In Glenties and Kilcar there is nothing other than the GAA. That is it. Twin Towns and Letterkenny have every sport there and as such the talent gets split between them. If you're in Kilcar, you play GAA. If Seamus Coleman had been born a few more mile southwest, he'd most likely never have been a professional soccer player.

No they are a properly run club where all players get a chance. That is the secret to our continued success.......

I think you need to get your facts right. There is a soccer club in Fintown.

But he could have 5 Ulster and 1 All Ireland medal.

I wonder with Mickey Graham resigning this evening, will the managerial merry go round start spinning? Would there be any interest from Donegal? Despite lacking the talent pool available in Donegal, he seemed to be tactically astute with what he had at his disposal. An outside bet perhaps?

Doesn't seem to have been any drama at last night's meeting.

A fair few Kilcar and Naomh Columba lads would have played soccer for St Catherine's, Letterbarrow and Dunkineely Celtic over the years. Coleman's uncles Noel and Seamus Carr definitely won a few Premier Division titles with Dunkineely back in the day if I remember rightly.

Replying To Curlew66:  "My understanding from a distance here is that Naomh Conaill is based in the parish of INISKEEL which constitutes of the GLENTIES district (1,500) with over half of that in the Tidy Town (800 population) , the sub parish of FINTOWN (400 souls) and the sparsely populated church district of EDEN ? (need help on this name) adding a couple of hundred more. For some historic reason players residing in the West of the parish (Narin-Portnoo) play for Ardara .

Yes , it's a large land mass but dominated by the barren Bluestack mountain range. It's similar in a way to suggest that the expansive 40,000 ac Glenveagh National Park and the vastness of the Derryveagh Mountains gives Gaoth Dobhair or Termon CLG an advantage.

It's laughable to have posters here from a town of 20,000+ suggesting that NC with a pick of about 1,500 max be split in two. Naomh Conaill have been a consistent top four club in the past two decades in a county with Letterkenny (20,000), Buncrana(6,800), Twin Towns(5,000) and Donegal Town (2,700). It would be interesting to see what clubs like NC and Kilcar are doing well in coaching, underage, schools etc to punch well above their weight.

Hope the neutral views of an outsider sheds some light on this continuous debate. I have visited and travelled through all parts of your beautiful county many times, did some OS work there .. fascinating place names. Had a very interesting chat with a Donegal PP in The Hyde about your club set up bout 5 years ago during a one sided Super 8 match, Michael Murphy was kicking points for fun."
We can all make stuff on here - it's the nature of the beast.

I haven't read anywhere here that anyone called for Glenties/Fintown to be split in two - that's just madness , why would anyone suggest that ????

The poster u replied to isn't from letterkenny , it's widely known where he is loyal to.

This is a step in the right direction and has been badly needed for some time. I wish the three men the very best.

An extremely sad night for Donegal GAA after county board meeting last night. We now have the situation where we have 3 outsiders, 2 from our neighbours Tyrone, in charge of Donegal GAA affairs.

There is and has been a total lack of leadership from Donegal GAA over the last 7/8 months.

If the three men get us on the right path then it shouldn't matter where they're from. We had our own managing things for long enough & look at the state we found ourselves in.

It reminds me of that time the Troika came into run our country after the Celtic Tiger. It's a sad state of affairs alright. Hopefully these 3 men can set us on the right track and I wish them the best of luck. All the old faces continue as normal it seems, no major overhaul.

Doesn't matter where they are from as long as they sort out the mess.

It is disappointing alright that we have two Tyrone men overseeing important roles. I think Billy Bennet is a Waterford man originally, but he's in Donegal a long long time. I think he played hurling with Donegal in the late 90's. He has an impressive CV.
