Thats a reasonable post. If we are to stay in Division 1 it was never going to be decided by results against Dublin or Kerry and to some extent Derry. Even in the cruise control of the early league they are still way ahead of us in terms of panel development given the turnover of players we've had. The two points against Dublin will prove a real bonus in the long run. What managemenet really need to see after these 3 games is any of the fringe players and young lads have what it takes to compete at this level. Then when the likes of Jones, McAnespie, Mccarthy and Ward come in for the later stages of the league, along with the old gaurd, we can give staying up a good rattle.

Wouldn't be to annoyed with today's results, younger players probably gave Kerry to much respect in the second half . stoneygrey (Monaghan) - Posts: 213 - 04/02/2024 20:28:11 2524352 Link 0 |
Agree with a lot of this. Kerry's defence was a key difference, so the missed goal chances and numerous blocks on attempted points meant that at the final whistle we seemed some way behind. Can't get too.despondent. There was no fear in running at Kerry, looking to take scores and carving out opportunities to raise the green flag. Given what we have seen a in few years gone by this an attempt to go 'toe to toe' with, well, Kerry. Conditions didn't help, the experience undoubtedly will. Hon to the next. Small some but all difference is maybe a lot younger players who fill out and all that with time but say after 2 games with dubs and kerry you would take 2 pts out of the 4

The Monaghan full-forward was exceptional, outstanding.

Missing the two clear cut goal chances cost ye the game. Good young team full of pace and running, but with a little more experience you should make life difficult for most teams. Good to see football being played with little back passing.

Probably as said tg4 see game from way back different areas u might not on sideline. Maybe the reason. Good observation. I would say that might be the reason . Also wanted win game so probably wanted to see it from different angle etc I am guessing. Expect monaghan to win a few gamed though good team Gaaforlife2023 (Longford) - Posts: 214 - 05/02/2024 00:27:47 2524438 Link 0 |

Also wasn't meant at dig just thought you would talked having at least 2 points out first 4 with some on 1 and another on 0. I responded possibly see game from height or different perspective. Gaaforlife2023 (Longford) - Posts: 214 - 05/02/2024 00:30:45 2524440 Link 0 |
Kerry were a level above today. We done well creating plenty of goal chances but needed 3 in the bag by half time to have caused them enough problems. muckla (UK) - Posts: 366 - 05/02/2024 09:48:57 2524472 Link 1 |
Not too disappointed coming out of yesterday. The win against Dublin has to be definitely looked as a bonus at this stage of the teams development. shaggylegend (Monaghan) - Posts: 1928 - 05/02/2024 11:50:08 2524512 Link 1 |
I think we lack going forward. We are good defenders in the main but the last 45 metres tends to be our weak point. When you see Jack mccarron kicking the play 40 yards back to his own goals means there is a problem. It gives the other team time to defend. We need more pace upfront to have any chance of winning silverware this year. 2014 along time without medals for a reasonable good team( McKenna cup is hardly setting the world on fire) Think we are a few players light upfront. A Monaghan person would know when we last won an Ulster title.

I thought Sean ó shea gave lavelle a tough time throughout. The full back line really struggled. It was a reasonable performance given the team monaghan had out. Alot of newcomers, showing well and some not so much. Its the nature of the league. The latter rounds will be the key games, monaghan are very fortunate to have mayo last again (they seem like staying up and focusing to championship swiftly) which will help if points are needed come round 7. My only worry is that alot of players since 2013 like the ones yday have played these cameo roles only to never really nail down a consistent position with monaghan, managment need to see can they get a few really consistent players for the next 10 years of a strong standard. What team will be used for the cavan game, its really unknown by large at this stage.

Dammed if you do , dammed if you don't , full refresh of the team and the same few never happy.yesterday was another run out for new players and most showed good . Management are doing the right thing getting these players game time in division one . There is 7 probables still to come bad in ,a great position for any team to be in . We will prevail and then see.. stoneygrey (Monaghan) - Posts: 213 - 05/02/2024 20:14:07 2524635 Link 1 |
Shaggylegend there with an early contender for the best comment of 2024. He has set a very high bar. Knoxboya (Monaghan) - Posts: 357 - 05/02/2024 20:53:14 2524643 Link 1 |
2015 . My typo. But just shows how petty some people can be. You did not disagree with my substantive point. We tend to be good in defence but lack a few quality forwards to make any real impact in the championship - were the big boys stand up and are counted. Monaghan have a decent team and should have a few more Ulster titles between 2015 and now. Want to address my substantive points Bernardo (Monaghan) - Posts: 595 - 06/02/2024 10:14:41 2524704 Link 0 |
I don't agree with your point about lack of forwards. I think Vinny has a lot more options in attack than defence and I believe most Monaghan supporters would recognise that. Our attack is young with the exception of McManus and Jack. But plenty of Options Bannigan, O'Hanlon Hamill, Mooney Jones McNulty Woods McCarthy McAnespie McManus McCarron Garland Irwin Ward Mohan Thats 15 players who have had game time in the forwards over the last two seasons that are involved this year. shaggylegend (Monaghan) - Posts: 1928 - 06/02/2024 12:36:58 2524733 Link 0 |
