When else did you think they would be held. County Championships start in mid August in most counties. Club Championships which involve 100% of senior players compared to inter county which involves less than 4% of senior players.

I don't think it make much difference to clubs as they don't start club championship until August and in reality it only effect prib 2 counties I think all Ireland should be pushed back 3 weeks from what it is now ,, not sure if the clubs are the gaa had they a choice in all these new rules in football last number of years have they choice in the way competition are run had they a choice in changing minor to undrr 17 had they a choice in having concerts in croke park in aug I'm only asking these questions as a member of my club I was never made aware of any meeting held to discuss all the above mate u were in ur club

You answered the questions. Club Championships start 2 weeks after the All Ireland.,which is mid August. And don't give us the nonsense that only 2 counties are effected by the All Ireland date. No county champion is going to want to sit for 6 weeks waiting on their Provincial championship game against a team who won their county 2 weeks ago. The players have spoken. We have a split season. Get used to it and quit the whinging.

People against the split season are mainly:-

1 - GAA writers in daily papers/other media who can't see beyond inter County

2 - people who only go to one or 2 inter County Championship games, have no interest in NFL/NHL or Club games.

3 - TV sports watchers who associated August and September as "Gah" time on TV.

For are most players and Co Boards.

If the Split season stays as it is now - it will ultimately decimate the inter-county game.

As it is right now - >99% of players played no meaningful championship games in July. Who exactly does this suit?

Keep an eye on playing numbers; The longer the split season goes on - I expect these will start dropping the same way as attendances have been dropping.

Don't short sell tradition - as soon as you start messing around it can disappear and bring a lot that is good with it.

Nonsense. Do they have no league football in Kildare. There hasn't been club championship in July for years in most counties.

Some very interesting stuff in there. I like the ideas of 30/50 meter adjustment on frees for dissent, 'solo and go' option on frees and shaving foam for the refs. Lots of other ideas that will be interesting to see as well"
In my opinion, not a good outcome from this match.

For your first point I don't think its a case of the writers not being able to see beyond inter-county. You're discounting the years of experience in the game at club and inter-county level. People who have been there and done that. People with a lot more medals for club and county than anyone on here. They're seeing more and more apathy towards the game and rightfully getting concerned.

As for current players being for it - most haven't seen any change at all as a result of the split season. The club championship still begins and ends around the same time. So its really all for nothing.

In Kildare the club league was ran earlier in the year as it is in most counties I believe.

That's my main point though. In Kildare and indeed in most counties the split season leads to no football or hurling in July. The best months for Football and Hurling have no football or hurling.

Is it really all for nothing? - I'm sure the Clifford brothers (and many others) welcome the gap/break.

In the independent a week or so ago Martin Breheny had an article bemoaning the change to July for the finals and saying it is clear to "everyone" that it's not working.
Ironically in the same paper, same day, we had two high profile players, the Clifford brothers, lauding the new calendar and saying how the players are really pleased with it.

Well in Monaghan, Cavan,Tyrone and Armagh to name but a few, we had league football all thru July. Then a couple of weeks break before Championship. Maybe Kildare is an outlier,OR maybe you just have no interest in club football and don't know what is happening in your own County. The most important people, the players are all for the split season. Allows the players to plan their year in advance, not like the old ramshackle set up we had previous. The split season is here to stay so just get used to it.

I agree that its not clear to "everyone" - the debate on here shows that. The fixtures mess that we had before wasn't fair on the club player and the split season fixes this. I believe a master fixtures list with an agreed overlap between club and county commitments would be a much better solution where you can get the best of both.

With Oasis taking up station in Croke Park next August its clear that the season is going to stay much as it is for another year at least. Perhaps county boards will be able to use that time better next year but I doubt it.

We are talking on this thread around declining attendances and the Football review. The review is happening because people have been voting with their feet and not getting out to matches in they way they did before. I believe the championship structure and the rush to play the games ASAP is really adding to this.

That Club In Derry that had two players double marking a player in an Under 14 Final should be called in front of Jim Gavins working group to explain their cynical carry on so Jim can get behind the heads of these people destroying Gaelic Football before all selectors of that under 14 team are banned for 10 years
