Initially, like a lot of Rossie fans on here, I was dismayed by the way the team performed on Saturday. After I reflected on it a bit more I started to consider what this loss must have felt like to all the players, the management team and all the people who have contributed so much of their time to help give us great days out supporting the team we love.

It's easy for us supporters to be hurlers on the ditch and vent our anger at how these games work out but we should go into work this morning as proud Rossies that we have such great people representing us. It takes a special talent and serious commitment over many years to be able to get to the level of playing for your county, these people should be admired and commented on, not criticised. I'd like to thank Anthony Cunningham a true gentleman who only has Roscommon football at heart for his commitment and dedication to the cause. I would also like to thank the rest of the management & backroom team for such efforts for the greater good of the team.

Finally the most important people the players, we are proud and honoured to have you represent the people of Roscommon on the national stage. These lads are 150% committed, giving up all their free time and making huge sacrifices in their personal lives to represent the county's colour.
Thank you, players, we Rossie supporters wish ye a great break and hope to see ye all in January when we will all join the Crusade together again.

I feel sorry for the players and management. They will be kicking themselves looking at that draw. A great chance to get to a semi. Clare will be delighted, best possible draw for them. I could be way off but Derry will find it difficult against a team with good forwards and point takers in Croker. If Clare don't have enough for them i would expect Galway or Armagh to beat them. I hope Clare bring that same belief they had in the last ten minutes against Roscommon to that game.

Not sure Nigel Dineen would be a good option. The game has moved on a lot from his time over the U21's. In saying that he'd have a good knowledge of the club scene and would put his heart and soul into it. Just watched the game again and it makes it all the more harder to take after seeing some of the mistakes and silly decisions made by us towards the end. Penalty was very soft too for Clare. In fairness to Daly I don't think he done a whole lot wrong. Ref was very quick to blow whistle when Clare player just went to ground. Also Davy Murray was unlucky to get done for over carrying. It looked like he was fouled but the sorest part was the ref bringing the free forward about 20 yards to make it a very scorable free from what was an impossible angle originally. Silly on Murray's part to throw ball away but one can only hope players will look back on this as a huge opportunity missed and maybe look to right a few wrongs next season. Best of luck to Clare against Derry in the QF's. Wouldn't it be great to see Colm Collins mastermind another famous victory for the Banner men.

A good servant to Roscommon but I would agree. That's nearly ten years now and he never pushed on to anything significant in management or coaching. The teams that do well have people who are very tuned into how the game is played and can raise standards in a set up. The more I think of it the more I would be in favour of bringing in a high level coach to assist AC, similar to what Donaghy, Cian O'Neill or Kieran Mc bring to their set ups. Donaghy and McDonnell were both very intelligent players and no doubt bring that through in coaching. Our yo yo status is probably not helped by how often we change manager.

They might be kicking themselves but from what i saw against both Clare and Galway we would not have beaten Derry with their defensive set up and counter attacking game.

I expect Derry to win comfortable as they won't allow Clare to score 2-15 or anything close to it.

Side note. howdareu is the Leitrim wum back with another new username can posters ignore instead of engaging with him.

I'd have no problem with Anthony staying on if he did bring win a couple of top coaches. You don't have to get rid of any of the backroom team just add a top class coach who is proven. Who are our best defenders/tacklers in the county? It's all about getting the balance right and unfortunately we never do. It's one extreme to the next which is so frustrating

True though the confidence winning that game against Clare would have brought plus I think Croke park would suit Roscommon much more than Derry. Anyways it's a moot point now.

On Clare v Derry. I think it's hard one to call. Both teams play very similar. Could be very low scoring. Clare only managing one point from play against Ros in the second half isn't great but I'm sure a shrewd man like Collins will be working on that.

Not an option. Went for the job when the joint management broke up in 2016 and he said never again with the way the county board dealt with him.

Anyway still remains to be seen if Cunningham steps aside or not. I suspect the county board will be hoping not as they'll have to go back to their long drawn-out process whereby it will be November or December before they appoint anyone and probably search up north for another prefered candidate and blame supporters when he says no to us.

If Cunningham stays its about added to the management team. I don't rate McGeeney or Joyce that highly but both have added to their management teams to bring their sides progress its taken Armagh 7 years to find the level they are currently at under McGeeney with a lot of disappointments along the way.

Clare got Derry. A missed chance last Saturday. I would have fancied our chances against Derry. While semi-final against Armagh/Galway would have been tough it was a chance to reach last four something we haven't done in quite a while.

Please point out any messages I have posted that suggest I am a WUM? I will await patiently as I haven't posted any. You need to stop name calling people. Its very immature and its a form of bullying.

Looking at the draw this morning realistically roscommon could have been in an all Ireland final. Must be very frustrating seeing that they had chances to win against clare and the draw was kind this morning. Would have missed all the big guys. Such a shame really.

Good draw on paper but we wouldn't have beaten Derry, let alone win a semi. They'd have far too much intensity for us and would have worn us down comfortably unfortunately. Armagh or Galway with their forwards on current form in Croke Park would be shooting 25+ points against our wide open defence, that's the harsh reality of it.

kentuckytucky was a previous username for howdareu. He seemed offended when i asked him was he banned with that last account his reply was he thought kentuckytucky was a stupid name.

Moving on or back to Saturdays match. It was a match to be honest that I was expecting Roscommon would win by 5 or 6 points and it was looking that way with 68 minutes on the clock until Roscommon gifted Clare a way back into the match with truly awful defending.

SmokieRoss and Longford fellow thought the cure to all of your woes would be cured by starting the Murtagh brothers, Conor Daly and using Donie Smith as impact sub, well that all happened on Saturday and still lost. I see smokie it blaming the county boards lack of facilities and players not physically or conditioned enough for the business end of the championship now and that is closer to the real issues than team selection.

Galway fellows on their thread didn't want to agree with my view that Galway system over player quality won the Connacht final for them. Clare certainly don't have better quality players than Roscommon but their system is much better. Derry system would be a Mis match against Roscommon.

If Roscommon was in hat it could have been a completely different draw and even if it was Derry and Roscommon lost narrowly they'd go away thinking they are better than they are while the glaring weakness of defence not addressed at all. Cunningham or whoever is manager next year has to work on the defence now or 2023 will be another championship write off.
