Replying To carlo:  "As I said before the game it would take a 70 mins + performance to win it & we only got a 55/60 minute performance. That is not to say we didn't play well as we put it up to the dubs for a long time. We probably should have been further ahead at half time. They gradually reeled us in but that goal was very harsh on us. From the terrace it looked like a square ball but I obviously haven't seen a reply. They just seemed a bit stronger than us & forced the result. Lots of positives & I guarantee that our lads are devastated with that loss where before we would be delighted to get within 5 of Dublin. Heads up & drive it on. Was always going to come down to the Antrim game & we can win that. Ceatharlach abu"
It might not come down to that after yesterday, if antrim were to get a point even off dublin that will do them unless we can pick up something against wexford. Surely wexford won't be caught again?

I may have to eat these words, but it's hard to see Antrim getting a result away to Dublin. They can't tow 'fortress Corrigan' 160km south.

And you'd have to imagine Galway will beat them.

Last year, Westmeath beat Wexford, and then Antrim beat them. Let's hope something like that happens again.

Even if Carlow beat Wexford, it might not make any difference to the eventual outcome.

I was standing directly across from it. Whatever about the square ball, Ciaran Abbey was fouled.

It should have been a free out.

They just showed the goal on the Sunday Game before the Galway v KK game & all agreed that it was a square ball. That just makes it even harder to take. What really annoyed me during the game was the ref waving away Carlow players who were protesting about the square ball. He wouldn't even go in & speak to the umpire. If he was reffing Kk or Limerick he would have at least gone into the umpire. He just waved away little old Carlow sure what would they know about hurling. That goal was the difference in the end as Carlow wouldn't have had to be trying to work a goal at the end & could have taken their points. Very frustrating & disappointing.

And a blatant 65 not given when Paddy Bolands shot at goal was blocked in 2nd half.. more umpire errors.
I was behind that goal and it was clearly deflected. Ref again didn't consult..

It would tho because if Carlow beat Wexford then ye would have 2 points and Wexford would have 1. I can't see us beat Galway or Kilkenny this year in fact I think Carlow xan beat us. Its looking like Joe McDonagh for us I'm afraid

I said it might not. Wexford could beat Kilkenny. They did last year.

Tailtean cup draw has been very favourable to Carlow. Fermanagh, Laois, Wicklow and Carlow could have been a lot worse. Traditionally Wicklow would be a 50/50 game, Laois would always be favourites but usually not much between them. Fermanagh would be an unknown quantity. Fermanagh and Laois to progress, unfortunately i can see us losing all 3 games and then on the lookout for a new manager for next year. I hope im wrong but not expecting much.

Almost a perfect draw in terms of teams drawn. A Div 4 team going up, a Div 3 team coming down and another Div 2 team coming down. We can have no complaints in that regard, however I would too be fearful of us losing all 3. I feel as though there is an extremely strong core group of players there who have shown they are talented and can pull out performances e.g. vs Leitrim. In contrast Carlows darkest ever day was in Wexford park some weeks ago against another Div 4 team. Paint it whatever way you want but beating a now Div 3 team and losing to a Div 4 team by that margin is worrying. The players and supporters deserve more, if there were clear patterns of play, kickouts etc this would be a different message. Simply not acceptable

Alot of my points in this message have been taken out. I basically went onto say that I feel the players are being let down by the manager and that he is regressed Carlow considerably

I heard that a number of the football squad have walked away from the county set up. A good number of the County 20s have been asked in to help out for the Tailtean cup. Doesnt bode well for upcoming fixtures.

We could have drawn Waterford, London and Kilkenny - at this point - and we'd do well to get out of the group.

If the county board had any ambition, or respect, for Carlow football they'd have changed the management after the Wexford humiliation*.

Instead it's just being allowed to drift, and the consequences are depressingly predictable.

As we say around my neck of the woods, "heard it before, Joe."

It's very sad that after the highs of the late 2010s, we have hit rock bottom (again) so quickly.

It's about time they did. We are going nowhere under this management. Every supporter in the county can see it but not our Co. Board. Quelle surprise.!

Carlow's Leinster SFC results since 2013.

2013: lost to Westmeath by 11 (Rainbow)
2014: Lost to Meath by 28 (Rainbow)
2015: Lost to Laois by 17 (O'Brien)
2016: Lost to Louth by 10 (O'Brien)
2017: Beat Wexford by 4, lost to Dublin by 12 (O'Brien/Poacher)
2018: Beat Louth by 11, beat Kildare by 7, lost to Laois by 4 (O'Brien/Poacher)
2019: Lost to Meath by 15 (no management on line)
2020: Lost to Offaly by 3 (Carew)
2021: Lost to Longford by 6 (Carew)
2022: Lost to Louth by 15 (Carew)
2023: Lost to Wicklow by 8 (Carew)
2024: Lost to Wexford by 23 (Carew).

Some points

- We lost in the first round every year except when Poacher was there. But, apparently, the county board didn't like the style of play when we were winning. So they preferred to go back to losing.

- The above shows that management is very important. Given it was pretty much the same players in 2014-16 and 2017-18.

- The current manager has never won a provincial championship game - in fact the results have gotten progressively worse - but has been in situ for five seasons. Is there another example in modern GAA of a situation like this?

Is Cunningham from Bagenalstown Gaels on the squad still?

Josh Moore also gone. Culmination of many discipline issues

Well we can't blame the management or county board for getting rid of ill disciplined players. This seems to be an issue with that squad.

It should be also that for 2020 and 2021 seasons Ger Brennan (current Louth manager) was involved and results went downhill after his departure, meanwhile he has moved on to bigger and better things.

Three Bagenalstown players have left the squad 2 goalkeepers and Shane Clarke
