There's definitely been progress in 2024 under Kevin McStay. No silverware but more games for newer players. Gaa_lover (USA) - Posts: 3500 - 06/09/2024 16:39:29 2568746 Link 0 |
Changing management won't bring them up to the level of All Ireland contenders. Was it a 3 year term MC Stay got ? If it was he should be left there

Mayo should be at that level. Well yeah management makes all the calls the tactics, makes the team tick makes players happy to perform at their best. Look at the state donegal where in last year a shambles.. They got to a semi this year with a top class manager so yes change in management can make a world of difference you can have great players but they won't perform at their best if not in the right positions or if there's a bad mood in the camp. When are Mayo players going to accept responsibility themselves rather than getting rid of the manager. They have a history of dispensing managers and it hasn't done them any good. The players had enough chances to beat Galway this year and in the drawn match against Dublin when leading by a point in injury time Kilkenny was allowed catch a kickout, take his mark and set up the equalizer. Even if you go back to the game against Kerry in the league when you were down to 14 men you won a mark in a poor position because it was a non scoring back that won it. The ball was kicked wide, the kickout was worked to Clifford and he won it for Kerry.

I think so to. Just a shame that it has made it to the national media - makes it look like a circus.

Apart from 2015 when was a manager forced out by player pressure?

There's 6 Mayo players in the Connacht squad for this weekend, from Ah Ref's Senior Football final preview pod: Aidan O'Shea, Matty Ruane, Paul Towey, Fergal Boland, Bob Tuohy, Jack Carney. The rest of the pod is great too, as ever. GreenandRed (Mayo) - Posts: 7669 - 16/10/2024 11:23:13 2575240 Link 0 |
Let's hope the senior County Final is a better spectacle than last year. Possible storm on Sunday though will make playing conditions very difficult. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11418 - 17/10/2024 21:59:52 2575543 Link 0 |
Will be just as bad. Both teams play the standard 15 man defence followed by slow break out from defence tirawleybaron (Mayo) - Posts: 1197 - 19/10/2024 03:47:13 2575764 Link 0 |
Finally some news on the Mayo GAA centre of excellence. 40 acres of land donated according to reports today near Bohola just of the N5 (kiltimagh side). Location would be central enough within the county for access. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11418 - 22/10/2024 19:12:02 2576437 Link 0 |

Cillian O'Connor opting out for the year according to the Irish Examiner. Only a handful of starts for Mayo this year perhaps played a part in that decision.
