Replying To Blackspot09:  "But this guy in 30s didn't play football this year and played only a handful of games last year so it's a ridiculous suggestion"
My comment was a general comment and I was not referring to any individual. I do agree as a general comment that there are guys being proposed on this site who are not even the best players in their clubs I wish the best of luck to all players who commit and the O'Byrne Cup gives guys a chance to display their talent.

Nipper is just gone past the 30 mark
Had a bad injury last 2 years , Hes like an advanced version of Conlon
Quick , kicks off both feet , worth a gamble in a Competition like OBC

Should be using lads who weren't on the league or Champ panel for this competition IMHO

For god sake would ye stop on about Nipper and all the lads over 30 coming into Panal
Andy has done a great job creating an environment where lads can improve and has competition for places
This is div one and only experimenting should be with prospects and positional changes not lads past there best

Age shouldn't determine whether a person makes the panel or not

Colm O Rourke was 37 when he hung up his Boots
Joe Cassells was nearly 40 when he lifted Sam

and if you come back to me with that was years ago , Bernard Brogan was 36-37 last year!!
so at the start of Dublins 5 in a row he would of been 31-32

We should be getting the best players in and tailoring their fitness needs
so in that case maybe Nipper wouldn't be a bad shout , or Davy Larkin

Once they produce on the pitch I don't care what age they are!!

Your missing the point that the lads you mentioned above played country from a younger age not brought in from the cold in their 30s.

David larkin had chances for meath years back and didn't quite make the grade. The posters above have said enough about Nipper and his playtime in last 2 years.

A few experienced lads would be good to have around the squad. Good brains to bring off the bench to see the game out

So someone had to play minor to play up to a certain age??
I haven't heard anything so preposterous in my life!!
What about Minors who burnt out too quickly , too much too young
Nipper was one of the best minors I ever seen , David Devereux the only one Ive seen better

Our current player of the year didn't play underage for the county but he still made it
when given a proper chance!

Nipper also did play for the Seniors a few years ago so now does that mean he can get in????

Where did I mention minors? I'm saying the players mentioned Colm, Joe, Bernard brogan etc are mainstays of the panels they were on and can't compare Larkin and nipper to them or use them as a rationale to call older lads in?

Larkin was tried out in his early 20s...this might sound incredible to you but most players peak between 27-32. Maybe, just maybe, he might have improved his early 20s!

1. D.Yorke (MeathHill)
2. R.Clarke (Duleek)
3. B Conlon (Simonstown)
4. D Toner (Curraha)
5. G McCoy (Dunboyne)
6. E Lynch (Longwood)
7. S Reilly (Moylagh)
8. B Menton (Don/Ash)
9. D Keoghan (Rathkenny)
10. J O'Connor (Curraha)
11. D Campion (Skyrne)
12. J Scully (Oldcastle)
13. J Morris (Nobber0
14. T O'Reilly (Wolfe Tones)
15. M Costello (Dunshauglin)

Team named for sunday. Usually wouldnt really look into O'Byrne cup too much but definitely this year its gonna be very hard to blood new/fringe players in the league seeing as its our first time back in Div 1so would assume these new or fringe players will have to make an impact in OBC.

Have never seen Yorke but has a good reputation and apparently very good kickouts so hopefully he could be the answer to our gk problems.

Very new back 6 on saturday, obviously very little will change in our defence from last year come first round of the league. Conlon at 3 is an interesting one, he usually loves power running up the field from either centre back or midfield so will like to see how he gets on in a more disciplined roll.

Donal at midfield is another one to look at, our marquee player we could do with playing him everywhere. Hes our best runner and a great tackler plus he reads breaking ball brilliantly so this could suit him.

Very young front 6 i think the oldest is 23 which is exciting. I'd love to see campion kick on this year and make 11 his own. i really like him as a player.
I think Morris and Costello are very promising but dont see them making the team for league or championship this year but definitely in the next few years so no harm having them involved.
Big year for Thomas O'Reilly, such a skillful lad with a lot of class. hes been around the panel a few years now but has never cemented his place. Maybe a bit inconsistant but still on 23 i think.

No doubt he has improved, but given that he has not been near a panel or talked about joining in the intervening years I see no reason to call these players back in. A good club player but he is hardly pulling up trees either. You have successful teams out there moving on past older players (brogans, even philly McMahon for Dublin, moran for mayo) and yet here we are looking to bring in players who have never made the grade or threatened to make the grade despite the younger generation of footballers making their mark and driving meath on

In an ideal world not much would change with our back 6. But Lavin is injured, hear Harnan is injured too and with no Shane McEntee or Adam Flanagan. So that could be 3 different defenders than our first choice 6. Gallagher, McGill, Ronan Ryan you'd think is the full back line with Lavin out. Half back line is absolutely up for grabs.

i didnt know Lavin and Harnan were injured, hopefully not for too long.
If both were missing for early parts of the league, i reckon Ronan Ryan for Lavin, Keoghan back into halfback line and either Brian Conlon, Niall Kane or G McCoy into back into half back line too alongside James McEntee. I couldnt see more than 1 or 2 changes.

I see on HS that Conor Bradley has transferred from Ramor United to Dunboyne. Is he a possibility for the Meath panel?

His father played with Meath so maybe.

Never like seeing likes of Keoghan playing these games. Presumably McEntee is getting us ready to really hit the league running.

At least this kind of lad has a Meath connection, no problem with that.

Looked at the team we played last year in the first weekend in December. Colgan, Lavin, Menton, Ronan Ryan, James Mc, Keoghan, McCoy, Tobin, Flanagan, Campion, McMahon, Conlon, Newman all started. At that point we played 7 established starters from the year before. Ronan Ryan, McCoy, Conlon all become more involved after. Much more experimental this year with only 3 or 4 established starters. Hopefully we have 3 or 4 lads make their claim for the league like we did with Campion, Devine, J Conlon, Ronan Ryan, N Kane, McCoy did last year

Good point. In fairness, it's not fair for new lads to be introduced into a totally experimental team - they are better served being trialed as part of a team with a solid spine of experience.

Does anyone know of any other players currently on panel? Presumably there'll be a very different team for the second match.
