Kilmacud Crokes 2-9 Dunshaughlin Royal Gaels 0-5

Royal Gaels fell short in the AIB Leinster LGFA Senior Club Championship semi-final in Stillorgan today, going down 2-09 to 0-05 after tame display against Provincial holders Kilmacud Crokes.

The Dublin champions got off the mark quickly with a point from the boot of Niamh Cotter from a free, cancelled out by a free from Ciara Gorman on 8 minutes. Cotter pointed from another free and Meadhbh Byrne slung one over from play on 12 minutes. Dunshaughlin had a fairly strong breeze in the first half but did not turn it to their advantage with the wide count mounting. Cotter struck again from play and it was quickly followed up by a point from Aoife Kane for the home side on 20 minutes.

Ailbhe Davoren made it 5-2 a minute later before Niamh Gallogly made a great run and pointed on 25 minutes. Michelle Davoren extended the lead for Kilmacud at 27 minutes and then Ailbhe Davoren added to her tally cutting through the Dunshaughlin rearguard with a well taken goal on 30 minutes. Cotter rounded off the half for Kilmacud pointing another free going in at the break 1-07 to 0-03.

Dunshaughlin started well in the second half, piling on pressure and were rewarded with a penalty within 3 minutes of the restart. Unfortunately for Ciara Gorman, her effort was superbly saved by Derbhla Gower who managed to also keep the rebound out of her net. Niamh Gallogly pointed from play to give Dunshaughlin hope on 35 mins. Kilmacud were also awarded a penalty on 10 minutes and Niamh Cotter made no mistake putting Michelle O'Hare the wrong way and calmly slotting it to the net. Kilmacud were firmly in the driving seat Two more points followed in quick succession before a super point by Dunshaughlin's Grace Summerville on 45 minutes closed the gap, 2-09 to 0-05.

As time ticked on both sides found it difficult to break down each other’s defences. Several wides from Dunshaughlin seemed to signal the inevitable and even the introduction of Ella Moyles, Niamh McEntee and Bronagh Sheridan did not move Kilmacud from their winning position.
