Think it's too early to forecast next year, as we have all Ireland final on Sunday week. I do think Cork will be competitive for several years to come, as we have had successful under 20 teams, and players like Cunningham, Mullins, and Power to blend in. Good luck to recent under 20 hurling captain Ben O' Connor on his impending debut with Ireland under 20 rugby team!

12 of the Limerick starting team bar Cathal O'Neill, WOD and David Reidy started the 2018 All Ireland. It's remarkable to have keep such a core group of players together over that period. Ultimately with so much mileage on the clock injuries have started to take their toll. In saying that Limerick are possibly in a better position going into next year with the likes of Cathal O'Neill, Adam English and Shane O'Brien gaining valuable experience this season. Pace in our full and half back lines is what we will need and the age profile of our 6 backs is not young. Barry Nash was a huge loss. If Limerick can bottle the hurt they will come back stronger next year. Cork and Limerick rivalry will be huge over the next few years. Clare's age profile isn't great with some of the their key men the wrong side of 30. Tipp should come good at some stage having won a few All Ireland minors. journeyman (Limerick) - Posts: 141 - 09/07/2024 15:00:53 2558057 Link 1 |
Tomsmith here Journeyman I am afraid your opeining remarks that 12 of this well beaten Team is in the mix since 2018, that says it all. Your six backs are old for the modern game and old backs do not win All Irelands . I am sorry to see this fine team so well beaten, but lets face it Cork were very good . tomsmith (Cavan) - Posts: 3982 - 09/07/2024 15:47:13 2558063 Link 1 |
Similarly.

Hardly well beaten 2 points they had the chances to at least draw it, Cork did much like in PUC they went long because Harnody especially is great in air he has tortured us for years all there half forwards are good in air & very athletic Cork have fairly turned there year around will be dominant again for manty the year tons of underage talent. Limerick wont be out of reckoning next years id say favourites already clooney (Clare) - Posts: 960 - 09/07/2024 16:34:38 2558078 Link 0 |
Almost, but not quite, as good as cavan were that famous day in new York when they beat the mighty kingdom, the only all Ireland ever played abroad.

No way is this the end of this Limerick team. It took a performance for the ages from Cork to bring them down. I still would not have great confidence playing them next year. They will be there at the top for at least another two or three years. But others are catching up with them now. findra (Cork) - Posts: 41 - 09/07/2024 17:40:52 2558086 Link 0 |
Only because the cute Kerry boys were kicking from the elevated pitching mound. True story. Ask Tom Smith..

Galway have won alot more all ireland minors, including 4 in a row only a few years ago, and it hasn't done them much good at Senior.

Just a note Limerick went to toe with those Cork Under teams for the years they were winning Reasonable under age talent there too

Kilkenny won at least two of them with an older defence. Have you checked the age profile of THE Cork Team. At least Mark Coleman, Darragh Fitzgibbon, Seamus Harnedy. Pat Horgan, Declan Dalton and Tim O Mahony were all there in 18 and a number of the subs.

The great thing from a Limerick perspective next year is that the pressure is off and if they win the All Ireland next year pr year after it will be all the sweeter. As a young child I was devasted losing the 5 in a row to Offaly in 82 but two years later winning the centenary All Ireland v Dublin was just so special .Many of my Dublin friends have said last years All Ireland win meant more to them than any 5 or 6 in a row.Every win is special but some .eam more than others.Limerick are hurting right now but I believer better things are going to come for Limerick. Funny you say that, as I would absolutely love to see Cork play Limerick in a big championship game next year. Anyway, more pressing things at hand, a little matter of a big battle with the Banner on Sunday week. As Ryan said park last Sunday and move on!

I agree Ryan. Maybe we shouldn't take any notice of him.

Limerick were narrowly beaten by a very hungry Cork team. Simply can't write this Limerick team off yet hughieferm (Fermanagh) - Posts: 13 - 10/07/2024 16:16:16 2558234 Link 0 |
The 2023 final for me was a seminal moment in Gaelic football history. It is one that I will never forget and probably reference quite a bit going forward. You'd too great rivals and giants going at it. The claim that 2019 was a bit too soon for the inexperienced Kerry lads (which I never entertained, look at 1975 and an even more inexperienced team, but it was made) could no longer be made in 2023. They had 2022 under their belt after all. The claim that Dublin were past their prime, erstwhile confirmed by Cluxo's "mad" return, fed so well into the narrative. It was no longer a case, as in 2019, of The Young Pretender vs. The Beast of a Champion. No, in 2023, rather it was a case of The New Young Champion vs. The Old Pretender. So, for Dublin followers, in addition to the 9 the three lads won that day, it also reinforced the 2019 win which but for a kick of the ball in the drawn game could have been Kerry's AI. The 2022 semi-final (don't say semi-finals are less important than finals: Who has ever forgotten the one from 1977?), had it at one each at that stage. And but for a kick of the ball there too, it could have been Dublin's in 2022. 2023 was extra sweet I believe because here now you had the Cliffords, SOS, Morley and the rest of the Kerry lads in their prime, reigning champs, no longer their first AIF, and the Dubs saying "Yeah, come at us and defend your crown!" There's more pressure on when the crown has to be defended. The actual game itself also befitted this, for me, seminal moment in Gaelic Football history. foreveryoung (USA) - Posts: 2095 - 10/07/2024 17:21:55 2558252 Link 0 |
Luck is important too.If Cork had nt beaten Limerick in the MSHC they were gone and as they were losing in injury time Cork won a penalty which was expertly converted. However the penalty came from a quick puckout which which should nt have been allowed.Cork s keeper took the puck put before refs whistle and the other ball was still in play Sometimes luck is with you and sometimes it is nt. Haven't posted here in forever but with what certainly feels like a massive moment in this team's era I want to share my reflections/thoughts. Mads (Limerick) - Posts: 367 - 10/07/2024 19:55:10 2558265 Link 0 |
Certainly not, they will enjoy the unexpected break, Limerick will still be strong contenders in 2025. thelongridge (Offaly) - Posts: 1879 - 10/07/2024 20:30:50 2558268 Link 0 |
