Called it before a ball was pucked. Year or two in the Christy Ring would do that team no harm.

We'll never know. Yes we were cruising nicely until that Red Card even after allowing Dublins early goal but again we'll never know. Sigh.

We could be busy enough this summer. Starting in Mullingar next Sunday.

Feeling sore this morning after yesterday still hard to believe we are out in May. Hard to know where Galway hurling goes from here. Complete overhaul is needed but are the hurlers in the county? Hard know

Limerick, Clare, Cork, Waterford & Kilkenny man for man have better hurlers and management teams than Galway. Quality isn't there I'm afraid, too reliant on three of four hurlers, i.e. Daithi, Mannion's and Whelan all of whom have a lot of hurling played and won't get any easier when you are losing for those lads.

Get down to the cousin in Limerick and see how it should be done!"
Hard to believe the the Galway Hurlers season is over, but some say the signs have been there, that all is not right.

I expected them to get to the AI Semi Finals this year tbh, and for the Dublin Hurlers to be in their position at this stage.

Not sure Henry S. will stay on for another year - perhaps a new manager is what is needed because the talent is there imo.

Hard luck, but I am sure Galway Hurlers will be back a lot stronger for this, next year.

the biggest joke about yesterday is playing hurling in Salthill. its about time hurling is moved back to athenry. Would have twice the crowd there. could put up a couple of makeshift stands like they use in the sportsground and would be ideal. close to the motorway so very little traffic, in the center of hurling heartland. Look at what ennis does to the clare team. that is worth a lot.

The 2nd biggest joke is the amount of little lads in the galway team. What do we expect. About 6 lads that look 11stone and couldnt hang a light bulb without a step ladder. Its time the under 20s and minors management start looking at Limerick and the 2017 team and seeing that its lads who are like johnny glynn, joseph cooney, gearoid mc, niall burke, etc, they win you all irelands. Not evan niland and ronan glennon. we need an under 20 team of 10 lads who are 6"3 or above and hopefully 2 or 3 can develop each year.

Yes Clare are used to long holidays both in hurling and football so you should know. Show us your football medals - oh wait ye don't have any but I think ye did get a runners-up medal in 1917! lol

In fairness, you are right. Galway hurlers have a superb record with 5 All Irelands made even more impressive by the fact that for decades ye had a free pass to the All Ireland semi final great stuff.

Football doesnt interest me in the slightest, not my sport and more to the point has nothing to do with Galway failing to get out of Leinster in the hurling championship.

I can't hang a light bulb without a step ladder but I digress lol! Speaking about "big players", some people say that bringing back Johnny Glynn didn't work but I disagree. For the little time he had in the games where he was introduced as a sub, I think he did very well e.g. almost scoring a goal against KK and generally causing a bit of havoc, catching high ball and laying it off / scoring v Antrim and catching high ball / being pulled down rugby style by a couple of Dublin players for a free yesterday which dislocated his shoulder. Whatever about problems elsewhere in the team / management, Johnny Glynn wasn't one of them as only he (and the likes of Joe Canning previously) could catch high ball / do something positive with it consistently and other teams know that.

Lad this is a hurling forum, who cares about football. Clare have more international rugby caps than galway if you are going down the road of comparing other sports. Keep it to the hurling lad.

Relax will you Clare & Galway rarely trade insults like this we know our History we are a small County less than 1/2 population of your own County, Football apart from Ennis and a bit in Shannon is mostly drawn for the West and a bit from North Clare they have done very well to compete at higher level for so long {before you say it very little silver wear}

I think its fair to say that Galway have not won as much as you would expect with the great underage talent they produce
do you think Henry has added anything surely plenty of people in Galway to step up

If 'the talent' was there, do you know of any reasons why Henry Shefflin wouldn't be picking it? Imo, real talent picks itself anyway, and won't be dropped once confirmed. Galway have had a dearth of real talent in recent seasons, with only the 2018 and 2022 under20s cutting any mustard, and we've loads of the '18 under20s in the current senior panel. Too many of them?

If you don't have lads to catch high ball inside then why play that way? Clare and Limerick generally don't lump long ball in on their inside forwards. Cork won 3 AIs around 20 years ago with a tiny inside line.

I was in Salthill yesterday. I see complaints about the stadium, the wind factor, age profile of our squad, and many other things. But , the one thing that stood out for me was our complete lack of pace. Dublin cut through us repeatedly in the first half when they had to keep ball in hand against the wind. In the second half they only had to keep tipping points over from around halfway to keep us at arm's length. We looked very heavy legged and not sharp at all.

I didnt mean he wasnt picking the talent available but is he getting the best out of them lads.???

Only those close to the ground there would know perhaps, but Galway should be making the Leinster SH Final, and I have no doubt they will next year. This year just didnt seem to click for them for one reason or another.

More often than not, Galway will beat Dublin hurlers, in Galway.

The last time we had a manager vacancy after O'Neill left, it took 6 months before it was filled. The focus at the time was on getting a manager from within the county but nobody wanted it/ was deemed suitable. Turned into a right old circus until Henry was offered it and was appointed. We could be back in the same scenario again if Henry walks.

Fionn you obviously don't spend much time on this thread, for if you did you would know that Katser is a wind up merchant. Dublin fully deserved their win yesterday, and I hope they beat Kilkennny in the Leinster final. However even had Galway somehow managed to win yesterday, I wouldn't have held up too much hope of them beating Kilkenny in the final, not to mention Cork would then have beaten them out the gate in an All Ireland quarter final. I fear that Galway hurling is in for a long spell in the doldrums, look how long it took Cork to get seriously competitive again, and whether we like it or not, the Limerick way seems to be the only way to go these days. I genuinely hope that Cork with their speed merchants take Limerick this year as that will then give everybody else hope, either way time for a serious root and branch overhaul of Galway hurling.

I think they're all doing their best, so I've no sense of frustration about it. With Limerick setting the standards they're setting, in many respects it's more comforting to be way off the level required, than to be 'awarded' a glass half full certificate by Cusack and Tyrrell, as Waterford were after yesterday's game. You've no business taking on the jolly green giants with just a glass half full.

We've probably strayed down the rabbit hole of trying to play possession through the lines hurling like every other hurling (and football) team in the country, when we don't have the players or the pace to make it work right now. Like football, hurling is getting uglier to watch with the excessive handpassing and overcarrying. It's hilarious to listen to Tyrrell voicing on Dublin's recent goal v KK, describing the 'beautiful handpassing movement'. Effective it may be, but it sure as hell ain't beautiful.
