I agree about last year. We were in a position to be in the final before ever heading to nowlan park. Hopefully we'll improve and others will be in transition. I'm very worried about Davy's visit being first up. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3145 - 20/11/2024 11:47:53 2580424 Link 0 |
I was reading a lot about kinnerks training techniques last night and you could argue he has personally monopolised the all Ireland as 8 of the Clare lads had him too. Is there a Wexford academic hiding somewhere who can replicate this? Apparently their training games are 3 Vs 3 in small patches at above my match intensity trying to keep the ball with passing drills. That shouldn't be complicated to copy. Plenty of coaches doing similar drills at clubs down here. Those will improve heads up hurling under pressure, basically speed of thought, and basic skills like movement, footwork, touch, handling, pickup etc., basically the speed players can execute at . You can shrink the area down to whatever you want to make the drill harder, and increase defenders to 4 or even 5 if you want to make it really tough. Kinnerk brings way more than just improving individual players, or groups of players, though. He's constantly tweaking team set up and tactics. The drills you mention just prepare his players individually to carry out the team tactics he wants to pursue. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 13880 - 20/11/2024 12:36:16 2580431 Link 0 |

I think that if we're getting worried about Antrim playing us first up at Wexford Park, then we're in for a very long season

The Leinster winning minor starting team from 2019 Cian Byrne Dylan Whelan Kyle Scallan Joe Conroy Justin Moran Cian Molloy David Codd Jack Kirwan Luke Kavanagh Josh Sheil Dylan O'Neill Paddy Whitty AJ Redmond Richie Lawlor David Cantwell Only Richie and the two Cian's have come through, I thought we might get a few more off that team. To be honest with you, with Minor now being U17, you can only really judge the 17yos off it as I think most of the 16yos aren't developed enough Out of the team who started the 2019 Leinster Minor Final, I think every single one of them was up to the age; at the time, I thought that Richie Lawlor, Cian Molloy, and AJ Redmond were going to kick on and become senior hurlers with Wexford, had some others down as maybes such as Dylan Whelan, Kyle Sclallan, and Justin Moran. Hasn't worked out yet for various reasons although Richie has been played out of position IMO and is still young, Cian Molloy might have been a Championship starter this year had he not been injured, and I'm fairly sure the reason why AJ has not been in the squad is not because he's not good enough Funnily enough, the 2020 Minors and the 2022 Minors (Neither of whom made the Leinster Final and the latter lost to Laois in the QF) may end up contributing more to the Senior team, have CBD, Cian Byrne, Conor Foley, and Darragh Carley (And maybe Michael Dundon, wouldn't be as confident on him) from the 2020 side and then Seán Rowley, Cillian Byrne, Simon Roche (Might be a bit positionless at Senior level other than corner-back), and Dylan Purcell from the 2022 Minor team ElGranSenor (Wexford) - Posts: 354 - 22/11/2024 14:44:03 2580725 Link 0 |
Scallan has been in Senior squads, Justin might yet break through. Dylan Whelan and Josh Shiel have been on the Senior Panel also. AJ doesn't want to play Senior. Ironically apart from Richie the 3 that have played most Senior minutes were only subs on that team, Conor Foley, Cian Byrne and Tucker Kinsella. Another sub, Oisin Pepper, has also had Senior minutes. And Eoin Ryan wasn't even on that panel as far as I can remember, but was a Senior Championship starter this year.

A man I'd have great expectations for would be Eoin Whelan off the 2021 minor team. Dara Kehoe is another excellent defender. Wickham, Parker and Molloy all have potential, Andrew Moran also. Lads like Roche, Rowley and Cillian Byrne still have another year at u20. Michael Dundon is an excellent prospect also. But therein lies the rub, there's no knowing how many, or few, of these lads will turn into top Senior intercounty hurlers by the time they hit the start of their physical peak years, around 24 years old. Realistically of all the lads who have played Senior who were minor since 2019, Richie is still not a nailed on starter. Cian Byrne isn't the finished product yet either. Still not sure that Conor Foley is best at the back, think there might be a midfielder or half forward in him, 2 positions we might need more players for in the coming years as most of the best players coming through off those minor teams 2019-2022 seem to be backs. I've big hopes for Patsy, I still think him and AJ were the best players on that 2019 team. What we aren't producing are plenty of tall forwards, whatever the reason for that is. Some of the changes in development squad make up might address that problem, but we are looking at least 5 years down the line there. Cian Byrne isn't the finished product yet, but he is definitely heading in the right direction with some of the performances he put in this year. The key for the likes of Cian is to get 1 or 2% better each year like the way the Limerick, Clare or Cork forwards have developed so that you become a real top class inter county forward. If we had a fully fit (none of them carrying injuries) and fully hurling sharp full forward line next year of 13. Cian Byrne 14. Lee Chin 15. Rory O'Connor I think we'd be in good shape. To compliment that full forward line we'd need a hard working and physical half forward line. 10. Oisin Foley 11. Jack O Connor 12. Richie Lawlor/Tucker Kinsella Past hurler (None) - Posts: 808 - 22/11/2024 22:11:05 2580775 Link 0 |

With Rory given licence float where he wanted? Would work if we got the best version of Jacko every time he went out. And once our keeper and backs didn't just resort to looking for the red helmet every time they get the ball.

Did you forget what happened back in April? Davy Fitz & Antrim will 100% target the Wexford match as one they can get a win. Past hurler (None) - Posts: 808 - 23/11/2024 09:55:10 2580795 Link 0 |
They weren't far off beating us 2 years ago in the Park either. They had all the momentum in the closing minutes.
