What are the qualifications you deem necessary to be on the committee to pick a manager? You assert that only Jack Cooney is qualified to do so? Why is he qualified? Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 1945 - 01/10/2024 16:19:35 2572716 Link 1 |
I think you should be on the committee to pick a manager you seem to have enough to say I am sure you got all the relevant qualifications that's needed

The rule affecting underage teams will get its first trot out this Saturday. Two amalgamation teams are involved. There will be plenty of concessions in the future. I've no issue with the rule as I've said before, unless a solution is found we'll lose more players to rugby and soccer. An inadvertent own goal by the gaa. How it's remedied is anyone's guess. 2maroonjerseys (Galway) - Posts: 101 - 02/10/2024 09:01:26 2572753 Link 0 |
I think that if we did this we'd at least have a Manager at this stage. Not sure he'd be the best manager but he'd be a manager nonetheless. I certainly think its a sign of the confidence level out there in the standard of our team. If we are being honest, we have little hope of staying in Div 2 so any prospective Manager will have people calling for their heads immediately. Sure Dessie was only in the job when people were calling for his head on here.

It will work itself out over time i'm sure. Its the only way to ensure competitions are done fairly. In a smaller County like Westmeath people have a good idea of the players so when this rule is broken its fairly quickly spotted. Take a County like Dublin, this rule is essential as the population is huge and there are certain Clubs who break this rule at every opportunity i.e. if 2 C teams are playing each other and one of those team's B Team has no fixture that evening, you can be fairly sure that many of those B players will be played in that C Team match.

Asking a simple question on this forum produces that response.

Anything is possible of course, but it is very very unlikely. No manager to look at new players, retirements, i think some players are travelling and its also gonna be a very competitive Div 2. We are not in a good place going into 2025.

Team that played against Derry. Looks very bleak for next year. This is the reason Dessie stepped away. Jason Daly - Considering retiring Jamie Gonoud (0-01) - Considering retiring Charlie Drumm Kevin Maguire - Retired James Dolan (0-01) - Retired Ronan Wallace - Rumors he's going traveling but not sure David Lynch - Travelling Ray Connellan (0-01) - Considering not playing next year Andy McCormack - Travelling Jonathan Lynam Ronan O'Toole (0-03) Sam McCartan Luke Loughlin - Considering retiring John Heslin Senan Baker. Subs: Robbie Forde (0-01) Stephen Smith (0-01) - Considering not playing next year Jack Smith (0-01) - Considering not playing next year Shane Allen Kieran Martin - Considering retiring Temple56 (Westmeath) - Posts: 518 - 02/10/2024 14:41:45 2572791 Link 0 |
Heslin also considering retirement too. It's a huge job for whoever gets it, they'll do very well to stay up

Mistake should have Considering retiring beside Heslin not Luke.

I think you're retiring Luke a bit early.. he certainly might play hurling next year; or try to play both. Really a shambles that no manager is in place yet. Matthew (None) - Posts: 1038 - 02/10/2024 16:02:47 2572806 Link 0 |
This delay could point to Buddah. Asking for no distractions with Castletown in the final but would have great knowledge of the scene and was on commentary of iarmhi tv on Saturday. Dazzler30 (Westmeath) - Posts: 36 - 03/10/2024 08:22:42 2572854 Link 0 |

I agree. It looks like it could be Buddah and JK.

Div 2 teams for 2025; BigSur (Westmeath) - Posts: 1172 - 03/10/2024 10:51:08 2572875 Link 0 |
So 4 of the starting team that played against Derry are definitely gone. Doubts over 5 or 6 others. Ray and Luke have loads more to give Westmeath. The league will be very important to us next year. Well be blooding plenty of new players something weve failed to do and will ultimately pay the price for.

Plenty of local derbies and two other teams that will have new managers ( Monaghan and Meath ). The division was stronger this year with the eventual All Ireland winners and Ulster champions.

I see a q/f replay has disappeared off the fixture list due to both teams involved in S/Fs in higher divisions. That's 30 plus young fellas not getting game time this weekend. That rule is really going to bite. 2maroonjerseys (Galway) - Posts: 101 - 03/10/2024 13:31:14 2572900 Link 0 |
Don't think so, if it was a local lad then the appointment would have been made weeks ago, it will be someone outside the county.
