We beat Sligo away last year by 12 points and we didnt play well. Most would be of the opinion we have improved since last year,. Kildare are bang average and we have had the upper hand over them last few years in the league. We cant take them for granted but should be beating both lets not try pretend we shouldnt we finished third in D1. We could have got much harder groups. sourmilk93 (Roscommon) - Posts: 1206 - 04/05/2023 13:08:01 2475652 Link 0 |
Those Mayo and Tyrone teams was elite level in strength and conditioning. Remains to be seen where Roscommon are in that regard. In the Connacht final replay 2016, All Ireland quarter final 2017, super 8s a week after the round 4 tie they were a miles off it.

Assuming no Planning issues what are the chances we see it operating in 2025?

Brilliant news. Hopefully the public will see that serious progress is been made in developing the new Centre of Excellence and also developing Hyde Park. Maybe some of us should show our appreciation by buying an extra ticket in the Club Rossie draw if we can afford it. Well done to all involved in Club Rossie and the County Board for all their hard work over the last few years. We are after all, a small county with a relatively small playing population. Hopefully both major projects will keep advancing at pace with appropriate support from GAA headquarters and the Connacht Council. The Roscommon GAA supporters are fanatical but there is little industry in Roscommon and we can do with all the support we can get. Up the Rossies. letsgetgoing (Roscommon) - Posts: 728 - 04/05/2023 20:33:54 2475790 Link 1 |
We'll see how average Kildare are... Very little between Roscommon and Kildare, looking forward to what should be a very good game, plus the Glenn v Davy sideshow ...

Not sure where you're getting very little between Kildare and The Rossies from? Not from 2023 form. We'll see when ye play each other though.

Kildare finished in exactly the same position in D2 as Clare did last year …. They will look on this as a very favourable group with Roscommon and Sligo most likely. SouthsideRossie (Roscommon) - Posts: 89 - 05/05/2023 14:37:13 2475932 Link 1 |
Playing the national league and playing championship football on dry and hard pitches is a totally different ballgame. Dublin and Derry were both behind us in the league table and Roscommon would do well to beat either team. However we certainly have improved since last year and I think we should make the quarter finals and maybe even the semi final if we play to our potential. Davy Burke knows Kildare football inside out and will know the strengths and weaknesses of each player and who and how to target them. However Kildare were missing Jimmy Hyland and some other top players for the Dublin match and still got to within 2 points. The winner of the Roscommon v Kildare match will more than likely have home advantage to see who will progress to the quarter finals. It is a match that the Rossies must win. Ps: For old timers, it is hard to believe that it is 20 years ago since Frankie Dolan kicked 13 points against Kildare in Portlaoise and the Rossies won by a point. (1 sideline ball, 1 50, 7 frees, 4 from play - youtube for the winner) I would settle for a one point win against Kildare this time around also and for this team to make its own history) It should be a great game. letsgetgoing (Roscommon) - Posts: 728 - 05/05/2023 15:54:58 2475948 Link 0 |
Both played in Div 2 Roscommon finished 1st and Clare 5th and in the league match between each other it was a draw in Hyde Park. Kildare gave a very good account of themselves against Dublin last Sunday and in their two championship matches before that they took care of Wicklow comfortably and before that were looking on course to knocking Mayo out of the championship again and when they led 0-11 to 0-5 45 minutes played. Mayo scored 2-3 in the final 10 minutes for flattering win. Gaa_lover (USA) - Posts: 3609 - 05/05/2023 16:57:14 2475965 Link 0 |
We have and we've lost matches we should never have lost like Clare last year and Fermanagh in Enniskillen 2015 being just two that come to mind.

Well done the minors. Two wins on the bounce will be great for the confidence. Is it unusual that there doesn't seem to be any Clann or Brigids player's on the panel? MachaireConnacht (Roscommon) - Posts: 1000 - 05/05/2023 20:36:41 2475991 Link 0 |
Great win for the Roscommon minors tonight. They won 17 pts to 8 pts even though they had Niall Henaghan sent off after only 6 mins played in the second half, when the score was 13 -6. Very impressed with Sean McDonnell who was named played of the match. The midfielders Taylor & Higgins were totally on top for the entire match and they laid on a good platform for the six forwards who all scored. letsgetgoing (Roscommon) - Posts: 728 - 05/05/2023 20:37:31 2475992 Link 0 |
Very impressive team performance by our U17s in a sunny Markievicz Park tonight. 7 points up at half time should have been more as we missed three good goal chances. A few minutes into the 2nd half we lost Niall Heneghan to a straight red, the Sligo lad throwing himself to the ground with a push and Sligo management reaction influenced the ref on that decision I'd hope we have the sense to appeal it as from my view point it was nothing more than a yellow card offence. 4 and we drew in the league. Much larger gap this time around even if league form doesn't mean too much in the summer

Great performance by the minors last night. Good to turn the tables on Sligo who have had Roscommon's number at underage recently. I know we were beaten by 12 points by Mayo a few weeks ago but there are fine footballers on this Roscommon side. Great spread of clubs from around the county represented on the team. Nobody from Brigid's or Clann but two players from Shannon gaels. A special mention to Strokestown's Sean McDonnell. He was brilliant last night. As fine a display as I've seen from any player in the primrose and blue. It's all very hopeful because we were posting here about the demise of Roscommon underage football. The test though for this team will come in the semi final against Mayo. Can we turn around that 12 point deficit from just three weeks ago. A fine Galway team will await the winners in the Connacht Final. endgame (Roscommon) - Posts: 2402 - 06/05/2023 10:53:34 2476029 Link 0 |
