Replying To Magpie2: "Well he did. Top story at the start of his programme with comment and interviews. Well done Alan." Interview with Martin Storey was a bit over the top when discussing darragh egan's future but Alan corcoran is as passionate about hurling as anyone on here.

Replying To Tiger1: "Fixed for kilkenny next wensday evening." Can't see how it will be fixed in a venue without lights.

Watched match this evening here. Knowing the result makes it a bit less dramatic but what a performance by the lads. To a man, they showed grit and determination and never gave up. As is the norm with KK, they made it hard. Some of these lads need to be given game time for the seniors in the league next year. It gives hope for the future. Early start on Thursday for the final but up Wexford.

Whoever gets the best Wexford job needs to be told no more negative hurling.
Every team sets up defensively from time to time but generally that is your wing forwards dropping back to midfield in a passage of play and your midfielders then dropping back into defence to help.
The day of taking your wing forward or corner physically out of their positions for the whole match is long gone.
This thing of Rory O Connor out hurling around wing back and inviting teams onto us is basically telling the opposition we are inferior to you and we are trying to limit what you score against us.
For 2024 I'd have no problem giving the management job to Keith Rossiter on a 5 year term and bring them 19/20 years olds up to speed and mix them with what we have.
A few Leinster titles are there for the next few years with TJ Reid soon to retire, Galway have a good few old lads too.
It's whoever brings through their 20-24 year olds in the right way will reap the rewards in Leinster over the next few years.
Playing a 10 year old 2013 sweeper style of hurling is not how I want these young lads brought through!!

Well done to the U-20's. You did yourself, your families, your club and Wexford proud.
Keith Rossiter and his backroom team has done a very good job and he is rightly keen to point out that nothing has been won. The modern Wexford team now needs to look beyond getting to a final or beating Kilkenny as a yardstick of success. Forget about anything in the past as it's irrevelant. Forget about the semi final and the warm up games. It's about going out and performing the next day again.
As regards the U-20 panel, they are learning that hard work, grit and winning your own ball is essential to compete at county level. Hard work and grit will get you a long way.
What's also impressive is having a panel of high quality players. This comes from the pipeline of players coming through. The knock on effect of having a decent pipeline means competition to make the extended county panel, then make the 23 and then make the starting 15. Nobody's place is guaranteed. Rossiter has been at pains to tell that to anybody who listens to him - you fight for your place in the panel and you earn the jersey.
So well done to all involved. You did the jersey proud and that's all I, as a fan can ask of any young lad or girl. With hand and heart.

Another thing that shouldn't go unmentioned is that while Kilkenny were missing Drennan, I thought most of their lads seemed to be further ahead of our lads in terms of S&C. Give our lads two years more to physically develop and there's a good chance they'll be even further ahead of this Kilkenny crop.
I know some people have been lamenting out under-age structures but most of that criticism seems to have been misplaced. Once you implement a new development programme at under-age level, it takes time both to bed in and to bear fruit. The U20s last year, this year, and possibly next year are very good crops IMO and show that we are developing quality young hurlers. Our main issue at Senior level is our 22yos, 23yos, and 24yos; the younger crops look promising though.
On a side note, TG4 don't get enough credit for their coverage and how much they do for the GAA.

Replying To Magpie2: "Fantastic result last night. I wasn't at all confident before the game but boy did they prove me wrong. Composure is the key word here. I really thought we were gone when Kilkenny got the 2 goals. Not so, they fought and they fought and forged out a memorable victory. There were stars all over the pitch, Carley, Dundon, Rowley, Cian Byrne, Ohagan, Twamley. Luke Murphy and Jack Redmond were quiet by their standard but there's more in them than shown last night. Overall a great result. What impressed me most was the never say die attitude of our lads and the ability to turn the cats over in their own backyard. Great credit to Keith Rositter and the backroom. Now let's go and finish the job. It won't be easy as Offaly are a very good side built on last year's minor team which should have won the all ireland." They had 4 starters last night off that minor team. And 1 sub came on. There were 2 other standout players off that minor team who didn't play last night because they got injured against Galway. They are hoping to have these back. That's potentially 7 starters off last years minor team. They are going to be good at this grade for the next couple of years at least.
