Flanagan deserves a suspension you never hit someone there but this growing vibe again that Limerick are a dirty team is annoying. If you are at a match the abuse and man handling the likes of Gillane and Hegarty have to put up with is off the chart and if they retaliate in anyway the stadium goes beserk. Look it, Flanagan deserves a suspension but the problem is that AFAIK there is no system or process to review and highlight incidents for retroactive punishments Yadse (Limerick) - Posts: 74 - 04/02/2025 22:06:09 2589525 Link 1 |
Let's call a spade a spade here, Flanagan has done nothing to help this vibe either has he?

How do you mean "there is no system or process to review and highlight incidents for retroactive punishments"? There is, and almost certainly Flanagan's incident will be reviewed and he will be given at least a two game suspension! Irrespective of what county the culprit is from, that type of carry on has absolutely no place in the game of hurling! foreveryoung (USA) - Posts: 2142 - 05/02/2025 17:25:36 2589639 Link 1 |
As you can see here Fitzy some people will never like us anyway regardless of what we do or what's done to us. Didn't a very similar incident happen in the championship match in Pairc Ui Chaomh last summer to 1 of our defenders off the ball and there wasn't a whisper about it from pundits.

Cork are no Angels either. Three times in the last eight years Cork have had two men sent in Championship games.

Look your crowd can talk. In three Championship games in the past eight seasons they have had two men put off against Waterford in 17 against last year and against Clare in 20 and of course Donoghue also got the line against Clare last year.

But why will it be reviewed? Did a referee view the game and spot it and decide it warranted action? And maybe see some other things also? AFAIK that's not how it works An individual spotted it, posted on social media, and hence it was reviewed Don't you see how dangerous that is? Now you could have fans scanning video of games to draw attention to particular incidents but maybe not others Again, if there was a systematic review of games where incidents led to action I would be fine with that but this is different It opens up a can of worms Yadse (Limerick) - Posts: 74 - 06/02/2025 04:20:10 2589707 Link 0 |
What Seamus did was wrong. It doesn't matter if he was provoked or not. If he gets a retrospective ban then he and we will have to suck it up. Simple as that. I do agree with your point about the GAA opening a can of worms though, if unverified fan/phone footage is accepted as evidence, to retrospectively take action against a player. Any phone video can be easily edited by most people if they wish (and I'm not suggesting anything of the sort in the case of Seamus Flanagan) but you can easily cut out bits that don't suit your agenda, you can speed up portions of videos to make hits look harder, you can slow down bits to make it look like fella's lined up a tackle or hit from a long way off, when in fact we know most tackles in hurling are split second actions. All of this is even before you consider what Artificial Intelligence (AI) can do. If the GAA go about retrospective actions based on phone footage then they would have to allow footage to be provided by opposition in defence of a player or circumstance. If this happens you could expect intercounty back room teams to increase by 15 people straight away one with a camera on filming/following each player on the field which could be used in their defence if required. Its madness LimerickandProud (Limerick) - Posts: 114 - 06/02/2025 13:30:48 2589750 Link 1 |
The other way of looking at it of course is that is this footage hadn't surfaced he'd have gotten away with it..

I just think it's a dangerous slippery slope that we suffered from before where you have many posting and highlighting Limericks sins and this "what else would you expect from Limerick" narrative while everyone else apparently doesn't put a foot out of place. Hegarty suffered more than anyone else in this regard a couple of years back where he was seen as the pantomime villain then the media/pundits jumped on board and then even the referees reffed him differently imo in that it was ok to shout abuse and swing and drag off him but if he put a foot out of place every one would be baying for a card and saying he is always at it. I remember that time against Clare when he was bearing down on goal and I think it was Adam Hogan hit him twice with the hurl before pulling him down and then stood over hego so he couldn't get up. Hego got up and sent hogan flying and the Clare crowd nearly lost their lives looking for a red card. There was no booking for denying a goal scoring chance, that's just one example.

Don't they any one in limerick will deny what seamus did was completely stupid..if he's suspended then it will be accepted but Gaa could go down avery dangerous road by allowing phone footage from supporters..RTÉ are leaving themselves open now to showing all sorts after last weekend..I saw an incident from another league game very similar to seamus but this wasn't mentioned..I guess Fitzy01 and others it's a sign of how much we are disliked and I've said it before, bring it on..we must be doing some things right!! Discipline has/is becoming a major problem on and off the pitch for limerick.. John K needs to nip it in the bud very fast... mick2007 (Monaghan) - Posts: 566 - 06/02/2025 16:30:09 2589782 Link 2 |
Look at Cork and they have not been champions for twenty years. They have had several players put off over the past ten years. They're is always more pressure put on the more successful teams.

No time for trial by phone videos. What seamus did was wrong but he would have got away with it only for that. Not saying thats right but thats what happens in games all over the country and not a word about it because no one seen the incidents. On the point of peple not liking Limerick its nothing personel when Kilkenny were flying they were the ones being picked on its all because ye are so strong people trying to knock ye.All counties are guilty of foul play as far as im concerned including my beloved Wexford.

Very cutting remark from another Galway poster..if that's all you take from a very good game of hurling then so be it.delighted again with that limerick result, with only possibly 5 definite starters today..Murphy outstanding at number 4 and no one in limerick only management would have played him there..byrnes and half back line very good..cian seems to play better at midfield but the options here are huge if we include o neill to come back..forwards got some great scores with o Connor and Donovan doing outstanding work..reidy did what reidy does..tipp seem to be going in right direction and have a few central positions sorted if Cahill sticks with them.mc Carthy is flying for his first year at senior but he has been flying in freshers to with ul..a long way to go in the year but it looks like being very interesting.. Maybe it was a bit loose but some of the scores and skill on show for Limerick Tipp was incredible Yadse (Limerick) - Posts: 74 - 10/02/2025 04:45:59 2590330 Link 0 |
