Wonder what Keeper7 suffered at the hands of Plunketts in the past. Three or four negative comments this week aimed at the Mullingar club. Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 1447 - 27/11/2021 18:01:41 2390972 Link 2 |
Nothing against Plunketts at all. Was just disappointed to see them drop down two levels after being in a senior final just 8 years ago. I also thought they'd be too strong for the Louth champions.

Well they technically were too strong for the Louth champions. They won

Technically they didn't drop two levels. The County Board decided to reorganise the hurling competitions a couple of years ago and introduced senior B as a tier between Senior and Intermediate, a correct decision I think based on the competitive nature of each championship in the last couple of years, particularly Senior B. The Plunketts side that reached the county final in 2013 contained a number of players coming towards the end of their club careers, Noel Gavin, Oisin Clinton, Greg Gavin, Sean O' Leary, Conor Flanagan, Dermot Curley and Ian Egerton. They didn't have replacements of similar calibre. Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 1447 - 27/11/2021 19:34:24 2390988 Link 0 |
The talk around Mullingar at the time was that the younger players had gotten Plunketts to the 2013 final but they then went with their older players in the final itself.

Plunketts were poor in both Leinster games but look this is bonus territory. Mooncoin weren't great either but very confortable winners with OP gifting the goals. They'll hold there own in senior b. The current team is a mix of young and not so young. Id say 5 or 6 are wrong side of 30 and indeed some not far from 40. Great to see Patrick Lynam back after a year out with a knee injury. Do people know if you can buy tickets at the gate for the raharney game or do you need to buy them online in advance? Matthew (None) - Posts: 1000 - 28/11/2021 09:37:27 2391011 Link 0 |
Online …. Will be time before there's any physical ticket handling !

Disappointing performance but Kilmacud are a very good outfit, better than they have been in previous years in my opinion. Raharney have quite a young back line and perhaps a little inexperienced there to mount a challenge in the Leinster campaign, given that the conditions played in often favour physicality at the back. A great year for them none the less, doubled with their camogie team winning once again and likely looking to progress further in the Leinster/ All Ireland too. thedodger (Westmeath) - Posts: 41 - 28/11/2021 14:48:35 2391037 Link 1 |
A heavy defeat for Raharney with Kilmacud Crokes looked in a different league from the throw in. The Dublin side dominated in every sector and Raharney had no answer to their game plan. Disappointing. Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 1447 - 28/11/2021 17:26:08 2391048 Link 0 |
Mulkearns was a big loss in the full back line for Raharney. Probably the only one physical enough for Kilmacud but i still dont even think he would have made a huge difference as Hayes is really a top level hurler and athlete. Raharney missed the goal in the 1st half to go 1 up and Kilmacud went straight down the field and got one themselves. They also showed how clinical and ruthless they were by bringing down Ciaran Doyle in the 2nd half when he was in on goal. soreknee (Westmeath) - Posts: 166 - 29/11/2021 10:58:35 2391085 Link 1 |
Raharney too young of a team to mount a serious challenge in Leinster. I also felt in the Westmeath championship they had one of the weaker defences out of the teams involved, I remember being at a Raharney Gaels game earlier in the championship and the Gaels looked like they were going to score a goal every time they got anywhere near the D. Mulkearns would not have made much different imo. Hayes or Considine would both have been far too powerful for him to handle. Mulkearns only 18/19.

Mulkearns would have made no difference to scoreline Imo. Great to see him join County Senior panel along with 12 others from last years U20 panel. Good work by fortune to give youth a chance.

We need a constant flow of players from U20 each year. Not all of them will stick with it or indeed make it but you have to give these lads a chance. Not every young lad has an interest in the lifestyle demands for inter-county so let them have a taste of it as early as possible. On the other side of the coin, some very dedicated fellas were always on the panel but never seemed to get a fair crack at it. Again that's easy for me to say from the outside but perhaps they weren't showing in training or closed doors games.

Wouldn't it just be easier to keep taking players not needed in Galway or Dublin ?

Any word on whether glennon is sticking around actually.
Onionbagger (Westmeath) - Posts: 76 - 30/11/2021 11:22:53 2391186 Link 0 |
one of his parents is from Westmeath so westmeath didnt really "take him". you cant really compare glennon with the likes of John Mulhall playing with Kildare, David Reidy with Kildare, timmy hammersly with meath, sont think any of them had any connection with those counties

Dont see why you need him. Should be about getting young lads into a county set up not getting players from other counties in. carlovia (None) - Posts: 1517 - 30/11/2021 12:10:09 2391190 Link 0 |
