Replying To Onion Breath:  "Maybe like some other dual counties we'd be better off having a Carlow Football forum and a separate Carlow Hurling forum on here?

It wouldn't suit me as I have a strong interest in both, I'm more football than hurling being honest but I support both close to equally, but some posters nearly seem to be offended if football gets more comment on here which in my opinion is just reflecting the fact that regardless of how one team is doing (hurlers Div 1 v footballers Div 4) the big ball game is nevertheless the one that gets Carlow GAA people taking the most."
Which code gets Carlow GAA people talking (I assume you mean this, not taking) the most depends on where you are. In Rathvilly or Hacketstown It would be football, but in Borris or Garyhill it would be hurling. In Bagenalstown it could be 50-50 and in Tullow they probably talk about neither. In Carlow town, they are more likely to talk about foreign-sourced pursuits such as soccer and rugby. At least in my experience.

I was in a hostelry for some food at the weekend, after the Carlow-Offaly game and, as I was leaving, I bumped into a chap I played football with about 300 years ago. I asked him how he was doing. He told me he was happy because Arsenal had just won. I am pretty sure this man has never lived in London. Such is the world we live in.

I was the first person to post on the Carlow forum.
Only Carps ,Onion breath and old yella have posted more than me.
I have always found. It a great vehicle to share my life long interest in Carlow Gaa.
However more recently it's become snidely and disrespectful.
I am no longer interested in reading posts that are just aimed at scoring cheap points

Carps let's be fair now, people following soccer isn't just a town thing. Go to any corner of the county and you'll get lads following the premier league. Irish people are the original foreign plastic fans of English teams.

Agree fully. One of the reasons I gave up posting! I don't mind that most people here know who I am - I would never post something that I know is untrue, personal or something I wouldn't say to anyone's face. It's a Gaa forum and while we ll disagree on stuff - that's part of the love we have for the Gaa!, it should be kept to constructive arguments on the game/structures etc. And now time to go back into hiding again!

Can I just say who cares who is better the footballers or the hurlers….

At the end of the day they are wearing the same jersey and that's that… It's not a competition. This is like the messi and Ronaldo debate it's your opinion vs my opinion and never will be a winner.

Can we just park it and actually talk sense and not have a pointless argument. Thanks

Not sure but there's a link on the Wexford thread. Like ourselves you would have more if SETU Carlow were hurling Fitzgibbon, they are in the Ryan Cup this year. Hopefully next year they will be Fitzgibbon

Yeah seems that way. Just checked Fitzgibbon panel we only have two. One with Waterford and one with Dcu if they will play or start I'm not sure be interesting to see

There's a lad listed as Carlow for UCD too. But it says his club is Windgap, which is in Kilkenny.

You have 2 lads hurling Fitzgibbon with the Garda College too, and 1 at Maynooth. Donagh Murphy is a good player, wouldn't be surprised if he starts for DCU.

Congrats on that, not that it matters and just for talk sake but I was in the mix in the top 5 until I left the County to settle further afield. I could give the usernames of two other posters who were there or there abouts but would it be fair and would admin agree.

Two good run outs for both the footballers and hurlers over the weekend. Great to see new players getting the opportunity to represent the county. Really glad neither game was cancelled due to the weather. Here's hoping for a positive year ahead.

Two more to come this week. Footballers playing wexford on Wednesday in Tullow and hurlers playing Leix in Stradbally on Thursday. Both 7.30. I'd be hoping to make both weather permitting.

I'm happy enough to see Carlow with four but I see Kildare have 6 playing Fitzgibbon which is a fair indication that they'll continue to get stronger this next few years.

Overall UL have some squad and will take all the beating.

Think that says more about Carlow than it does Kildare to be fair, especially given that our hurling underage teams really don't perform at a high level intercounty wise. Kildare have roughly 4 times the population, you'd expect to have more. Still think this hurling renaissance in Kildare is overblow.
