It was obvious that attendances are going to be low until knockout games begin. Think GAA took supporters for granted with the new systems and the pricing structure for the games, thought people will still go regardless but people arent stupid and although shame low attendances and poor atmosphere at games its only way they might review and set realistic ticket prices going forward. macca999 (Fermanagh) - Posts: 1142 - 22/05/2023 16:12:48 2480603 Link 0 |
If the GAA has a Marketing Department they need to get rid of it and install a new one. If not surely one of the Companies who sponsor the Championships could provide some expertise. Charging €15 for adults and €5 kids to TC Group games was the height of lunacy. Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 1950 - 22/05/2023 16:28:09 2480609 Link 1 |

Anyone got a figure for Tipp vs Waterford. It's the only one we are missing from the Munster hurling championship. I heard during the week they were expecting around 19,000 but don't see an official figure mentioned anywhere. dahayeser (Cork) - Posts: 353 - 29/05/2023 10:14:02 2482466 Link 2 |
266,414 people attended the round-robin stages of the Munster senior hurling championship. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8282 - 30/05/2023 17:33:06 2482987 Link 1 |
Doing the maths on that - 20,832 at Tipp v Waterford Averaging 26,641 per game. dahayeser (Cork) - Posts: 353 - 01/06/2023 11:34:30 2483336 Link 0 |
Some money spinner of a competition! Public tickets for Minster Final sold out in 20 minutes. Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 1950 - 01/06/2023 13:49:17 2483364 Link 0 |

Your point being? Limerick's big bandwagon hasn't hit the buffers to return to the 10-15k which supported them before their current success? Is that the point, or what? Kilkenny were never going to bring a big crowd to Wexford when they were through. Dublin hurlers have poor support and Galway were never going to bring a crowd 200km across the country. A quick glance at a 2017 attendance, 19,168 for a Munster semi final v Clare in Thurles, where was the band wagon then? Thomond? Point being in counties where hurling is strong in munster people are turning up in numbers whilst in football their not because of the difference in entertainment between the two codes.

I thought Ros Sligo would be bigger. You could argue that the winner was guaranteed qualification making it meaningful in it's own right. I mean there was nearly 17k at the Ros Galway Connacht semi final and that was on TV. If the provincials had not big crowds the round robin worse. I hope for the final round of group games the venues are provincial towns and promoted strongly to give those locations a boost.

Very surprised at official attendance figure for Ros vs Sligo game, looked more like 8-9k to me which would be more in line with expectation. facethepuckout (Roscommon) - Posts: 216 - 04/06/2023 19:54:57 2484012 Link 1 |

That was the number read out in Hyde Park but apparently was an error. A lot more than that figure.

The attendance in Kilkenny should concern the GAA. There would normally be a very sizeable contingent of both Dublin and Kikdare supporters that would normally LOVE this type of occasion. realdub (Dublin) - Posts: 8678 - 04/06/2023 21:29:51 2484045 Link 1 |
Galway v Armagh should be in Roscommon at The Hyde, it is the central location. Armagh city to Cavan is 45 miles, Galway city to Cavan is 100 miles, it is another 50 from Clifden. GDL (Galway) - Posts: 770 - 04/06/2023 21:39:41 2484052 Link 0 |
There might only have been 273 from Sligo at the match, but there was certainly more than 5,000 Rossies at it.
