Does anyone know what the latest news is on the club front regarding managers? Who is managing what club this year?

Would be good to see Daryl Finn (formerly of Monivea Abbey- transferred to caltra for personal reasons ) get a run in the dome. I believe he's been training bits and pieces with the dev panel. Daryl is around 30 now, you don't get too many chances at inter county!!

Mountbellew have narrowed it down to two, John Fleming and Jimmy Screene both in contention for Mountbellew this year. AGM next week to delegated one of them.

If the injury he received in game v MM turned out to be what it looked like, I would not expect him to be playing before the club championship at best. Hope I'm wrong.

Could be right thought they had gone with Ryan and screene.
Some exciting new managers at all levels this year bodes for great action in the club scene.

It wasn't the ACL anyway. Torn meniscus I believe. They said 4 months out last October which would have him back some time in February/March but given it'll take him time to get back up to speed I doubt he'll feature in the league.

Is that the same Jimmy Screene that propped for Buccaneers RFC back in the early 2000's ?

Any idea if PJ is going to focus on an outdoor challenge at the weekend or will he give the FBD a rattle in the Bubble on Friday night. Wouldn't be in his nature to concede any silverware to us Rossies.

He said after the Leitrim game that they would be sticking with the same panel for the FBD final anyway.

Seemingly they're using that development squad for all FBD games this year alright.
Not sure if they have an outdoor challenge lined up or not this weekend but I'd imagine they do.
I heard Davy Burke on the radio saying that Ros aren't playing challenges - he's using the FBD for that purpose so Ros will have a strong side out anyway.

I can assure you that Galway have no interest at all in what Roscommon do. I saw someone refer here recently to a "rivalry" between the counties. The reality is we operate in different stratospheres and what Roscommon do simply is not relevant to us.

I suppose it's two different approaches to the FBD with Galway and Roscommon. We're trying this development squad concept, with its own sideline and some great mentors there. I think it's a brilliant development and should help raise the bar over a bit of time in the Galway ranks. Roscommon are using this as a full league warmup with most of the big names available, so I'd strongly expect ye to close this one out but the Galway dev lads won't want to lie down to anyone so hoping we get a competitive game.
Also, I see some earlier moaning comments from other posters here about playing in the Dome - I think it's absolutely superb, the players love it, supporters that went there loved it, a brilliant night out in what is still the largest sports air dome in the world! Why in the hell wouldn't we use it in the depths of winter instead of carving up pitches or playing on Astro anyway but outdoors in the elements where you won't get families and other supporters standing out in the cold and wind and rain. Kudos to the dome. At a relatively low €3M build cost, Galway needs one too!

Nonsense. Roscommon are very relevant in terms of recent Galway football history. They've beaten us in Connacht finals and the Division 2 league final. They're a side well capable of beating us on any given day and have proven it plenty times.
They produce strong clubs sides (much stronger than Mayo's in recent years), who have given our best their fill of it.
It's up to us to show we're in a different stratosphere. We haven't done it yet.

Yes I think its a good approach and if unearths a few players for league champo all the better. Who is part of mgmt team for the dec squad & the mentors? Looking forward to watching it on tg4 Fri evening

Fully agree. I also think that it would be prudent to field a mixed team in the FBD final i.e. a hybrid of first teamers and A-listers. The reasons for this are:

1. Out of respect for the competition
2. Out of respect for the opposition
3. To avoid an embarrassing defeat
4. To be fair to the guys that are developing ( I dont think it's fair to judge players if they are playing on a team that are getting beaten all over the pitch)
