Think the pitch in Mountrath defo wouldn't have helped him that way. And also didn't suit his style of play. Birr was the same. Wexford Park will be the same on Saturday. I'd imagine dry hard pitches would suit him far better especially against bigger slower backs. Hopefully it's not a serious injury. Any word on what exactly is Banvilles injury and how long he might be out for?

Replying To Viking66:  "I'd prefer to see the same lads who started the last couple of days start the next. And Egan might feel the same privately from a hurling and Championship standpoint. But he's the manager. He has to deal with the Wexford hurling public. A fickle bunch at the best of times. If he names the same team, and they don't beat Kilkenny, which is by no means a given that they won't btw, there will be the usual negative posters reappear on this who haven't been seen since last May or June bemoaning the fact that Egan sent out a young team which was an insult to the 12000 paying punters blah blah blah.
Now if you think back to yesterday, and I didn't buy the stream so I can't watch it back, the more established or senior lads didn't exactly stand out apart from Jippo who started and Devitt if you consider him a senior lad yet. The workrate seemed to be a good bit down in the last 15 minutes compared to the lads who started the game and Offaly came back into it. Noticeably the Offaly backs were able to run out of defence up the pitch largely unchallenged. If the workrate is down against Kilkenny we will surely lose whoever he picks. Because you can be sure workrate won't be an issue for Kilkenny whoever they pick to start or come on."
Am not sure myself that "what will the public think?" is foremost in Darragh Egan's mind, or any other manager's mind, when they sit down to pick a team.

Having said that, I do expect next Saturday's team to have more of a "settled" look about it, but for a different reason. Am guessing he'll surely want to get some game time into the more established lads before the League starts, in the same way he used the first two matches to give so many newer players some game time.

And surely any Wexford manager will always want to give themselves a fairly strong hand against Kilkenny anyway!

He said in the Indo that MOH is training well and that ROC is getting better. Any word on any of the other more established players that weren't seen the last 2 days Pikeman?

Kilkenny will more than likely be experimenting, there short 6 of there starting 15 from the AI final currently with Mickey Carey and Conor Browne travelling and 4 Ballyhale players playing the final on Sunday,

Ah OK. I should of bought it but I didn't because I told myself it was only the Walsh Cup so what would the point be watching it back when I got home : D

Richie and TJ Reid, Darragh Corcoran, Darren and Adrian Mullen, Brian and Eoin Cody, and Dean Mason were all on the Kilkenny panel last year from Ballyhale. That's 8 lads. 9 if Lyng can coax Fennelly into coming back in this year.

Ah I probably won't bother. If we beat Kilkenny Saturday I might buy that game afterwards!

Last year darragh Egan needed to see the established players in action for himself so he didn't experiment with team selection that much. This year is different. He's 12 months in the job, knows exactly what the established players have to offer and is looking for new faces to force their way on to the panel.

I've seen some suggest on here that Banville could be a bolter onto the team because of his frees. Yes, he's an excellent free-taker but you absolutely do not start someone in senior intercounty hurling based exclusively on their free-taking ability. If they don't contribute in general play, they don't contribute, simple as. Not saying he definitely won't contribute (I do have my concerns regarding his speed and physicality although his decision-making and hurling ability are up to scratch) but as a fairly reliable rule of thumb, you can't carry a freetaker on a senior intercounty team just because we haven't had the best record on frees over the years. It's all about what you contribute from open play.

Was at the match myself, viking summed it up pretty well but by god lads and i dont like singling people out but fanning is gone a complete liability, it was a shocking goal to concede and but pressure on us for the last few minutes. Backs hurled well enough with Ryan and Carty possibility the pick of them. Midfield played well, if Charlie could be more clinical in front of goal he would be a great addition to the team. Lawlor was my man of the match , he looks a fine prospect. Forwards were ok, banville excellent on frees but needs to contribute more from play. Jack and micky were the usual, mixed the good with the bad. Dunbar was poor and unfortunately Higgins doesn't look up to the standard from what I have seen from him so far, but i hope he proves me wrong. Conor hearne is another good prospect. I know it a big night Saturday but it is only a walsh cup game so I think we should keep the experimenting going. Finally the ref had a shocker last Sunday even the offaly lads around me couldn't believe some of his decisions.

Lyng probably doesn't need to coax Fennelly back. Besides some of the lads you mentioned, there are some good young forwards he's already tried out this year. Whether they are ready for senior championship hurling, time will tell. But, I think young Billy Drennan is an exciting prospect, and could make a break through this year. Kilkenny had the youngest team/panel out of the leading counties last year, I hope they'll be a stronger outfit this year. A lot will probably depend on Lyng and his set up.

Stick Rory in there, possibly flood and that's close to the summer team
