
Made it to 4 senior championship games at the weekend. Corduff v Ballybay to start with. Ballybay will feel hard done by here, R Wylie was taken out late 3 times and resulted in a yellow card just. Jap got hit late and was a yellow card. A black card would of been massive in this game but it did not come until the last minute when the ref had no choice. Advantage wasn't played in the most crucial play of the game which meant Ballybay could not score from the resulting free of the black. Corduff playing the usual 15 man back football. Was a tough watch with plenty of abuse coming from the stands. Ballybay missing 3/4 men so they would feel they done well with a draw.
Latton v Aughnamullen Aughnamullen put up a great battle here. Really did not expect it to be honest. Expected Latton to run out 6/7 point winners at ease. A draw would of been a very fair result here and would of been a great result for Aughnamullen. This side of the championship is going to be a cracker. Saw loads of Aughnamullen lads at the Corduff game and they will be chomping at the bit to get at Corduff in a local derby. A lot of possible teams to come out of this side of the group.
Clontibret v Maghercloone Maghercloone were very disappointing here. Expected a better fight and the wet day to suit them, did not happen. Clontibret looked strong up the middle. McDonnell, Boyle, Lavelle, Hughes, McManus, D Mone being the spine of the team and a lot of youth and pace built around them. Tough week on the Clontibret players with a death within the club, really looked like Clontibret wanted it bad yesterday. Clontibret may not be gone too far just yet. Young lads getting on well. Maghercloone were without G Doogan and Paudie mcMahon but do not think they would of made that big of difference. Their goalie gifted Clontibret 1-3/4 which cannot happen at this level.
Inniskeen v Scotstown Big shock here. Some result for Inniskeen beating a strongly fancied Scotstown team with 8 county players. Inniskeen by far the better team and should of won by 7/8 points. Penalty missed by inniskeen and a great chance from not far out missed also. Jack was quiet, a lot of pressure on him in my opinion. Can just imagine the digs and verbals he may be getting on the field. Still don't think Scotstown will be far away come business end. Can not rule them out with such a strong team. Inniskeen will take this win and march into their next game. Woods was brilliant, strong man on the ball. Strong panel of men on the line for Inniskeen, some money be thrown out there but look it may work.
What was everyone else's take on the games? Did not make it to any Intermediate or Junior games.

Were you at the game? How many times were Ballybay players hit late? How many players should of got blacks or yellows? Should advantage not of been played when Ballybay got the ball away when P Keenan pulled the Ballybay man down? I was a neutral at it and thought Ballybay didn't get the fair treatment.
I am all about a hard hitting contest, absolutely love to see a good hard battle but do it fair and not off the ball.

Felt the same, thought the ref was quick with his whistle for a ballybay attack that was in on goal and very slow with it otherwise when ballybay men were being swarm tackled. Corduff are getting the most out of themselves so a tip of the cap to them, but I think they're getting plenty of help from the man in the middle. Likely be the same for the whole championship.

On what basis are lads thinking Corduff are getting help from a 16th man? Is it systemic and is so whats behind it? or just the odd game? As for Jack taking verbals from Inniskeen, they would want to take a look at their own team sheet before saying too much about nomadic players.

Have saw a few games now where they have gotten away with murder compared to the opposing teams. I am not saying they are a dirty team or that but they do a lot of the ball and late and get away with it. Would Corduff having referees on the line be anything to do with this? Adding pressure to the referee in charge of the game?
As for the mention about Inniskeens nomadic players I totally agree. But I just feel with the whole McCarron transfer it will bring some scandal to the field. I am not agreeing with it but it is just going to happen. As I said Scotstown will still be there come the business end. Once they click it will be dangerous for everyone else.

Former national head off referees, current head of referees in Monaghan and Monaghan's current main inter county referee all part of Corduff's backroom team. Not suggesting any kind of conspiracy or anything but it is bound to add presure to referees when you have them shouting at you along the line

Any team with "8" county men shouldn't be far away from an ulster club never mind a Monaghan title.. embarrassing result for scotstown yesterday but fair play to inniskeen showed them no respect and have got a proven winner on the line and not a bluffer like before…
