I don't think I've enjoyed two mckenna cup games as much. I don't know whether it's the football or the covid, but even Armagh in the freezing cold was very enjoyable I have to say. Gearoid performances worth the entrance fee alone. Pity that we don't have a proper set of league games to look forward to. It is very easy to drop your standards when you are playing at a low level. The lads need to prepare like they are playing a Tyrone, Kerry, Mayo in Carrick on Sunday. My team would be 1. Galligan 2. K Brady 3. Faulkner 4. Fortune 5. Moynagh 6. Clarke 7. McLoughlin 8. A good win considering the conditions. It was a rotten day, pure and simple. Hard to judge the wind as it swirled, and the rain and pitch had the ball like a bar of soap. We played the 1st half well, killing a lot of time while we played into the wind, and picked 0ff scores when we did. Didn't use the wind very effectively in the 2nd half, but did enough to keep them at arms length. They found it very hard to break us down, and we were safe enough. Paddy Lynch is a baller, hit some serious scores. He's the great white hope as a scoring forward as far as I can see. Did well without GMac, Jason McLoughlin is such a player too. A good win in awful conditions yesterday. Leitrim were up for that and it was never going to be the type of day where we had it won by 35/40mins. We got the win and we move on. Gearoid will be a huge addition and we will be big favourites to beat Wexford who are at a pretty low ebb. They've a couple of guys who will need watching, like Ben Brosnan. But they're not as good as Leitrim and if we're on it from the throw-in we can push on and make it 2 from 2. A word on Martin Reilly. He could have easily hung up his boots last year or the year before with years of service given and an ulster medal in his back pocket. How many points to go up from division 4 and where are the banana skins for Cavan? For me 11 points would be comfortable as most teams will take points of each other. I think we might have negotiated our way past the banana skin on Sunday…. Tipperary have lost most of their squad of a couple of seasons ago and shouldn't threaten much… If Cavan keep their head and treat every game with respect they will have little problems… If we end up loosing to any team in this division it won't bode too well going forward….
