That is a serious Tyrone team and they were completely geared for an All Ireland. Just need to try and develop as many as possible from the Ros team. You can never take things for granted. We always said we were spoilt for forwards but losing C Murtagh and McKeon this year has left a big gap in our team.

Yes an excellent Tyrone U20 team even though they were matched in Ulster by Derry and Down. They were the strongest provincial champions by a distance. Roscommon were on a par with the other semi finalists. Roscommon v Meath or against Kerry would have been competitive. Roscommon U20s can be well pleased with their season and with their Connacht title. Already Seanan Lambe and Shane McGinley into the senior setup and hopefully a few more to follow over the next couple of years.

Few days out from playing the dubs and I don't think I have ever heard of so many people that would go to every game not going this weekend. Nobody even talking about the game it's unreal. I'm just hoping we put up a good performance Saturday evening. We aren't beating Dublin and that's just the way it is but I want to see a massive improvement from league and the mayo performance. If we do play well and run Dublin to within 5 points i think we can bring a good performance to the Hyde the following week. Hopefully we get some support up there. These lads deserve that. dave1988 (Roscommon) - Posts: 1165 - 21/05/2024 10:00:09 2546069 Link 0 |
With a game the following week in the Hyde coupled with poor form in the Spring, only the NFL regulars will be travelling. Hopefully a decent few Ros people living in and around Dublin will attend. What's Davy's plan I wonder? Go toe to toe ? Park the Bus to keep the score down? Field a weakened team and concentrate on the Mayo game? Or...??? It's awful going into a game with 'Damaged Limitations' in our minds, but it's hard know how else to approach it. Louth gave a great account of themselves against the Dubs, and they still managed to score 1-19 while kicking a lot of wides! I think we need to try and keep the scoring down, if we get a total hammering, how are we meant to then lift it again for Mayo the week after? I don't think we'll throw in the towel completely, we have too good footballers for that. Get a bit of momentum going and good spirits going for Mayo is the best we can hope for. I think he will go with similar team that started against mayo. We will try be competitive and keep score down. If we go toe to toe we will get hammered. We arent in form and not playing well all year so I think this is all about getting out of Dublin without being hammered and then having a proper go at mayo.

This group stage format doesn't have the interest of the "Super 8s" and I was happy to see that format scrapped I doubt the shelf life of this format will be long. The scheduling will be a big issue for Roscommon. Even if you say they run Dublin to within 5 points its' going to drain the energy levels and then 6/7 days later you have to face a rested Mayo, that's a far from ideal situation even for a side in decent form this year which isn't the case with Roscommon. Excuse the optimism, but am really looking forward to seeing Roscommon play in the All-Ireland series. Plenty of counties of out stature are nowhere near even these groups stages. Who knows, maybe we're just a few tweaks short of really exploding into form. Look at how things are turning around in other counties. Galway were woeful up until the last few minutes of the Sligo game, now they're flying it. Derry looked unstoppable in the league and now have a decimated panel and facing a possible third consecutive loss. Donegal were a joke 12 months ago. A win or two at this stage of the year could change the feeling of the whole season for Roscommon. And if not, a lot of positivity from the underage scene for the years ahead. There's another Connacht final to watch this Friday night against Mayo in the Hyde. Ros Comáin Abú. SpanishRossie (Roscommon) - Posts: 31 - 22/05/2024 10:43:05 2546322 Link 0 |
To beat the Dubs will need something radical. worple (Roscommon) - Posts: 351 - 22/05/2024 11:45:32 2546354 Link 0 |
This would only make sense if we're willing to leave two forwards up at all times. Otherwise it's just kicking possession away.

Will he start the 15 who finished v Mayo (if I recall correctly) Carroll, Gavin Stack Higgins N Daly Fallon McCormack O'Rourke Cunnane Enda Cregg Diarmuid Cox Fitzpatrick O'Carroll. Cunnane and Cox will hardly be starters. Ultan and Donie plus the other 13? Or will the older 5 be rested and only come on as subs? He didn't have a good day against Mayo. Wouldn't start him. We need some accurate shooting . It struck me watching the scoring in the Ulster Final which was excellent from both Armagh and Donegal, that Roscommon were woefully wasteful against Mayo. We need to be competitive on Saturday and we need to beat Mayo in The Hyde. We haven't done that in the championship for nigh on 23 years.

Just seen the team.. Robbie Dolan at 6?? He's a good footballer but he will get battered around the place at this level. He's not strong enough once he meets contact. I don't think Cox or Dolan will start also think Ruane hasn't played well in a long time but seems to get picked all the time. dave1988 (Roscommon) - Posts: 1165 - 23/05/2024 20:54:41 2546703 Link 0 |
Team named and as ever probably a few changes to the starting team before throw in. The_analyser (Roscommon) - Posts: 3926 - 23/05/2024 21:25:09 2546710 Link 0 |
Hard to know if that's a programme team or the squad submitted to HQ?? Conor Hand in the squad seems a surprise?,. Adam McDermott back in. Is Davy spreading the squad over the 2 games? Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 2021 - 24/05/2024 08:56:55 2546735 Link 0 |
