Lot of modest attendances this weekend OpenStand (Limerick) - Posts: 717 - 19/06/2023 10:12:45 2487101 Link 0 |
I'd say the drama of the weekend will give it a boost now, for next weekend you imagine sell outs for Galway V Mayo and Donegal v Tyrone while Kildare and Cork supporters will be heartened by the weekend. Armagh and Derry will be bring a massive crowd to the quarter final I'd say.

For neutral venues they are ok I suppose except Armagh v Galway. Doesn't Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada hold 9,300? Unbelievable that Armagh and Galway could only 2/3 fill that! Would have looked ridiculous if the game had moved it to Croke Park as requested, good call by the GAA there.

A little over 5 thousand at Carlow v Dublin. Definitely not 7 thousand.

I'd guess there was around 10,000 in Cavan. Almost all Dublin and Tyrone but very few Tyrone in for first game and most Dubs left early as the rain and thunder began so always looked much less. .

No official figure for Carlow game probably somewhere between 5 - 7 k It felt around the 7 as I said My point of post was more the paltry Dublin crowd. Blackbog (Carlow) - Posts: 713 - 23/06/2023 12:30:07 2488632 Link 0 |

Galway v Mayo was a sell out but the official attendance was reported at 23,897. Pearse stadium has a capacity of 26,197. There's a discrepancy as there room for an extra 2,000 supporters. Can anyone explain this anomaly? centrefield99 (Galway) - Posts: 136 - 27/06/2023 01:15:07 2489828 Link 0 |
tickets sold and people not turning up? but they counted tickets sold instead of people in through the gate. often happens in many sports. KillingFields (Limerick) - Posts: 3674 - 27/06/2023 12:02:01 2489963 Link 0 |
Possibly because someone decided it was a good idea to make the stand tickets general admission instead of allocating everyone a seat and the terrace tickets covered all of the terraces instead of allocating everyone to a specific area. Both of which mean the capacity has to be further reduced for safety reasons. Couple of thousand people denied the chance to attend and €50k lost, all because of poor ticketing policy.

Capacity in Connacht venues is reduced when matches are unreserved seating. Connacht championship matches are reserved seating so 26k plus would be allowed to attend matches in Salthill.

1st time since the 1999 Connacht final Galway outnumbered Mayo in a championship match. Not quite 2 to 1 but I would say we had close to 60% of the crowd.
