In Mayo you play 4 championship games (3 group and relegation semi final ) before you are in last chance saloon of a final relegation game. In Roscommon you can be in final relegation play off after 2 of your 3 group games. Hopefully that makes it clear.

That's incorrect in regards to Ballina. Should they avoid defeat this weekend they end up avoiding the relegation play-off's and have a championship with as Seanfan said just 3 games.

All that mattered to Ballina was defending their county title they won the last three years. Those hopes was up in smoke after 2 group championship games in the middle of August. A "farcical" situation as Tommyc would call it or simply the way it is and you get on with it as the alternative is more group games and more dead rubbers and meaningless games.
