I maybe read it more like he reached out and Dec/Jan can be busy time with final exams and/or assignments and gave player bit of space to get that done without pulling at him to travel home Jan for training and review at start of league to travel back for games and train. As an outsider looking in things look very poor. This interview was pretty cringe as well. The language he uses is a bit odd as well. Seems like a lot of waffle. No Michael Murphy (retired)Michael Langan, Ciaran Thompson, Niall and Shane O Donnell, Oisin Gallan, Patton. Add in the strong possibility of Eoghan Ban, Hugh MC Fadden, Mogan and Coalon MC Goinagle not playing either as carrying injuries and in Liverpool studying. Take fringe players like Ethan O Donnell and Aaron Doherty out of the squad also and how in earth are we meant to compete this weekend. Carr and O Rourke will do well to win one game this year in the league. Yes Kerry are missing several key players but we are missing more. This is the 15 that' will probably start v Kerry Lynch MC Menamin MC Cole Ward Ryan MC H MC Kelvey Daire O B Ryan MC Fadden Jason MC Gee Luke MC Glynn MC Groddy Jamie Brennan Paddy Bradley Walsh Jamie Grant (sweeper) All in all, I'm rooting for Carr, but between injuries and what else, it's going to be a tough year. We have absolutely no one coming through bar Grant and fingers need to be pointed. How did we leave ourselves in such a mess? What was so wrong about Carr's interview.He mentioned the boys that were not commiting ,he talked about the boys that were in rehab and that there was going to be late decissions on a few players.Managers never go in to the nature of injuries.What is the problem?I fear there is an agenda among a certain cohort to undermine the regime.Maybe there are those that would want him to fail.To use a well worn phrase on this forum I hope I am wrong. gunman (Donegal) - Posts: 1056 - 28/01/2023 11:55:21 2454687 Link

Well we have to give the man a chance at least, he deserves that, not going to be easy with the changes in personnel, even our strongest team in recent years always looked a bit rudderless without Murphy to steady them. The other thing is though that this is the time for boys to step up and become men, Murphy and McGee are too massive figures gone from the dressing room, you fellas could be right and this could well be a disaster of a season but we will have to give this time and see what Paddy Carr can make of the hand he's been dealt, no matter who the new manager was this was always going to be a tough season with Michael gone; Some very tough games ahead in div 1 and the opposition will see us as one of the teams they are most likely to take points off, no getting around it we are not the team we were a few years ago, beat Kerry tomorrow and it might start changing a few opinions though. We have to give Paddy Carr a chance, and get behind him. He went for the job a few times for the right reasons, not for money or to further his career, but out of a genuine love for Donegal. I don't think it's an anti Paddy Carr thing. I think it's the whole debacle from the second Rory Kavanagh pulled out. The whole thing was rushed and has been a disaster after that. I think Paddy Carr will bear the brunt of it if Donegal don't deliver this year....which is wrong. The county board (most of whom are gone now) has set Donegal up to fail this year. It would be nothing new if we struggled in the league.We usually "stay up" or "go down" on the last day.We were relegated under McGuinness.Bonner was relegated in his first year 2018 and in 2019 div 2 we lost to Fermanagh and Tipperary but we won the Ulster Title in those 2 years.It would definitely be desirable to stay up with the new system in operation but Carr and his team will ultimately be judged on how they perform in the group stages of the Championship.I wouldn't be overly concerned about the Ulster Champioship either. gunman (Donegal) - Posts: 1056 - 28/01/2023 17:28:15 2454776 Link

The league for the next few years is going to be funny due to it being linked to Sam Maguire. It will negativly affect Ulster teams as its the hardest province to get to a final.... But the now departed County Board didn't want Kavanagh, and they dragged their feet with his appointment. They were very swift to include O'Rourke when the opportunity arose. He appears to have been high up in their priorities from the start, which is incredible considering every single viewpoint I have heard from his previous employers. Remember that Roscommon had him all but announced (along with Karl Lacey) before withdrawing the offer. So, I agree fully with the perceptive Kerryman in our midst.
