The poster who commented on Heslin missing a kickable free in Newry clearly didn't attend the match and should be careful commenting on basis of hearsay. It was far from kickable, I'd say 20-80 chance of scoring and he has consistently kicked points from play and frees for ten years now at this level, 1-12 yesterday. Posters should put more thought into their comments

If it's changed to 3pm the crowd will be affected for that compared to as if it was at 6pm as club games are fixed for 2pm on that Saturday. I understand the support isn't where it should be but some of the many supporters that would go won't be able if there club game clashes with that game

Correct, wasn't at the game, relying on what I read in the paper or here to be honest. Examiner said he missed a "huge free", that doesn't necessarily insinuate it was an "easy" kick I'll agree. Didn't mention his stirling record for us over many years, irrelevant comment.

Big Sur, quote unquote from Will O Callahan; " Dessie Dolan says @westmeath_gaa 's match at Fermanagh on Saturday week will now be moved to an afternoon throw-in rather than 6pm. Venue also moving out of Brewster Park. 3pm at Edernrey on Saturday week.".

I can't see the updated fixture anywhere else myself, God forbid our social media pages would update us!!

Antrim were poor on the day but westmeath were outstanding and credit should be given to dessie and westmeath. Duncan was immense and heslin was on fire. Every player stood up and 5pts from the bench aswell. Moving on to a 4 pointer now against fermanagh. Could we end up in a 3 or 4 way joint 2nd place in div 3. Our score difference will stand to us. But alot of results have to go our way. Important to get 10 points znd see what happens.

Impressive result, Antrim held other teams in this division a lot closer including Down and Fermanagh and they beat Tipperary so its a good result. I was up in Newry and I thought there were spells of great play from Westmeath. Down started playing a much more direct game in the second half and I do think Westmeath showed a bit of complacency coming out of defence passing laterally when a direct ball forward at times was available. This led to unnessecary turovers in our own half. When the Down supporters got a sniff of the comeback the atmosphere from them was massive. It's an impressive stand in Newry and it was full of Down supporters creating huge volume and in the second half most of the play was down that stand side. So I think this absolutely was a factor. We lost our way a bit and Down gathered momentum and got a questionable peno. Westmeath played some great football that night and goes to show you how a home crowd is important, they were a 16th man that night for Down. I've been impressed with the way we brushed off Offally and Longford in the second halves. We look strong when we have our running game on point and drive forward. With the new lads like Baker, McCormacK and Scahill coming into the team and also with a new manager there was always going to be ups and downs, but overall this far I think we have to be quite happy with the way things are progressing and we are only in the 1st week of March.

Looking forward to a big Westmeath performance-hope game is not destroyed by whistle happy Coldrick like he did recently against Offaly in Mullingar and dont get me started on Gough's performance in Newry recently.

Any news on player availability this week lads? Hopefully Ronan Wallace not far off...massive game, Fermanagh will be well up for it, winner takes pole position for that second promotion spot...

I don't have fond memories of watching Westmeath playing them, almost seem like a bogey team, beaten us more times than not... they need to be given lots of respect on Saturday...

I'm sure Wallace will be ok. I'll be going to it anyways; not like most of the people on this forum but can tell you how the game went the next day…

Still in Down's hands though. They win their two games and they go up. I actually don't think they will and I wouldn't be surprised if Longford grab a draw against them at the weekend; or Offaly take them in Tullamore on Sunday week. Of course Westmeath need to take Fermanagh on Saturday first of all!!

Wallace played against antrim..... gonoude, Smith, leech and mulvihil were only long term injuries I think. Mulvihil played for garrycastle last week. Huge game Saturday, am optimistic if westmeath play how they can, it will take a good fermanagh performance to beat us. U20s out next tue which may mean a few changes on team for Saturday.

I come here for the match reports Matthew so keep them coming! I get home from Australia every two years and plan my trips around Westmeath games, that's how much a maroon tragic I am. Dissapoints me to hear of poor support, you don't know how good it is till you're away, rarely missed a home or away game when I was at home...

In terms of permutations, remember that in the case that 3 teams finish level on points then head v head goes out the window and points difference comes into play, which given our result against Antrim puts us in a good place...So if Down and ourselves win our last 2 we'd still be in with a shout but would be reliant on Fermanagh to beat Cavan on the last day...had the calculator out for that one, happy to be corrected!
Anyways, all pointless if we don't beat Fermanagh this weekend!

It's out of downs hands as their fate depends on outcome of the Westmeath Fermanagh game, they definitely be cheering Westmeath on, while Offaly be cheering other way

If We can beat Fermanagh and Down and Offaly win that would mean 4 teams on 8 points entering the last round. They say the league isnt interesting.
