That's not really what I meant at all Pikeman. What I was talking about were proper good county board appointed coaches going in to do an hour with the u12, u14, u16 and minor coaches and players at each club maybe twice a year. And all the secondary schools. In football and hurling. Aside from imparting knowledge to kids in front of their own managers and mentors, or teachers in schools, so that they can learn something, they can watch how the sessions develop and give advice on possible improvements. And most importantly they might spot good young players who might slip through the net. You are talking maybe 4 or 6 lads, preferably from different areas of the county to keep travelling costs down, working 4 evenings a week in their district clubs and 1 afternoon/evening a week in the secondary schools in their areas. And not to play catch, rounders but do hurling training. From April to September in the clubs, and April , May and September in the Secondary schools. Maybe 15 hours a week including travelling. 6 lads getting €300 a week would cost approximately 46k a year. 4 assigned to the 4 districts and 2 to cover any of the 4 when they are away on holidays etc and cover clubs in 2 districts when none of the 4 are on holiday. Every underage team at every club and school should get 2 or 3 sessions with one of these lads. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 15713 - 26/05/2023 21:38:16 2481827 Link 0 |
Have a feeling Wexford will win this. WildPundit (Tipperary) - Posts: 1709 - 26/05/2023 23:34:17 2481834 Link 0 |
I am not confident, but many many times in my life we've pulled it out of the bag with zero expectations. Kilkenny 96 Limerick and tipp 01 Waterford and Cork 03 Kilkenny 04 Galway and tipp 07 Dublin and Clare 13 Clare and Waterford 14 Kilkenny 17 Most of 19 Kilkenny 22 For flood, rackard, wheeler, Doran, buggy, Jacob, dunne, storey, fitzy. I thought this fading generation could win the biggest prize, now they have a much more important job which is salvaging who we are as a people. Please god the spirit of 98 is in the park tomorrow. If we show them who we truly are, Kilkenny have no chance. Anything else and we're doomed. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3580 - 27/05/2023 10:01:51 2481863 Link 0 |
Yes tiger We 7are gone from the championship so all we can grab at now is survival in the top tier. There is no doubt that the future of Wexford hurling will be analysed to death by all of us here and by the media in general. For now though it's all about what happens on Sunday. One big push needed--- let's go for it lads. Magpie2 (Wexford) - Posts: 453 - 27/05/2023 10:17:58 2481867 Link 0 |
There was a last paragraph to this that read the same should be in place for football. Cost around 90k for both.

From what I've heard, Egan supposedly lost the dressing room after the game against Limerick. To be fair, it all makes sense now, would go a long way to explaining how lifeless Wexford have been all year ElGranSenor (Wexford) - Posts: 491 - 27/05/2023 12:29:08 2481890 Link 0 |
What about the faithful followers of Antrim, Dublin and Westmeath, don't they deserve anything?

The reason we are in the position we are is down to the players and their no show for the second half last week

Exactly, that 2nd half last week was the biggest dereliction of duties I've ever seen on a sporting field, if there's anything in them they'll come out fighting tomorrow.

Load of rubbish always hear stories like this when a team goes bad training during the week or row in the camp .All excuses for mot delivering in my view .Good teams don't make excuses they make history.

Spot on. Wexford haven't been good enough this year and it's all part of a long time decline based on virtually no success at All Ireland level at any grade. As a Wexford supporter I want nothing more than a win tomorrow but beating Kilkenny is just papering over the cracks. Sad day if we get relegated but might the massive kick up the arse the whole hurling set up in the county needs.

If you think it is better for Wexford to go down then you have never experienced relegation or how awfully difficult it can be to get up from a lower level. It is horrible and a horrible vibe going back training the year after. At a time when some good minors and u20 hurlers could be coming through in Wexford it would be the worst time imaginable for them to be relegated. I never said I want Wexford relegated. Read my post. I want a Wexford win tomorrow massively but whatever happens something dramatic needs to change with Wexford's hurling structure, otherwise it it's just delaying the inevitable.

Famous last words but I think some people are over-exaggerating how bad our hurling structures are. Could they be better? Yes. Are they bad? Probably not. ElGranSenor (Wexford) - Posts: 491 - 27/05/2023 22:31:47 2482044 Link 2 |
Extremely nervous about tomorrow . The consequences of losing could be huge for the county. I hope the lads go out and give it absolutely everything . Us Wexford supporters need to back then very step of the way
