Great crowd in Baltinglass last night. Shame about the second half display against Dublins 'D' team. New year same old stuff. Asking Kevin Quinn to operate essentially on his own in the forwards while tightly marked was never going to be enough to break down any intercounty team. His fellow inside forward Darcy barly touched the ball.

Disappointed to see no player from An Tochar in the match day squad: I was hoping that Conor Fee would be involved. There is surely a player off this season's An Tochar team deserving to be on the panel. Good to see Kevin Quinn back in action. Anyway, best of luck to all involved, tonight and for the year ahead. Hopefully Oisin can mould a team capable of competing for promotion."
I was told last night no an tochar lads going in to play county. All held back for club champsionship which they are targetting. Pats holding there lads back to.

Great crowd is right. Heard a few dubs complaining about the flood lights. Not croke park standard obviously ffs.

Pitch was very heavy so not a night for Eoin darcy in fairness.

I think they should give up this thing of bringing Jackson up for frees. Maybe for 45 and further out but inside 45 surely darcy or Quinn can score them at better rate than Jackson.

Playing all their matches in croke park; anywhere else will be sub standard. I am disappointed to hear that the manager is deploying Kevin Quinn in this way; hopefully he will find a system that gets yhe best out of him.

Not sure if that is the case for Pats players there were a number of them playing or on the panel last night

I can understand their rationale but there are some players on that team that would enhance the county team. I had hoped that with the new manager coming in that it would encourage more young players to come on board but its their ow choice: they're not being paid after all.

That's a bit disappointing to be honest. I know club is important but they really shouldn't be allowed hold back lads like that.

I doubt that. It seems that some younger an Tochar lads were involved in under 19 championship late so I doubt they were involved or had time to be in the senior county panel. Others, I'm surprised some are not on panel. I say some will be prominent in the county u20 set up. Anyone know the u20 panel as it appears that some u20 were in the senior panel last night.
Well done an Tochar on winning the u19 championship seems there players coming through there at all age groups. Paper said they hadn't won at that level for 20-30 years.

Wicklow had some good players last night. Thought the tactics when they had whatever wind behind them were a bit naive, and that's not down to the players.

Big difference is that even Dublin lads that I wouldn't have picked out as exceptional with clubs are coming into an established system and they thrive in it. Be interesting to see how Wicklow get on in the league.

Reasonably strong hurling panel named in the Kehoe Cup tonight against Meath is good to see. Hopefully some more Bray lads will come in too once they've had some time off after their extended season. Danny Staunton not included though , anyone know if he'll play this year?

You have hit the nail on the head; we have some good young players but we have no system of play. This is due to the fact that as a county we are on our fourth management team in the last four-five years. In parallel, the playing panel is changing as well. I am hoping that McConville will devise a system whereby the players are clear on what the game plan is and that Kevin Quinn can be utilised properly. There is a question mark about McConville as he is a novice at this level but he needs to be given time to work on personnel, tactics etc. In fairness, he is targeting promotion from division 4 so the league will allow supporters to gauge progress as oppose to matches in the O'Byrne cup. It is disappointing that some of the best up and coming players seem to be missing from the panel for whatever reason. This will hurt our chances in the league as we need all the best players being available to the county manager.

It looks as if Casey may be getting a response from his squad. I realise these games are somewhat akin to challenge games for teams like Wicklow who, at this point in time have no realistic chance of winning the competition but it's a great chance for him to see what players at his disposal. I can't get to matches these days so I'm not familiar with the teams or players taking part. I don't see Danny Staunton featuring and I hope this is only a temporary glitch or there is a good reason for any absence as, to my mind he is, or is very close to being, the best hurler in the county and certainly one that we can't do without.

All will be revealed shortly. Personally I think that stating you are targeting getting out of Div 4 just gives others a stick to beat you with for a new manager. I know you have to be positive and inject positivity into the panel. Winning or coming 2nd in Div 4 would be no mean feat for a novice manager with an emerging panel. The Offaly match was ok but I thought that the performance against Dublin was at best like the curates egg - good in places. One of the sports writers noted that the 10 changes Dublin made didn't interrupt their pattern or flow whereas the 8 changes we made actually weakened us. Seeing as Offaly subsequently heat the Dubs, this doesn't exactly fill me with confidence. Hopefully we can witness the start of a revival under Oisin and I for one won't be shocked if we don't make Div 3 this year. Neither will I criticise management or players if they don't. What I would like to see is steady improvement from game to game and the capacity to hang onto any improvement. No slipping back. That way, when we make Div 3 we can aim at Div 2 and not have to be afraid of the dreaded drop.

I see the minor hurlers are back in Leinster tier 2 this year. Great to see them back at this level. I hope they don't just restrict it to 2006 born players only. There are some class hurlers in Arklow, Bray and St Pats from last year's u15s that should get a look in...

A change at the top table but not much change in committees. When will we ever get out of the black hole we are in? Great evening in Wexford yesterday but as a Wicklow man I was almost embarrassed to be sitting there watching the enthusiasm and excitement. When you go to Aughrim it brings it all home.

Every chance of win for either team
I think Div 4 will be wide open
Whilst Sligo and Laois are favourites
I would out Sligo and Leitrim as favourites to go up.
But I also feel Carlow and Wicklow are well able to upset teams.
As for Saturday I think it will be close
Hopefully Carlow can squeeze a win but would not be over confident
