Given the format of the league, the format of championship and clubs now having their county men back.

Will be at least round 3 before we see where teams are really at.

Looking forward to this evening now I must say.

Pitch in the park looks I'm great nick and our lads seem to be motoring well from what I've observed.

Talking to a shells lad in work says they're not happy with how they're going.

We'll find out tonight I suppose.

Naomh eanna are going to take stopping but surely Martin's are overdue a good year. They have the resources to be a super club if managed well.

Ollie Bolger still starting for cushinstown. Some testament to the man he must be 48.

Watched the Shels v Harriers game. Shels were that bit better. Sean Keane Carroll and Cian Doyle caught some great balls in the first half which set them up for there running game. Martin Byrne back involved with them. Harriers battled hard were 3 points up into the second half but soft goals were the killer. Podge Farrell done well up front but there main men didn't hurl enough to win it. Conditions didn't help either team. Harriers still might come strong in the championship

What's wrong with Oulart?

Went to the game in the park last night and it was a really good first half with the harriers looking sharp but they fell apart in second half and conceded a soft goal. Conor Hearne was superb.
The pitch looked every bit as good as Croke Park. Overall I'd say it was a really good start to championship.

I wouldn't say there is anything's wrong with Oulart. They got relegated three years ago and I know they came back up straight away, but they still would be well below Anne's, Gorey, Shels etc. So it's probably just where they are at. They have some great underage teams coming through so they will greatly improve in the next few years.

They've a good few injuries at the minute. And the new format means that results now don't matter.

Agreed at 35 mins gone it was 1-10 to 11 and Oulart played relatively well in the first half. Dee and Liam Og stepped up big time after that, Cillian Byrne and Andrew Moran were impressive also.

Simon Roche is a big loss for Oulart, I do think in Group 1 it will be between them and Barntown for the relegation spot.

Hearne was fantastic alright.

Felt bad for the young keeper. It was an extremely costly blunder.

Harriers had no bench though which was the difference.

I wonder are we looking to emulate Kilkenny TOO much by adopting their championship structure when they haven't won an All Ireland in nine years, which would be a famine for them. The truth is, there is no jeopardy for 80% of our championship now, not exactly the cut and thrust young lads need to make themselves as hurlers.

It occurred to me last night that we should probably be playing 70 minute club games.

Think we'd be better off with the following club championship:

Two groups of 6

Top team in each group goes straight to the SFs

2nd plays 3rd in the other group and vice-versa in the QFs; the two winners then go to the SFs

4th and 5th are done for the year

6th in each group play off in the Relegation Final

Paudie Foley a huge loss for Crossabeg, not having a player of his quality would be a huge blow to any of the twelve 12 clubs but it hits Crossabeg even harder

Oisín Foley played very well in the first half but other than that, Crossabeg weren't able to get much going, the rest of their forwards really struggled to win possession

2-10 is a weak enough score too, Ferns hit a good few wides in the first half so it could have been more than 2-23 on a different day

I think Keith Rossiter made a mistake leaving Gavin Bailey out of the Wexford panel this season, he's a real tone-setter from an intensity standpoint and always brings physicality to the game

Paul Morris was good as was Niall Murphy, goes to show how much of a step-up it is from senior club to senior inter-county

How do you think Ferns will cope without Eoin Murphy and Dermot Doyle? Two very big players in recent seasons. I agree with you about Gavin Bailey but I was more surprised Eoin Murphy didn't get an into the Wexford panel this year, I've been hugely impressed with him, he seems to have been discarded based on a poor display against Clare in the league last year when most were poor. Maybe he was asked in but declined due to travelling I don't know but he's a tidy hurler.

Looking at some of the results across the grades I don't think I've ever seen as many teams getting beaten by as much in first round games.

First round games tend to be more competitive yet I fear we are seeing the effects of basically reducing our county championships to the level of all county league games with zero jeopardy

This is the way the system should be but I think that it was put forward a few years ago and clubs voted it down. It's also obvious that the years of having 8-10 clubs who could win senior hurling is over. Realistically it's between 6 and the football is between three or maybe four at a push.
