Remember we flew out of the traps was it in 16 and had some great wins over big Div 1 teams but it was clear Roscommon peaked early. Armagh did something similar last year in the league. Based on that, we probably would have the best chance of upsets in our initial games. Tyrone can be slow starters and we should have beaten them in the Hyde a few years ago in the league. Galway away won't be easy. Weather will also play a big part in the league games. Very hard to call. The first two home games will be very interesting. With Dublin gone I think Kerry is the only write off in the division now. No reason why we can't compete in every other game if we are well prepared. Will probably be Galway without Shane Walsh also as I'd expect Kilmacud to be in the club final on 21/22 Jan and I'd imagine he'll take a break after. Things might not be all rosey up there but if they get dragged into a relegation battle they will be hard bet in that game. Davy Burke led Maynooth college to the Div 1 league title tonight. A college that had never reached a league final before. The Walsh brothers Colin, Darragh played well for the winners. Charlie Carty also on the panel. Hard luck to Rossies involved with UCD Ben O'Carroll, Daire Cregg two starters who had some decent moment and Cathal Feely off the bench scored a good point. Good to see a good few Rossies doing well at 3rd level. The number of lads involved at 3rd level is a good guide to strength at County level. Just walking out of Kiltoom. Better side on the day won and All the best to Dunmore in the All-Ireland series. Still will be what ifs for Dominics. Had the match been rightly pushed back a week instead of the 6 day turnaround against a rested team and Dunmore played 20 minutes of that match with 14 men with the black and red. Tomas Gleeson given MOTM but for me the most outstanding player on the field was Keith Doyle and hopefully he can get injury free run and sees plenty of game time in Div 1. I'll watch the Junior final later but i see a 9 point beating for Ronans. Clearly a step up to what they faced this year but should still look to build on a year of progress. Disrespectful to the intermediate competition to rush it off in that manner and not give both finalists at least two weeks to prepare. A provincial final is likely the biggest match/occasion for many of these club players and why the rush when the All Ireland semi final isn't on until 5 weeks time? Commiserations to both clubs. Maybe a blessing in disguise for some of the county lads involved with Dominics and Strokestown. Although it's always nice to see Roscommon clubs do well it seemed like the long season took its toll on some of the Pearses and Faithleachs lads last year. Excellent article about Sean Mulryan in page 5 of the business section in today's Sunday Times. He is some man, and all I can say is that Roscommon GAA are very lucky to have such a generous main sponsor over so many years. He's done so much for Roscommon you'd fear where we'd be without his generosity. Especially in an era now where you need serious resources to compete at any level. After seeing Galways expenditure last year you would wonder how it's sustainable. I know they have hurling and football teams at senior level and the footballers got to an all Ireland but what happens this year when there is even more games in the football championship? Hard luck to st ronans and doms. Was at the ronans game and the game was over after 15 minutes. Clifden are a strong side and they were very accurate. Thought gary odaly played well for ronans considering he was being double marked for the entire game and the supply of ball he was getting was limited. I think he deserves a chance with the county. I could see why in 20 and 21 with Covid etc but there's a minimum €150k in membership fees easily available every year. Would pay a lot of bills.
